Boxing, Yoga And The Hula

December 14th, 2012

Veteran Tampa Tribune scribe Woody Cummings has uncovered that Michael Bennett is sending messages via hula dance. Rather than pull a pineapple from his pants after a sack, Bennett decided that a quick hula following one of his two sacks Sunday against Philadephia was the best way to help him get a ticket to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl.

Bennett told Cummings he deserves to be mentioned among the elite defensive ends and offseason work helped him get there.

“I worked on a lot of little things,” Bennett said. “I did a lot of yoga and some boxing to help get a little leaner and just worked on my pass rush skills a lot, anything to get that extra edge.”

Pro Bowl voting ends Monday for fans, and players and coaches vote next week. It’s one of the NFL’s stupidest policies, to have the Pro Bowl chosen with two games remaining.

Joe doubts Bennett will make it, unless he can crank out another big game Sunday in New Orleans. There’s so much political BS and popularity-contest nonsense associated with a Pro Bowl nod, Joe doubts Bennett has caught enough attention — even with the dance.

I sure hope we can afford to keep him.

The value of having Bennett, Clayborn and Bowers fully healthy next year can’t be under-estimated.

Offer him no more than $3.3 Milli per year. Afraid of his ability to stay healthy

  3. PRBucFan Says:

I think next year Bennet will have a defensive MVP type year.
Bold statement I know, but it’s my feeling.

  4. SilenceTheCritics Says:

I really wish they would sign him now because his value is just going to keep going up. If we continue to wait somebody is going to offer him a large sum of money and I just dont think we will match it even though we have the cap space.

woops…please disregard my previous comment….I was talking about Roy Miller

  6. PRBucFan Says:

Worst mistake in the world to let him test FA. How many years did we draft DE??? Finally we have a monster in his prime only to misout on him??? It would be one of the biggest mistakes in the rockstars career.

  7. SilenceTheCritics Says:

Exactly PR. Would be a major mistake.

Quit worrying about awards and Pro Bowl and win some damn games. Schiano has preached team since Day 1 and here we have players thinking about Hawaii. If you don’t make the playoffs and have a winning team, you don’t deserve any recognition. I don’t care if your name is Manning, Brady or Brees. Work harder, do your job, and win for your team.

  9. BigMacAttack Says:

This team has vastly improved, but they have left several wins on the table. It isn’t good enough and I’m tired of watching our team lose games that they should be winning. It’s everybody’s fault from top to bottom.

    Joe,

I was looking for the Pro Bowl voting link in the article!

Bennett plays like he loves the game of football. I rarely see him slacking in the hustle department and he stays on the field the majority of the time. These are the reasons that I think he deserves the big contract. Just think if his brother put in the same work ethic as TE for the G-Men… I was also glad to see that the Bucs had a mostly all-DE rush attack (ala Nascar Pkg; NYG). Made me think what next year could be like with Bowers and Clayborne back in the lineup.

I would of been nice to have Bennett’s Brother at TE at least we would have a big TE who can catch the ball. Luke I hope he can just improve as a blocker so we can use him mainly for running plays, because I’m afraid he isn’t going to be a good receiving TE.

  12. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

I don’t see anyone on the Bucs going to Hawaii except Lavonte David, maybe.

As far as TE’s, keep what we have for now but keep a close eye on freshman Colt Lyerla at Oregon. He just might be the best there ever was and Belicheat has probably got his cell phone number already.
