Jordan Shipley Back In The Mix

September 18th, 2012

Per venerable eye-RAH! Kaufman of The Tampa Tribune, Preston Parker injured his foot Sunday and the Bucs have responded by re-signing WR Jordan Shipley and cutting guard Derek Hardman — again.

Shipley was cut from the Bengals midway through the preseason and the Bucs claimed him on waivers, but he didn’t do enough on the field for the Bucs to earn a roster spot.

Somewhere, Tiquan Underwood is wondering what’s going on.

    Did Shipley get a haircut?

  2. Westcoastbucsfan Says:

I do think its weird that Underwood wasn’t brought back. How does a guy dominate practice and preseason only to not make a roster, seriously?

  3. Colorado Buc Says:

You would think that they would give Underwood a call first. Maybe Shipley fits Parkers role better though.

  4. flmike Says:

Shipley can play on special teams

  5. Larry Says:

My guess is special teams – he’s a good receiver but no special team experience to draw on. Otherwise, he’d be on the team.

  6. Jbrooks8604 Says:

As stated Shipley plays special teams and he is a more prototypical slot if we ever decide to us one. Underwood really doesn’t have a place on he Bucs offense. I see him as being more of a 4 or 5 wide set type of receiver and the Bucs rarely use three receiver sets. I like underwood but he just doesn’t fit the power set offensive style we a running in Tampa. There are plenty of teams that would be dumb to pass up on him though so I’m kind of shocked he hasn’t been picked up by someone yet though.

  7. evo Says:

If umderwood or shipley were any good. They would’ve been picked up by other teams by now. Lets stop worrying about mediocre players and wonder when our d-line will stop looking like swiis cheese and smelling like munster

  8. Jbrooks8604 Says:

Dismissing players because they aren’t on the roster isn’t smart. Tony romo was on the practice squad and no he’s one of the better qb’s in the league. There have been numerous other players like that. Underwood showed talent and so has shipley. If the team can figure out how to use them properly they could very well help us win games.

  9. houstonbucs Says:

    Winslow to new England.
    Lol.

  10. DaKid Says:

I heard it was because Shipley plays special teams and Underwood doesnt

  11. bucfanjeff Says:

Buc fans are wondering about Underwood as well.

  12. J-VILLBUCS Says:

Dumb?! I don’t know why were bringing in WR when we need depth on our D-line. Sometimes I wondering what they know that I don’t lol.

  13. CanadianBucsFan Says:

SO many times under this new bucs coaching staff we have released a player, then brought the same player back. We’ve even twice released a player and picked them up then release them once again and ONCE again we pick them up.. DT gilberry and Hardman are perfect examples.. I understand injuries and stuff like that happen and sometime you do have to change your roster, but jesus christ Dont pull the same thing again that we have done to Gilberry and Hardman because that is just not fair..

  14. Westcoastbucsfan Says:

@canadianbucsfan, I think the Bucs are tweaking rosters before each game based on what they need that week. Gilberry and Hardman are still getting paid so I don’t think they’re hurting too bad.

  15. Colorado Buc Says:

    @jvill
They brought in a WR due to an injury at WR

@evo or anyone else bashing the D-Line

The D-Line didn’t allow Cruz and Nicks to catch balls and run 80 yards untouched. They are 3rd in the league in stopping the run, they may be short on depth, but there are practice squad guys that can step up when needed. Our D-Line has suprisingly been a stength, so to call them out is silly.

  16. Westcoastbucsfan Says:

    @Joe
I think you can add “again” to the end of the title of the article. Wasn’t Trueblood benched last year in favor of James Lee?

He clearly is just barely getting it done as a starter but I think he will make good depth. If anything ever happened to Penn though (*knock on wood*), I think Dotson would go to LT and Trueblood would be the starter again.

  17. J-VilleBuc Says:

    @Colorado

What game were you watching because are D-Line gave Manning all day to throw couldn’t even get 1 sack, Hell I thought we still had sackless Kyle Moore on the team. Also are D-Line let there 3rd string RB run all over us once he came in. The only reason were 3rd against the run is because we had a good game against the Panthers, That shows how bad we got ran on. We were 1st with 10 yards then to 3rd, we’re lucky they were playing from behind the whole game or our stats for Run D would be worse.

Injury at WR? Really so you bring in another guy that previously had an injury similar to the one our injured WR has………. sounds real smart. No one wanted him, but us(That should tell you something). Honestly I’d take T.O. to be our 3rd string WR.

  18. SteveK Says:

    Why not pick up Shipley.

Let’s see of he can be a dynamic returner.

We are year one in the Schiano rebuild. I can’t blame him for churning the PO and seeing which guys can step up.

Joe, any word on the freak talent Dale Moss? He is intriguing.

