“Foles Is Just As Good As Vick”

December 8th, 2012

Say what you want about Michael Vick, but the guy has played in a couple of playoff games, even once beat the mighty Green Bay Packers in a January game at Lambeau Field, a rare feat.

So when Joe got a chance to speak with Bucs defensive end Da’Quan Bowers earlier this week, Joe did a double-take when Bowers waxed poetic about Eagles quarterback Nick Foles, a rookie from Arizona, who has supplanted Vick as the Eagles signal-caller.

“Noles is just as good as Vick is,” Bowers said without blinking. “He doesn’t have the footspeed Vick has but throwing-wise, and mechanics-wise, he is just as good as Vick. He presents a challenge.

“We will have to bring our A-game.”

It is hard to believe Bowers would say this about a rookie. But Bowers explained to Joe that Foles isn’t playing like a rookie, thus he should be respected.

“That rookie is like a second- or third-year player in the NFL,” Bowers said. “He’s starting for a reason.”

I’m not sure any QB is playing as badly as Foles. His 6.0 yds/att is not gonna help them as the Bucs will shut down the run.

  2. Macabee Says:

Stat-wise you’re right HAND. But any team that can hang 33 points on the Dallas defense, need to be played as Bowers says, with your A game!

  3. Bucnjim Says:

I like the way Shiano approaches other opponents. Too many times in the past the Bucs have made rookie & second string QB’s look like Peyton Manning. Players are in this league for a reason and EVERYONE needs to be taken seriously. When they’re not; that’s when lose games you should dominate.

  4. Justin Says:

    Did Bowers call him Noles?

  5. Pete 422 Says:

Foles or Noles, it doesn’t matter. Bucnjim is right. Every opponent has to be taken seriously and considered your toughest challenge to date. Such an approach will help you bringing your A game each and every week. No team should be taken lightly.

  6. Pete 422 Says:

Oh and as an observer, it isn’t that difficult to be a better passer than Vick.

  7. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Any Bucs homer who believes this game is gonna be a cake-walk is probably going to be surprised. This Eagles team, with a rookie QB, scored 33 points on a Dallas defense that the Bucs themselves only scored 10 points on. That team is not hanging it up for the season like the Raheem-era Bucs did last year. Far from it. Now that there’s a rookie QB in place and so many changes happening, the players realize they’ll be auditioning for their job in these last 4 games. Expect a closer game than many homers are predicting.

We are going to need: sapp, lynch, and Brooks suit up this weekend.

We need to bring the heat against the birdies.

  9. Snook Says:

Bowers isn’t complimenting Files. He’s just insulting Vick.

I agree with most of the comments..

off topic. Im watching the earl campbell special on nbc lastnite and for some odd reason I think LGB..I have faith in the NSO, coach has made some great moves but he’s doing Blount a injustice. I rather see him traded if we’re not going to utilize his talents. LGB could be mention in the same sentence with earl if we get him to the second level and stop bein so predictable when he’s on the field. It also hurted to Know Tampa traded down and let the oilers get our number one pick to acquire campbell. We let Campbell get away and Gave Bo Jackson up. Imagine if we didnt botch that up. Fastfwd

Dunn & A-train can never be over looked so dont start with the arguments homies.. We gave up Thomas Jones who played for yrs after he left the bucs. We settled with
pittman! We ran caddy to death just like we doing dougie schiano is gonna regret it just like Gru did. Lets get LGB going please Coach. Beside brandon jacobs who is most feared! Okay maybe a.p. or mjd. The point is, we got a diamond in the treasure chest when he needs playing time to shine! A 250lb back with speed power..Somebody name a back in tbe league right now that can match blount’s positive physical attributes. I admit LG has no burst no vision no playtime either. He can catch and he can block on pass plays. I seen him blocking swell last game.

  11. Pete 422 Says:

@ SacBucs, It seems that LGB has to learn how to run from hand off exchange into the hole. Don’t think the NSO wants to perform on the job training at any point in the season.

The Bucs do need a complimentary back moving forward.

    Hi Joe,

  13. Stanglassman Says:

How is drafting Bo Jackson with your 1st rd pick only to have him choose not to sign with the Bucs to play baseball giving up on him?

  14. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

@Pete 420, Freeman said that fumble was his fault. The running back should be looking forward towards the hole, the QB’s job is to look at the RB and place it correctly.

    @Stanglassman

Bo Jackson did not simply choose baseball. The Buc’s #1 draft pick was ferried to Tampa and back on the Culverhouse’s private plane. When he was in Tampa, he met with several active players who told him in no uncertain terms that Culverhouse was an asshole and Tampa was his plantation.

When they returned Jackson back to school, they notified the NCAA that Jackson had broken a rule by accepting that flight. The NCAA then declared him ineligible to play baseball in his last year.

The Bucs thought they had forced his hand towards football, they underestimated Bo Jackson’s sense of pride and dignity. He chose baseball.

Culverhouse probably jumped for joy because he didn’t have to pay the #1 draft pick, so Hugh pocketed that cash himself.

  15. SacBucs Says:

Thanks for lacing my shoes up miguel…(means thanks for giving me some inside on bo) ebonics..learn about it!

  16. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

You’re very welcome SacBucs, I see you’ve upgraded, 60 year old white guys have no point of reference when you speak Ebonics. We’re willing to learn though.

Maybe, it will help make some sense about what comes out of the White House.

  17. Have A Nice Day Says:

@Migeul – Your idea of “Hugh pocketed that cash himself” is completely ridiculous and you know it. Money doesn’t work that way.
