Adam Schein And The Bucs

November 14th, 2012

OK Bucs fans, Joe’s hoping you are somewhat awake and have had your requisite morning caffeine. Please put down all liquid containers before you read the next sentence.

Adam Schein gave Bucs coach Greg Schiano a virtual wet kiss on NFL.com yesterday.

In a laudatory piece by the popular sports radio personality, Schiano stops just short of calling the Bucs a model franchise in the NFL and suggests that because of the success of Schiano, NFL front offices are already scouring the college ranks, hunting for the next Schiano to turn around their program.

The Bucs are back. Tampa Bay has scored 28 points or more in five consecutive games for the first time in franchise history. The Buccaneers punished the San Diego Chargers last Sunday on offense, defense and special teams en route to their fifth win of the season. The 5-4 Bucs are dangerous and very much in the mix for an NFC wild-card berth.

Schiano’s fingerprints are all over the turnaround.

Last year, the Bucs quit on Raheem Morris in embarrassing fashion, and the overwhelmed former “coach” couldn’t stop the bleeding. The 2012 version of the Bucs, meanwhile, is the NFL’s most improved squad on offense (the team’s points-per-game average jumped from 17.9 in 2011 to a whopping 28.9) and defense (opponents averaged an unacceptable 30.9 per game in 2011; that number is now down to 23.2, or about a touchdown’s worth).

While all of this is great, it still rankles Joe to remember how the Bucs gave away games to the Giants and Saints, and they had a win against the Redskins in their grasps.

The Bucs could have very easily been 8-1 and tied for first place in the NFC South. Damnit.

But still, Joe is counting his blessings. Look, the Bucs should beat Carolina this weekend and that means the Bucs will be 6-4 entering Thanksgiving Weekend. No one, not even the most drunken of fans in a bar, would have predicted that before the season.

Does all the credit go to Schiano for the turnaround? No, but you are damned straight most of it should.

I am thankful for the Bucs having an exciting team to watch on Sundays.

The message boards and comment sections went from pessimistic haters to actual cheering and screaming for their team. (Yes, all that can be deduced from other people typing)

Its finally fun to watch the Bucs since, well, since Jon Gruden.

  2. SombreoBro Says:

I love what the team is doing and yes, we “should” beat Carolina, but this game is making me a little nervous. Buc history shows that we may give the game away. I think if we go into Carolina and win decidedly, we have truly turned the corner.
    Go Bucs!

  3. Santos Says:

im with the whole we should win this game, but it does scare me a bit, but knowing that schiano has these guys focused on the task at hand eases my nerves some…lets go Bucs!!!

  4. tampabaybucfan Says:

Schiano has the courage to get rid of good players with bad habits & attitudes.
That makes him a true leader. That coupled with a good draft and suprisingly good assistants have made the Bucs a team on the rise.
A team is lucky if they only have one weakness to repair (secondary) we’ll take care of that next year.
There is one thing worse than losing games…..losing hope….and Coach Schiano has solved that problem.

Schein cannot pronounce English Words properly….and does anyone think that CLOWN has EVER played a sport….????????

Picturing you write this and immediately slamming your first on a desk cracked me up. Thank you, good start to my day.

Imagine the possibilities with a healthy squad and some DB help via the 2013 draft….

Schiano said that or Schein said that? Very confusing having both of those guys in the same article lol

Have a Nice day beat me to it. lol

    I assume Schein said it.

Just a reminder, you can be pretty sure the Giants thought they should be able to beat Cincinnati last Sunday too. Horrible mindset going into a game.

  11. Buc Fan #238 Says:

Pete’s pissed that he came in second on the grammar police challenge.

  12. TBSwarm Says:

God, I remember just praying to get a first down in some games but if we didn’t I knew the defense would get us of of a jam.

Now it’s the other way around! However, the last few weeks the defense has come up with some really nice plays at the end to finish the game.

  13. Justin Says:

Schein is a straight up tool. Just a couple of weeks ago he said he would take Christian Ponder over Josh Freeman.

  14. rhenry Says:

A real coaching staff makes all the difference in the world. Morris “not his fault” did not have a clue. As for Carolina, lets not jump the gun Joe, smells like a trap game to me.

  15. JonBuc Says:

Carolina game will be tough…make no mistake about it. Hope has been restored however….making this an exciting season to watch unfold.

  16. astrobuc Says:

If we only had ponder, we would have ourselves a dynasty.

  17. buccanr1 Says:

Thats exactly the record I had for the bucs. I guess I was drunk.
I called the washington, SD, and NO games wong but overall I was at 6-4.

  18. J 2.0 Says:

Ruxin is right. Schiano has impressed me this year alot, but most notably in the sense that he can recognize “Buccaneer Men” regardless of their talent. Also, a true leader will surround himself with great assistants. Let’s not confuse this offensive output with Schiano’s coaching. He has changed the mindset of our team, which will result in improved offensive output, but surrounding himself with Sullivan should also be considered.

On the Panthers game, the Bucs shouldn’t take them lightly. As far as I can tell Schiano won’t let the players do that, but as fans we need to remember that Cam Newton is a great talent and is due for a breakout performance. I just hope it is next week.

@Buc Fan #238 – No one is calling out a grammatical mistake.

  20. bucobruce Says:

I have been on this site saying the Bucs will be 10-6 before the season ever started,I seen all the talent we had and a new head coach and 10-6 was an easy prediction for me.TAMPAAAAAA

  21. ALSTOTTSMART! Says:

    Agree with 2.0

One of Schiano’s strength’s was putting together this staff. It’s a great mix of experienced NFL coaches, experienced former player coaches, and great fundamentals college coaches. And a good “advisor”.

  22. SacBucs Says:

At first I thought Schiuno( that’s my nickname for him grammer police) was a complete a-hole. I saw how he was screaming at the buc players I’m like “that’s not how you coach grown men maybe pop warner but not nfl players” I couldn’t have been more wrong. I was hating on Greg so bad before the bye week I seen him yelling and he started to look like Lepercan from the hood..lol Chuckie now the Lepercahn.. Grammer cop spell check that for me please! I’m ol skool so i was watching the game roasting Coach.

I couldnt have been more wrong..Coach came in here and saved jobs. I love this guy he’s just what the team, the GM, and organization needed a Leader of Men! He is the reason for all the success we are having. We basically got the same team from last year give or take so it was coaching. Turned Mason into a beast, took the rollerskates off of Roy and made Qunicy relevant again. I can go on and on but some fan will pull out the ol’ critic badge so i will not.

Joe your taste in women is awesome! Wow

Go Bucs F#&$ the grammer police only lil gurls sit around correcting people lil momma.

  23. MOBucs Says:

Schein can’t be taken seriously. His opinions change with the winds.

  24. tidalguy Says:

I think this a complete trap game. We had better be aware.
As for the secondary, is it scheme or is it players?
    GO BUCS!!
