Barber Won The War

October 26th, 2012

Yeah, Ronde Barber got burned last night in Minnesota, but his manly open-field tackle of Adrian Peterson, and his feats-of-strength strip of Peterson more than made up for it.

Barber just out-gutted the ball from Peterson in the second quarter, like the way Joe behaves when he and another mortal go for the last beer. (Barber video here.) The score was 13-6 Bucs and the Vikings were driving at their 30 yard line. This was a huge play. Peterson hadn’t fumbled all season.

Barber led the Bucs last night with eight tackles. Michael Bennett and Eric Wright each had four.

What Barber is accomplishing this season is stunning. And it’s not just the age thing; the guy is making plays every week.

Don’t forget how he kept getting in Ponder’s face. That’s was some good stuff from him.

  2. bucx01 Says:

Can not think of another player on D who as made as many big plays as him this year… Maybe JJ..

  3. Ladyz Says:

Now, theres a real Buccaneer Man!

  4. Fear The Glow Says:

Keep Ronde for one more season so that we can shore up the corner position and FINALLY find his replacement. We’ve been trying to replace him at corner for more than a decade and it’s about damn time we take that seriously. Aqib clearly isn’t the answer.

Keep Aqib on and keep him disposable and then spend this next draft on a legit corner. Then mentor a safety to take Barber’s spot. We’ll be sitting pretty on defense for the next few years and ready to rock and roll.

Ronde coming back this season has pretty much cemented him into the Hall of Fame (although in my opinion he was already in). It’s amazing how he continues to make plays, week in and week out.

  6. tha truth is... Says:

Keep tha old man as long as he can suit up. U cannot teach those instincts anywhere

    this +1

the game seems too easy for him sometimes. he makes mistakes at times, but his plus plays are some kinda awesome. like watchin jordan in his heyday with the bulls, sometimes he couldn’t miss, it seemed.

  9. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Exactly Lurker. For every missed tackle or TD he gives up, he makes 3 splash plays in our favor. It’s unbelievable to me how he just keeps doing it week in and week out, year in and year out, decade in and decade out. Any fan of the Bucs that criticizes him is an absolute MORON!!!!! Aside from #55, he’s the most influential player we have ever had, and we may never have another one like him. My advice to every fan is just enjoy it, because he won’t be here forever (I don’t think).

  10. Have A Nice Day Says:

For every play Barber makes, he allows an equal big play for the opposing team. I love the guy, but there has to be someone on the team that can be more consistent.

  11. Have A Nice Day Says:

lol I just read the post above mine and apparently I am an “absolute MORON”.

I like your posts most of the time Hawaiian, but seriously, is it really that cut-&-dry? I mean, isn’t it possible for some of us to be fans while disagreeing with you?

  12. sandbagrudy Says:

Deion Sanders made the statement in his pregame analysis that the Buccaneers couldn’t stop anything on defense they were terrible why such a broken spirited resentment towards the Buccaneers is it because he’ll be recognized as the third or forth best cornerback in the hall of fame behind Ronde Barber and Rod Woodson who both have a humble just make plays mentality not that of a jacklegged blabbermouthed preacher Deion is. He damn sure with his holyier than thou mentality made that open field tackle on Peterson last night at 37 hell he wouldn’t have made it at 23. This team is in every game to the last drive and very well could have been undefeated but the guy with the guady suits says that there terrible

It was clear to me that the commentators last night knew nothing about the Bucs!

They talked about the Vikes the whole time.

Anyway, who else in Tampa getting a little pissed about the lack of respect? I hope the players are. Playing angry is good.

Ronde Barber is a demi-god. He is a genuis. It is clear that his mind and heart are what seperate him from men who are physically superior to him.

Every game this season he has made big plays. Yes a few missed tackles and blown coverages BUT you will never see him ‘loaf’ or halfass it. NEVER!

I am 29. I first started watching the Bucs for real in 1996, Dungys first year. I followed that original ‘band of brothers’ so closely.

It is an honor to still have Ronde, the last member of that elite core of players on the field.

In fact, I am considering naming my first son Ronde in honor of such a valiant warrior and overachieving Underdogg.

Long Live Ronde Barber. King of Tampa Bay.

  14. Smitty Says:

Even if he wasn’t seriously considered for the HoF before this season, his transition and GREAT play at safety should get him there. He is fast approaching best ever Buc player status…I think we have to name something significant after him.

  15. Adam Says:

I don’t know if Ronde is the greatest Buc ever, but I know I don’t have to name too many people to get to him.

Seriously, there were a lot of doubters about him transitioning to safety. I don’t think there’s any doubt he is a Hall of Famer anymore.

  16. TAC Says:

What is amazing to me is his ability to play at this level through all the coaching changes. He is the epitome of a professional, and hopefully will be recognized in the HOF when the time comes.

He is the anti D. Sanders, and maybe that is the problem Sanders has with him. Sanders never tackled, was never really part of a Team, just all about himself, jumping on good teams at their peak for a ring. Madden used to call them guests, and that is Sanders, a guest on a team, and guest should be stamped on his statues forehead in the HOF.

  17. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    HAND,
When it comes to Ronde, no its not possible. He gets a pass.

  18. Hawaiian Buc Says:

And your ratio is way off. He makes considerably more plays than he misses. It’s not even close.
