No Right Guard, Punt Returner Named Yet

September 3rd, 2012

The leader of the New Schiano Order isn’t talking much about gameday personnel decisions.

Asked today about his starting right guard, who will replace Davin Joseph, Greg Schiano was vague at One Buc Palace.

“[Ted] Larsen is working there,” Schiano said. “We got a couple of other things going. I’d rather wait to later in the week.”

Schiano also wouldn’t offer a name when asked about his starting punt returner, only to say he’s got one.

Schiano did say that the Bucs could keep four running backs on the active roster, so long as most play special teams.

Joe will have more later today from One Buc Palace. The Bucs have their regularly scheduled day off tomorrow and resume practice Wednesday.

Didn’t we pay big money for Koenen? He is obviously the starting punter!

Never mind I read that too fast, not punter but punt returner… it helps to pay attention

Probably still scouring the waiver wire but Larsen will be the starter for a while. I bet Smith will be the returner as long ad Ware is on the team.

I hate to say this because I like what Schiano’s done so far, but I believe cutting Okoye will come back to haunt the defensive line this season. His knee was just getting practice and game ready when they let him go. I think Schiano is going to learn that because talent makes all the difference in this league he’s going to have to soften his hardass stance a little bit in order to accommodate circumstances. Not always, but sometimes. It’s a big drop off from Okoye to Irvin and it wasn’t necessary. Okoye is not a problem and is a hard worker. I think it was senseless, honestly.

Okoye broke the rules and had to go. Damn the team, rules are rules.

One of the few things Raheem said that I actually agree with was, “I’ll put up with you until I can replace you.” That’s smart. Schiano, on the other hand, is cutting guys like Okoye BEFORE he can replace them. That’s dumb and if it becomes endemic it will hurt the team in the long run. This is coming from a Schiano supporter, by the way.

What the H@!! are you spouting now? Please point out what, specific, rule or rules Okoye supposedly violated. Oh. wait, you’re assuming he didn’t take or, maybe didn’t pass the ‘dreaded, unnecessary, un-called-for, tyranical, Conditioning Test. I say didn’t take or didn’t pass ’cause I don’t believe you know anything about why he was released. You’re speculating, and fitting those speculations to your bias against
unnecessary, un-called-for, tyranical, Conditioning Tests. Being unable to perform up to Coach’s standards is NOT violating a team rule. I’m not sure how close to performing Okoye was, BUT, I do have to acknowlege that Coach is, probably, the closest person, outside of Okoye himself, to having that info. Personally, I don’t like the idea of Coach throwing away a roster spot on a non-performer, just to please a troll like you

I know others have said this but I agree. Switch Zuttah and Larsen.

Could it be, Mike Smith is the full time return man. Then used sparingly in the run game via Darren Sproles style? Would be a nice element in the offense.

941 u hit it on the head.I think he can be a better returner but not as good as sproles coming out on a swing pass or something of the nature.
