Jason Garrett Concerned With Bucs Defense

September 22nd, 2012

The way the Bucs secondary was sliced to shreds last week by Eli Manning, one would think opposing coaches would be salivating at the chance to throw at the Bucs, given the fact they are allowing an average of more than 400 passing yards a game.

Either Cowboys coach Jason Garrett was yanking peoples’ chains earlier in the week, or he believes the passing yards allowed by the Bucs is a statistical anomaly.

“Yeah, the Giants game got a little wild, but [the Bucs defense] did a lot of good things in that game.” Garrett said to the Tampa Bay pen and mic club. “I think they are a very good defense, active up front, quick, good players, fast, explosive. Their linebacker can run and the cornerbacks can cover. Tonde [Barber] has made a nice transition [to safety] and Mark Barron, we knew a lot about coming out of Alabama.

“They are really good on all three levels.”

But Garratt has Tony Romo at quarterback, who has lit up the Bucs worse than what Manning did last week. Romo, dating back to the Chucky years, has tossed 11 touchdowns against the Bucs.

Garrett seemed to wave that number off as well.

“I don’t like to make a huge generalization,” Garrett said of any pattern Romo may have against the Bucs. “There are so many different players and coaches on both teams. There’s a new regime down in Tampa. We are worried about that right now. The past will have little bearing on what happens this week.”

Well, if the Bucs don’t shore up that porous pass defense — and over 800 yards given up in two games is no less than porous — the Bucs better be prepared for a shootout.

Joe isn’t sure if Josh Freeman can win a passing shootout with Romo.

Jason Garrett is probably more worried about having to deal with Schiano before and after the game. He might not be told good morning and evening, which could cause a sniveling toolbag like Michael Silver to whimper home and cry in his pillow.

Did you think Garret was gonna say the Bucs defense sucks, and we’re gonna throw it all over the yard on them?

  3. That Guy Says:

    Tonde?

  4. Miguel Grande Says:

All the Cowgirls have to do is stay close in the first half, make some fancy half time adjustments and Schiano will mail it in for the 2nd half.

Hopefully, the Buc coordinators will work on some stuff at half time while the Little General takes a leak, has a couple hot dogs, drinks an icy cold beverage and smokes a Marlboro.

Jerry Jones had pretty much promised, there will be no knees taken at the end of the game. I wonder if the Bucs will lay down on defense again in the 4th?

tonde barber, the least mentioned of the barber brothers, is flabbergasted.

I wouldn’t mind a display like last wee minus the 4th quarter. Up till then, we looked quite good all around.

  7. Lion Says:

He better be worried his team just got blasted by the crappy Seahawks.

    Miguel,

I’m sure you picked the Bucs before the season started to go up to NY and win right? This week you’re a Cowboys fan and next week you’ll be a Redskins fan just to try and prove you’re right. When the Bucs win this week; you’ll come up with some lame excuse as to how it happened.

  11. Deminion Says:

Go bucs the pass D isn’t that bad I just thought our D coord asked a lot from them last week

  12. Orlandobucfan Says:

I guess we have a hybrid of tiki and ronde on our team now good deal welcome to the bucs tonde.

  13. Rican Says:

We gave up all those yards in the 4rth quarter. In 8 quarters of football this season we have played great defense for 7 of them. Haters can suck a nut.

I’ll be right here rooting for the Buccaneers. I’m a big Tampa Bay fan, just not a fan of the Little General. I’m hoping that he can be shamed into actually coaching this team or allowing his coordinators to coach them up without his interference.

He can stand there on the sidelines pouting and collecting his fines while the professionals put him on ignore. The agents and the players union will eventually put an end to that as well. Then, he’ll have nothing left to do but coach or interfere.

A lot of that is coach talk, but any coach doesn’t take the opponent lightly. The main reason the Bucs D gave up so many big plays was that the offense couldn’t sustain drives in order to give the D a rest.

Is it just me or is Coach Garrett morphing into a younger Jerry Jones? From this photo he looks like he could be Jerry Jones’s kid. We will bring it today against the cowboys, 3 sacks 2int 1 fumble recovery. Bucs 28 Cowboys 17
    Go Bucs!
