Eric Wright Infers He’s Good With The NFL

November 21st, 2012

Wright says he doesn’t know why he might miss any games this season

In a short, brief exchange with reporters this afternoon, Bucs cornerback Eric Wright sure seemed to infer that he would not be suspended — at least not until the 2012 season is completed.

Recently, NFL insider Jay Glazer reported Wright was popped for using Adderall, a banned substance under the current collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the NFLPA. To date, no one within the walls of One Buc Palace has suggested the report was inaccurate (to be fair, the team nor any representatives confirmed the report either; they offered no comment instead).

Here is the conversation that took place with Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, Wright and a Bucs media relations staffer.

Cummings (to Wright): You going to be around the rest of the year here, playing football?

Wright (looking surprised): I don’t know why I wouldn’t be (laughed)?

Bucs media relations staffer (trying to change subject matter): Anything else?

Cummings: Well, there was a report a month ago it seems…

Bucs media relations staffer: That’s been addressed.

Cummings, to Wright: Has it been addressed? Is it a done deal?

Wright: It’s been addressed a long time ago.

Cummings: There’s no fear of you…

Bucs media relations staffer: That’s it.

Cummings: … of you being suspended or anything, is that the case?

Bucs media relations staffer: We’re done here.

And so Wright’s access to the local pen and mic club this afternoon was complete. Joe even honestly tried to ask Wright about Matty Ice and Joe was politely informed the interview was finished for the day.

Let Joe be crystal clear: There was no animosity, yelling, screaming, nothing. Cummings was professional. The Bucs media staffer was professional and doing his job (which Joe had no issue with), and Wright was polite and seemingly honest. Every word you read above was done on a professional, rational manner.

So it seems Wright is in the clear with NFL warden commissioner Roger Goodell, at least for this season.

Now, if he could only be good at playing cornerback in the NFL.

  2. Tuggz Says:

Professional, eh? No “****ing don’t talk to me, alright! KNOCK IT OFF!” à la Ryan Leaf?

  3. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

After the Shaun King article, people seriously asked why he simply can’t get on board.

[Joe meant what he wrote: professional. Joe was there; you were not. Don’t try to twist Joe’s words. — Joe.]

    You imply, I infer…..

  5. Fritz50 Says:

Well, I ‘spose they could just be meaning ‘as of now’ , even if they expect the hammer to fall, eventually. Their right, as far as I’m concerned.

guess the Achilles injury wasn’t dramatic enough to ask about..

    *facepalm*

He’s got a condition. He doesn’t want to admit it to the public. He tested positive before filing the proper paperwork with the league. The league notified him of his test. His doctor said this man needs his meds. This probably happened around the time of his absence at training camp. Hence, this could just be a forgotten procedure to notify the league, only to be excused by his supposed condition. Eric Wright just wants his privacy. That’s my guess of the matter.

What a confusing situation. But if it’s done its done and if they don’t wantto talk about it then I guess no one can twist their arms.

    @DCBUCSFAN
You got a good laugh out of me and I agree. I just hope his performance is due more to nagging injuries than actual talent. With him out of the game there is no noticeable difference in pass defense.

I just declared that Sundays game will be televised, I believe I’m the first in the world to do so! Toot Toot! I could be wrong but I’ve been counting dots on Ticketmaster all day. Less than 1300 seats were available on the Upper Deck of the Visitors side at 3:45. So I’ve declared it an 85% showing tommorrow. I’ve been bloggin about it today at my blog. If you care to read my numbers just search Bucs Falcons Blackout and Chevy, that’s cause my blogs name is the Chevy Volt Blog. GO BUCS!!! GO JOE!!

  10. BigMacAttack Says:

Maybe the Bucs internally suspended him without telling the media.

The art of suspending without suspending.

Just joking around, not serious, unbunch panties.

    God I hate the Media…

They are the Biggest Liars in the world.

When was the last time you read a Report on a REPORTER getting a DUI? Or how about using Pain Pills Illegally? Or ANYTHING?

Funny how no one holds these reporters to the SAME STANDARD they hold athletes to?

Yet which is more important to a Free Society?
    Athletes or Reporters???

