Bucs Add A Defensive Tackle

November 17th, 2012

The Bucs, not satisfied standing pat, decided to try to beef up their interior defensive line as they signed Matthew Masifilo to the 53-man roster today.

Previously, Masifilo was on San Francisco’s practice squad. He was signed by the Niners as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford this spring. He has been on the Niners practice squad all season.

In the preseason, Masifilo had seven tackles and a fumble recovery.

    DE Markus White was released.

  2. FLBoyInDallas Says:

He actually played both DT and DE for Stanford, so he’s versatile.

I’m sorry, but when the only photo available for a NFL player is his yearbook photo (not sure if that was college or high school)…..I’m not impressed. If he can come off the bench and close up the middle of the run defense better than he can close the collar of his shirt, I’ll start being impressed.

  4. Jason A Says:

So you’re telling me we cannot find any decent corners out there?

  5. Pete Dutcher Says:

I think there are only untested guys out there and the Bucs are already trying out someguys.

But you know Dominick…he focuses on one unit at a time. This is a good move…we’ll have to wait a d see how he does. Wondering why they went with a DT. Is someone playing injured?

  6. Pete 422 Says:

Hopefully another Donald Penn like Practice squad steal.

  7. SebringSmitty Says:

That picture makes him look like Josh Freemans brother…..

  8. Jessup Says:

He was converted to an offensive lineman by the 49ers. We could turn him back into a DT, but he was likely brought in to be an OG.

  9. Capt. Jean Lafitte Says:

We’ll see, you know? Here today gone tomorrow. Like Coach Schiano said, It’s an evolving process, things are constantly changing.

    What?

Keep bringing them in. Can’t wait to find the next Leonard Johnson.

    “What?”

I read that at first and said the same thing. Then I scrolled
Back up to the pic and was like “holy crap!” He looks like josh freeman with diabetes!

Joseph is very happy about this move.

I doubt Jim Harbaugh is happy though.

We just stole a nice piece.

The 49ers are aruguably the best team in football. Deep on D.

And we just took a piece of their ‘future.’

I hope Masofilo is happy to come to Tampa. He might be bummed to leave his familiarity with Coach Harbaugh though both from Stanford and San Fran.

Welcome to Tampa bro! We need HELP on the D-line and fast!

  14. Macabee Says:

I don’t know Masifilo, but Dominik has been pretty good at raiding practice squads late in the season, so he may be OK. I think White has now broken Gilberry’s on-again off-again record!

  15. Matt D Says:

How does one look like they have diabetes?

Hopefully this guy can make more of an impact than Markus White. Didn’t they sign and release him a few times? Maybe I’m mistaken.

  16. Miguel El Magnifico Says:

“How does one look like they have diabetes?”

They have sores on their legs and feet.

  17. Matt D Says:

So you can tell that by seeing his face?
