“Especially On The Back End”

December 9th, 2012

Bucs icon Ronde Barber was not a happy man after the humiliating loss to the heinous Eagles today.

Interestingly, Barber said the Bucs don’t have what it takes in the secondary. That’s no surprise, but it was surprising to hear from Barber.

“Guys gotta step up and do their jobs better than the guys across from you. To be very frank we haven’t done that. You want to hear reasons for it? I don’t care to get into them. We’re not good enough right now, especially on the back end, to win games like this,” Barber said.

Perhaps Barber was flashing some bitterness toward Eric Wright and Aqib Talib? That’s just Joe speculating.

Barber went on to cite lapses in coverage in the secondary and said the Bucs were outplayed by a rookie quarterback.

Joe hopes this losing streak isn’t helping push Barber toward retirement.

I feel bad for Barber. Truth is, even if we draft a couple corners in the Draft, there wont be a significant improvement next year. It may take a few years. Rookie corners lighting up the NFL is extremely rare. The best we can hope for is that Barber sticks around for 1 more year and grooms his replacement. Whoever that might be.

I am sorry joe I am not impressed with barron wish we could have taken Claiborne he has helped the cowboys pass defense instanly

The $19 Million we have in Salary Cap Room could have gotten us some quality depth (yes, the Cap Room has increased)

I have a feeling 1 will be drafted and 1 will come via Free Agency. That moves BIggers or Johnson or Gaitor to the nickel. Any of them could be decent there. I think Gaitor has alot of potential.

Anyway,it is what it is, this team is growing as an offense, a coaching staff, and have a bunch of injuries to big time players. PLUS, the CBs are what they are… off the street

    Joe here,

@Ian’sGayLisp — Keep in mind we inexplicably cut Brandon McDonald, a veteran cornerback who played reasonably well for us.

  6. Dave Says:

Claiborne has not been as good as you think and Barron has not been as bad as you think.
The issue is CBs and pass rush. Better play from those spots and the Bucs safeties are absolutely set for the next few years with Barron and Barber and Black (who steps in when Barber retires). But don’t blame the safeties on bad CB play.

  7. Traew Says:

Joe you are such a Bucs homer. It annoys me to no end how you refer to Dominik as a rock star, when he has proven to be an abysmal GM. The reason our defense is dead last against the pass, and below average rookie quarterbacks like Nick Foles throw for close to 400 yards playing without his best receiver, his best running back, and behind the league’s worst offensive line, is because Mr. Rock Star added a single mediocre free agent in Wright, traded down for a bust safety, and got lucky to find David…..after we had the worst defense in franchise history.

Dominik sucks as a GM. And he has his work cut out for him this offseason.

He is a karaoke star at best.

  8. BucFan20 Says:

I think Ronde is finished after this season. I just can’t imagine how he feels about this. Eagles get last laugh!

  9. Ian's Gay Lisp & Ron's Drinking Problem Says:

i don’t see how Leonard Johnson can make it in the NFL….he has 28inch arms…thats the shortest arm length i’ve even seen measured in the NFL…..Anthony Gaitor has 30 inch arms which is also ridiculous….these guys have zero room for error and no chance against bigger WR’s

  10. stimpy Says:

Did anybody see his face during the game? Wow…it said it all.

  11. Macabee Says:

A good football team with not enough good players. The not enough is in the secondary. This will get fixed! Just not this year!

  12. canadianbuc Says:

I could be off a dead wrong but i don’t no but i kinda have the feeling that Ronde may not like Schiano………..Probably not true but this video kinda gives me the vibe they may not have a great relationship

Crammer was horruble in that post my bad

  14. canadianbuc Says:

    *horrible

  15. Macabee Says:

When Ronde was asked what he thought about the the secondary’s execution today. Ronde said he was all for it! (channeling John McKay)

  16. Andrew Says:

    @ canadianbu

I could see where you could say that. when Schiano name was brought up he didn’t seem to enthusiastic. but i think the important thing to remember is that if they can put their feelings about each other aside and be professional enough to work with each to try to achieve a common goal then it really doesn’t matter if there best buddies. as long as they get the job done together then that’s all that matters.