  19. Jbrooks8604 Says:

@J-ville- all accounts claim hat Shipley is healthy and his past injury doesn’t effect him and his game. Parker is currently battling a foot injury. It’s not comparable in any way.

  20. Westcoastbucsfan Says:

I agree that our d-line had a subpar game against the Giants but I dont think depth was the issue in that game. I think Eli was just amazing at calling out the protections and adjusting to what we were showing. I hope we can get it together for Dallass.

  21. sandbagrudy Says:

84 snaps for the D line put that barrier on any d line in the nfl and see the results in the 4th quater put together some lengthy rives on offense and give these lames some rest

  22. SteveK Says:

    I miss DaQuan Bowers.

  23. Miguel Grande Says:

Again Dominick’s hands are tied behind his back, he can only sign players that have passed the dreaded and unnecessary 110X16 torture tests. Any other player will either fail the gauntlets or his legs will be too traumatized to practice and play after them.

Out of say 1500 available players, he’s limited to a half dozen because of the Little General’s stupidity and stubbornness.

It keeps biting them in the ass, week after week.

Remember Gruden’s offensive scheme that was so complicated players compared it to learning Chinese. Whenever he lost an offensive player to injury it took 6 weeks before a new player the could actually play in that system. Gruden as too stubborn to change.

  24. Miguel Grande Says:

    was

  25. SteveK Says:

    Miguel,

You’re a trip. Who would be your coach? Would you run a Tecmo Bowl 4 play offense and Defense? C’mon man!

This is year one of a major cultural and personnel overhaul. Be patient, we are only getting better.

  26. bucs911 Says:

    @miguel grande

Don’t you have a softball game to go to or something

  27. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Miguel Grande hearts Chip Kelly. It’s a scary, scary obsession that he has with ol’ Chip. I am uncomfortable with all his gushing. He also loves him some Bill Musgrave. If I were them, I would definitely go out and get a TRO, because it is quite frightening.

  28. bucobruce Says:

Shipley would of been rookie of the year if it was not for Mike Williams.Shipley could be one of the best #3 wideouts in the nfl he just needs a lot of playing time to get back in his grove.

  29. J-VilleBuc Says:

Rookie of the year if not for Mike Williams? Well Mike didn’t win Sam Bradford did. If he had anything I think the Bengals would have kept him to compliment A.J. Green. There’s lots of teams that passed on him that need WR. Rams, Seahawks, Miami ,Vikings. Just don’t like the idea of noone wanting him and we take him.

  30. Jwayne Says:

Oh Miguel….you are ten pounds of sh@t in a five pound bag. I’m gonna guess by ur stupid little comments you have never played a down of football in ur life. Why are u so stuck on the conditioning test? 16×110 sprints are nothing for a professional football player. It does not render you useless for the rest of the week including the game. I coach high school football and we have our kids run similar sprints at the end practice everyday and they seem to handle it just fine. Btw go manatee hurricanes number 1 in the nation right now lol

  31. FreemanBomb5 Says:

I actually would prefer Chip Kelly to Schiano myself but to each its own. Also feel that Underwood deserves that roster spot far more then say Myron Lewis or Shipley.

  32. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Chip Kelly is Steve Spurrier 2.0. Gimmicky offense that would never work in the NFL, except in preseason. Oregon is a fun team to watch, but they take advantage of their superior speed by spreading out the defense. The Pac-10 plays no defense. That offense doesn’t work in the NFL, because you don’t have that type of speed and talent difference. There’s no Arkansas State or Tennessee Tech in the NFL last I checked. And before you say it, Chip Kelly’s offense is absolutely nothing like what Cam Newton or Tim Tebow ran in college. Nothing at all. Having him turn us down was the best thing that could have happened to us.

As for Underwood, Jbrooks8604 nailed it. Nothing more to say, and I guarantee you that’s why he’s not on our roster. It’s not like Schiano doesn’t love the guy.

  33. Miguel Grande Says:

Tiquan is in the doghouse and he won’t play in the NFL until Schiano lets him out. Former players are dogged behind closed doors like Okoye (knee) was, that keeps players available for re-signing.

The other teams are starting to catch on and are starting to sign Buc ex-players.

The Dolphins were desperate for WR help and Tiquan tore them up, why didn’t they sign him?

Don’t you just love the NSO?

  34. gt40bear Says:

Apples and oranges. Two different skill sets. Shipley is a slot receiver and Underwood is not. Now if they wanted to sign Underwood to replace Benn…

  35. Hawaiian Buc Says:

So wait a minute Miguel. You think that no other team is signing Underwood because he’s in Schiano’s doghouse? You are joking right? Have you even paid attention to the NFL? I’m speechless to say any more, but you need to get your head examined.
