Mason Foster And Pineapple

November 3rd, 2012

Joe thought he’d take a break in Aqib Talib coverage to bring you a breezy, Saturday feel-good post while you take a break from college football and guzzling beer.

Damn, when looking at how the Bucs have played this year — even in losses — and to remember that friggin’ horror show fans were ambushed with week after grotesque week last year, it’s like a whole new team.

Even though the Bucs are one game below .500, this year’s bunch (there’s a Hubert Mizell word for you) seems light years better, and frankly is a breath of fresh air.

Joe has typed this before and stands by his words: There is no more improved player for the Bucs than middle linebacker Mason Foster. It’s like he’s a new man.

This has not been lost on Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com who, in an NFC South chat, even invoked the Pro Bowl when discussing Foster.

Karthik (San Jose)

Do you think Mason Foster will get Pro Bowl consideration if he continues to play at this level? He’s near the top of the league in tackles and makes numerous plays in the backfield

Pat Yasinskas

Possibly. Know he’s getting heavy consideration for All-NFC South midseason team that will run next week.

The Bucs linebacker play has been amazing. Sure, it’s helped that Quincy Black has shown up. Sure, it’s helped that Lavonte David has been everything Joe wrote about last winter and more.

But Foster has been the rock of the Bucs defense, simply playing amazing football.

Joe told this to Foster’s face not long ago, and let’s just say Foster liked what Joe said: “You should have some pineapple in your belly come February.”

Zero Bucs in the Pro Bowl. Not popular enough in their own city what makes you think any of the players are popular enough to get voted in? Truth hurts.

  2. Mavsmoney Says:

Shutup tbuc, coaches and players have a vote too.

  3. Andrew Says:

I guess it helps when your coach was a former linebacker because Foster and David have been that good. Then same cannot be said for Black though as he has improved but not enough to warrant the contract he received. That is why I am still holding out hope that we can get Manti Teo, who Im sure has also eaten plenty of pineapples Joe, so that we Black will become expendable. but I agree Joe Foster has been stellar, whether or not its enough to get him to the pro bowl is really irrelevant. It would be nice, but improbable.

  4. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I think we’ll probably get 2 or 3 guys in the Pro Bowl, but a lot more guys deserve consideration. A lot is also going to depend on how we finish. If we win 5 or 6 games, we may not get anyone in. Hopefully that won’t happen and I’ll be sneaking back in their hotel and eating pineapple with a bunch of Bucs.

  5. espo Says:

GMC being healthy and the new coaching staff are making a world of difference for Foster and others.

  6. Bucnnole Says:

Quincy Black has shown up?? What an idiotic statement Joe. Black has been invisible for two seasons. He’s the biggest waste of a roster spot there is. You are crazy if you think he contributes.

  7. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Quincy Black has played pretty well Bucnnole. He’s been in on less snaps, but he has contributed. He’s not great, but he is no longer horrible. And it’s not just Joe and I that believe that, all the experts have been saying that.

  8. Pete Dutcher Says:

Joe, did you already cover the 10/31 ALAN DELL story on Wright? Apparently, he thinks Wright is responsible for every presnt or past teammate who got suspended. I swear…the gjy is the worse sports writer I have ever read.

  9. Have A Nice Day Says:

“pineapple” is so awful. Of all the repetitive word play on this site, it is the absolute worst.

  10. Erick Says:

It’s going to take a few drop outs, which always happens, for any Bucs to get in Pro Bowl. Not that no Bucs deserve it, it’s just a popularity contest. You guys must’ve forgotten that Clay Matthews, DeMarcus Ware, Patrick Willis, Navarro Bowman, Chad Greenway, Lance Briggs and Urlacher all play Linebacker for NFC. Players, coaches, and fans do not watch all games for every teams, therefore, they will vote for names they recognized even if there are more deserving candidates.

  11. skp Says:

at his rate we may get freeman and possibly a WR into the pro bowl, offensive selections are much more stat-line driven. on defense, as another poster mentioned, there are alot of popular LBs who are playing well enough to beat out Foster on the voting front. i think Mason will be featured on several “Pro Bowl” snubs lists as one or two guys go ahead of him on name value. if a guy like urlacher is tired of flying to hawaii, mason may go as an alternate. especially on defense and OL, there is a severe disconnect between who played best in a season and who goes to the pro bowl

  12. Tbuc Says:

I’m voting daily for Bucs players. Let’s get the rest of the fans to vote as well. Don’t complain about zero pro bowlers if you don’t vote.

  13. SacBucs Says:

I have to be cafeful the police aint reading this. Excuse me is not reading this.lol I think Donald Penn shood be considered to go pro bo. Ask Jared Allen Damarcus Ware Jason pierre Paul Will Smith John Ab etc. The guy has been up against some of the best rusher in the league. Holding it down for some years BIG DAWG. Protecting our franchise. So you fans who do get the chance to hang with my pirates show them some love for me! Here come the popo