  17. Weber_7 Says:

Why did we trade Talib, and why didnt we sign Routt??!! I dont care what anyone says, our secondary would be 10x better with both! If the Texans could use Routt, we definately could of used him!!

  18. traew is stupid Says:

how can you possibly say Barron is a bust stupidest post ever made

  19. patrickbucs Says:

Our secondary sucks period. Our defensive line QB pressure sucks for the most part as well. Our play calling isn’t much better. Ronde was beaten for a touchdown up by 5 on a brutal all out blitz call on their final drive.. turns out it would have been potentially better for us if Cooper scores there was plenty of time to put a game winning drive together. That’s another subject for another day.

  20. KT Says:

I said it before and I will say it again. The arrogance of this regime to believe that this secondary is adequate in a passing league is beyond belief. To not address the cb position as soon as Talib was released was unacceptable, and leaving untested 4th-7th rnd rookies or even worse undrafted rookies against the j maclin’s and roddy white’s of the world is ridiculous. You don’t want to get routt fine, but you best to have an answer when you let Talib go for next to nothing. The “rock star” had squanderd away a good playoff chance in his effort to be cheap or as they call it “go young”. The games I have seen in the past 4 weeks since wright was out have been unbearable to watch, and now we get Brees again. More embarrassment!

  21. TONY850 Says:

the corners are horrible. Johnson was all hyped up in the beginning but has progressively gotten worse, he is a two year project back-up, I’ve seen enough of him. I don’t mind starting 3 rookies in the secondary but for two of them to be undrafted fill-in players is making this team look worse and worse against the pass.

Why would anyone run the ball against us when their QB can pick apart the secondary with ease one of them is bound to get beat and you tire our the d-line with them pass rushing every play.

  22. bucobruce Says:

Worst FU__ING corners I have ever seen on any team.As far as next year goes when our three probowlers return and we get some NFL caliber corners we will be dominant ,just wait Buc fans we will be awsome next year and Super Bowl bound.

  23. Andrew Says:

yes secondary sucks, and yet we play a sh i t ton of man with a single high safety. why? thats just asking for it.

  24. J-VillesBuc84 Says:

I have to agree there 3rd down play calling isn’t good. I did like at the begining we just used the front 4 to get after the QB. That’s what we need is a D-line who can pressure the QB with no help. If we had Clayborn with the D-line our pressure might be better, but we all know are CBs suck. Johnson, Biggers, L.Lewis, M. Lewis, and Gaitor. Wright and Talib weren’t all that great either. Atleast with Talib gone and Wright either being cut at the end of the year, traded, or having his contract change were not over paying for mediocre CBs. Just get rid of the whole bunch. Definitly will see us taking 2 CBs in the first two rounds of the draft and 1 in free agency if Wright’s doesn’t stay with the team. Mabey MarkDominik will move back i the 1st round to give us better chances of one of them being a good cornerback in this league.

  25. Mark Says:

No more Eagles at Bucs games for me. Most Eagles fans are absolute a-holes. It’s alright to cheer for your team when they do something well on the field. It makes you look like a-holes when you trash talk the Bucs in OUR stadium through the whole game. And they wonder why they are called the most hated fans in the NFL.

  26. Patrick Says:

Barber’s is without a doubt sick of all the losing seasons.

  27. MTM Says:

Rhonde is done after this year. They are not a year away at this rate. Yeh the CB play is bad but can the D-line put some pressure on the QB. There is some shared blame. The Bucs defense needs some nasty players. They just don’t get after it like a JJ Watts, Suh, Fairly types.

  28. Reality Check Says:

Letting the Eagles fans drive you out of going to games on your home turf. Way to be a fan Mark.
