Mike Bennett Wants To Stay Put

September 24th, 2012

With Adrian Clayborn on the shelf with a busted up knee, who’s going to play right defensive end for the Bucs?

Daniel Te’o- Nesheim, Sunday’s replacement?

George Johnson, the Rutgers holdover from the Raheem era who wasn’t activated yesterday?

Michael Bennett will be happy with either one of those guys there, as long as it’s not him at right end, so he told Joe this morning. Bennett also said Te’o-Nesheim is a guy who makes plays and just needs an opportunity like this.

“Daniel is a very impressive player. He was a third-round pick and he just needs the opportunity. Every time he gets the opportunity he makes a couple of plays,” Bennett said.

“I’m more comfortable playing my same position I always play. I don’t really want to go to the right end. But if they want me to go there, I’ll go there. But I really want to stay at the left side.”

Bennett went on to say he’s one of the versatile players on the defense and can play right end, and he rushes inside and lines up at linebacker.

Joe can’t blame Bennett for wanting to stay in his comfort zone. First, what player wouldn’t? And with the pace Bennett’s on, he’s going to collect a king’s ransom as an unrestricted free agent after this season. Legitimate NFL pass rushers make the big bucs — always.

Daquan Bowers hopefully will be back in 3 more games… impressed with Bennett big time….

  2. Brandon Says:

He agree. Bennett is killing it at LDE. Keep him there. Most teams are right handed and he is good against the run too.

As for our options at RDE, Teo’Neishem could be okay, George Johnson, too… but what I’d really like to see is Dakoda Watson lining up at RDE full-tim on passing downs. He is a major threat off the edge there.

Andre Carter wouldn’t be a bad person to bring in for a look as would former UNC DE Donte Paige-Moss who should be getting healthy about right now. Paige-Moss was considered a possible top 10 pick entering his lsat season at UNC before he was benched for poor performance and then injured. Butch Davis knows what he has to offer.

I don’t think anybody is holding their breath for Bowers. If he manages his way off the PUP list and ever suits up, it wouldn’t be reaslistic to think he’ll be anywhere close to contributing til week 10 at the earliest.

Can we talk about the amount of Bucs fans at the Cowgirls game. Probably just as many as there were at our first home game. I’m exaggerating, but there were a pretty good amount there.

Tampa stop being pathetic! Support your football team.

    Sign him.

Finding a DE is hard for us, and he’s here already.

    If it ai’t broke…

  7. Have A Nice Day Says:

Bennett is gonna make Ray Edwards type money next year. Same position, similar production. He better make that money as a Buc or I’ll be steamed.

  8. guns4roses Says:

@BucsJuice I too was impressed with the number of Bucs fans in the stands at Cowboys Stadium. Too bad we didn’t have an organized tailgate meetup.

  9. Patrick Says:

If we’re in the playoff hunt, I’d say give him a few plays one game at a time…….let him get used to things again and don’t put too much of a load on him at first.

If we’re 1-6 and Freeman continues his 3 and out’s ineffectiveness, then let him rest the whole year.

  10. JonBuc Says:

“rushers make big bucs and bucks.” Freudian slip or pun intended? 🙂 He’s pricing himself out of Tampa with this stellar play…damn him!

  11. Miguel Grande Says:

What is this nonsense, GMC holding secret strategy meetings with his coordinator? Bennett deciding what position he’s going to play?

That will not stand in the NSO!! The inmates will NOT be running the asylum!!

  12. Derek Says:

I was hoping this story was about him wanting to stay here 🙁

  13. Pete 422 Says:

I like the idea of Watson coming in on passing downs.

In a weird way this could prove a positive for Da’Quan Bowers. He gets a chance to play A premier pass rush spot and he is very talented in that department.
