Meet New Bucs TE Danny Noble

September 2nd, 2012

Undrafted rookie tight end Danny Noble, the pride of the University of Toledo, chatted with Joe yesterday after learning he made the Bucs’ 53-man roster.

JoeBucsFan.com: What were your feelings waiting to find out if you made the Bucs roster? How did that go down for you?

Danny Noble: The way we did it, you really didn’t find out if you made the team until you showed up at practice [Saturday]. So, you know, I was nervous all night waiting on a phone call if they did call me. But the call never happened so I woke up and came to practice feeling good, but at the same time you have to be focused. We’ve got a game in a week.

Joe: Do you have a story on how the Bucs found you, through a certain scout or coach?

Noble: I’m not even sure. People were talking to somebody. I’m pretty sure my agent knew somebody out here and I’m pretty sure the Bucs got hold of the little college film that I did have. But I’m not really 100 percent on how they found me. When I came to the tryout I got a lot of opportunities to show what I can do and they ended up liking me.

Joe: Did you have other tryout options?

Noble: There were a couple of other teams but the opportunity seemed best here.

Joe: You broke your leg last season. Are you 100 percent?

Noble: Yeah, I’m 100 percent. The injury was a big injury and I had to come back. There’s always going to be something there. You know how injuries work. But besides that, I couldn’t be better than I am today.

Joe: As the roster sits now, there is no backup fullback and three tight ends. Are you cross-training at fullback?

Noble: Last preseason game I got a chance to get in at fullback. You know, coaches just wanted to see how it worked for me. It was cool. Something new. I like contact, so you know fullback’s a pretty nice spot even though I’m tall to be a fullback. But I’m learning technique along the way. We’ve got great coaches. Wherever they want me to be I’ll be there.

Joe: Anything fans might find interesting about you? Any nicknames we need to know?

Noble: (laughs) All the cats on the team call me Shwag. But you know I don’t really know how I got that. I stay clean.

Another player saying how great the coaching is. Can’t recall hearing so many players reference that in a long time, if ever.

  2. Piratic Says:

    “Shwag”, as in commercial-grade cannabis?

  3. BuccFanInHawkeyeCountry Says:

Thats the only shwag i know patrick. Unless he just says “Swag” a lil different. Haha

  4. FlBoy84 Says:

Hopefully it’s “Swag” as in Swagger. 🙂 Who knows. Saw that Carolina signed Dwan Edwards & released Terrell McLain, 3rd rnd pick DT from USF in 2011. Might be a good depth addition if he makes it to the team at #5 in waivers.

  5. Dew Says:

Man I really feel bad for these guys on the bubble. It never ends really for them. Always someone trying to take there job. Right now I just hope the Bucs made excellent choices on the ones they kept.

On another subject, I read Chicago was planning to sign Okoye. Haven’t heard if he passed the physical or not yet but I also read that Brian Price might be cut if Okoye signs. Like the Winslow trade for a 7th rd pick, I’m wondering if the pick we got for Brian Price is conditional to them both making the roster?

  6. Stanglassman Says:

#5 in waivers? How does that priority work?

  7. FlBoy84 Says:

Similar to the draft. Each team can put in a claim for a player with less than 4 years in the league. Team with highest waiver claim number (Colts #1, Rams #2, etc. gets the player.

  8. NJBucsFan Says:

The waivers follow the original draft order until week 4,5, or 6. Can’t remember what week but then it reverts to current season record.

Not sure about McClain. May have been a 3rd round pick but the Panthers reached for him that yr due to need. Rotoworld has him ranked as one of the worst DT’s in the league against the run. Most coaches that focus on the run for the O will deman the D stop the run. We all know how that went last yr. Now with that said we might pick him up for inside knowledge being his former team is our Wk 1 opponent.

  9. FlBoy84 Says:

Bucs haves brought guys in to pick their brain before, wouldn’t surprise me if they did it again. If I recall, McCLain was more of a penetrating 3-tech DT with a non-stop motor, and far from a finished product. Not saying he’d be the answer, but he’s another interesting body out there that could be developed.

Great Job with all the interviews lately Joe!

  11. Capt. Jean Lafitte Says:

    @Dew

The Buc’s get the first option on the conditional draft picks on both players, because they both made it through the initial 53 player cut. If either had been cut on the first initial league mandated 53 man cut then the Buc’s would have received the second option on the conditional draft pick.
In Winslow’s case it was 1st option 6th rounder, 2nd option 7th rounder. Hope this help answer your question. 🙂

    Great story ..Joe…..

  13. NYC BUC Says:

He looks like Gaines Adams! Hope he gets stronger, its good he likes contact, Im rooting for him

  14. colin Says:

the condition is that winslow is on the team week one so we dont get the pick

  15. Capt. Jean Lafitte Says:

    @colin

My mistake, you are absolutely right on Winslows conditional trade. According to the condition Winslow has to be among the forty-five players that will suit up in the first game. Thank you 🙂

  16. Capt. Jean Lafitte Says:

The Buc’s get the second option, a 7th round pick

  17. Nate Says:

‘Shwag’ can also be slang for prizes given out at live appearances and events, a la radio promotions or extreme sports events.

  20. Brandon Says:

I also saw and commented earlier about Terrell McClain. He is quick and strong but his motor is his biggest question mark, that and productivity. I wouldn’t mind seeing him replace Cory Irvin.

Also, Bucs have apparently signed WR Dale Moss from South Dakota St. Keep your eye on this guy. One year of college football, 4 years of college basketball, good production, 60 catches 900+ yards, but even more intriguing is that he is 6’3 215 runs sub 4.5, jumps 41.5″ and had one of the best 3 cone drill marks 6.35 of anybody in recent pre-draft history. The guy is big, athletic, with very good quickness and explosiveness. If PJ Fleck is really THAT good, perhaps Moss can develop quickly for us.

  21. Brandon Says:

Another name to consider. Former Miami Hurricane OL Brandon Washington was cut by the Eagles. He is very similar to injured Buc OG Davin Joseph. Big, strong, quick, plays too high at times, played some LT in college like Joseph as well. I would love to see him brought in.

  22. Paul Says:

Maybe they’ll call him Danny Dank-o if he starts to dominate.