  12. Papawill13 Says:

Also notice what Reported and the Media do to people who had enough of their BS LIES, like Bart Scot?

    They attack and lie.

  13. Bayfisher Says:

Is the local media afraid of losing credentials or what? Do they leave questions like this unanswered in other cities. Where is the actual story?

  14. JohnBucsFan! Says:

To Papa Will I can think of 3 off the top of my head.. Bob Hites DUI, Dennis what’s his name the weather guy on ABC Phillips, he was involved in a gambling ring, they had video of him on NBC being taken away in handcuffs. And Chris Hanson, the pedofile buster on NBC. He was busted cheating on his wife with a woman 20 years younger. When something bad happens to TV people it’s news. People just don’t care about print journalists enough to even care much. Probably why Hunter S Thompson mainly stayed a writer! HA

By the way I declared Sundays game will be on TV.. I’m the first to do so! read about it on my blog.. Click my Name Above! GO BUCS!!!

  16. BamBamBuc Says:

Why the big push for answers, the matter was addressed at the halfway point of that conversation. If it’s been addressed, if the matter is done, then why dig further? Do they (or we) really need to know “how” it was addressed? Why do we need to know? I don’t need to know any more than it’s been dealt with and he’ll be playing the rest of the year. If only people took as much interest in what our own government does behind closed doors in secrecy as what our celebrities and athletes do, maybe we wouldn’t have a recession and blackouts to deal with….

  17. JohnBucsFan! Says:

I think the reason Wright is in the clear and Talib got suspended is because they saw Talib as the bad kid and wright as the new kid. He took advice from Talib to take the pills. The NFL knows the Bucs need all the help they can right now to win games and get fans back into the stands. Not only does it look bad for the Bucs that we can’t sell out games but It looks bad for the NFL to not have games on TV’s in local markets. This decision to not suspend wright was more about business than doing the right thing. I forgot to add John thinks every few sentences.. sorry

    Papa:

    God I hate the Media…

They are the Biggest Liars in the world.

When was the last time you read a Report on a REPORTER getting a DUI? Or how about using Pain Pills Illegally? Or ANYTHING?

Joe was going to leave this alone becauxe it has nothing to do with Wright, but it is such an ignorant, ill-informed comment Joe couldn’t leave it alone.

Good Lord, Chris Thomas was fired over a DUI (happened to have hit a Bucs cheerleader BTW). Nancy Alexander is another one who got front page news for her DUI, then a reporter at FOX 13, and later lost her gig. Joe can’t remember the name of the chick from the St. Pete Times who was fired for commenting on the paper’s site under a fake name posting rude and vulgar remarks about Rhonda Storms.

Todd Wright (not a reporter) got popped for a DUI and made headlines as did the longest-tenured Bucs beat writer made front page news with his DUI.

Hell, a former executive editor of the Tribune got popped for a DUI and she wasn’t employed much longer after that.

To imply “reporters” are liars, you are lumping Joe in that boat. Joe doesn’t care for that.

It really helps sometimes to think before you type.

If you hate “the media” so much that tells Joe you hate this site as well. Maybe you shouldn’t be reading Joe’s stories?

The reason I come here, is because this is a perfect model for sports reporting. This is the only place I read Bucs info (other than Box Scores). To be fair, this a comment section on a blog. I post whatever I feel, I am not trying to be a writer. My point is, at least 85% of all reporters and media are Biased, so in reality they are Liars. They do so with intent.

The entire World took the word of a Reporter with Zero proof. Why? It is because for some reason they are trusted. Most people not in your world, cannot name reporters that have had intense and prolonged media attention to their wrong doings.

Does anyone remember the reporter(s) who said Warren Sapp failed like 17 drug tests at Miami? 12 for weed and 5 for coke? But we remember that is how he became a Buc.

But whatever, I do understand. I dont really read after I post but I thought I had to say something, I am done. But if you dont want me around, that is cool.

  21. Pete Dutcher Says:

My post disappeared AFTER it posted. Interesting.

  22. Pete Dutcher Says:

To sum it up, I didn’t see Freeman “infer” a thing.
