Barrett Ruud Back In The NFC South

August 20th, 2012

Joe cannot remember one player who so divided a Bucs fan base like linebacker Barrett Ruud.

NFL authorities from national types down to Bucs coaches lauded Ruud for what he was supposed to do in the Tampa-2.

Many Bucs fans and one local former Bucs player who makes a living behind a radio microphone would not listen, despite the fact Ruud led the Bucs in tackles. They demanded Ruud do what he was not supposed to do, and that was be a combination of Dick Butkus and Jack Lambert, in other words, a fifth down lineman.

Countless glasses of beer were thrown at local barkeepers due to the rancor and anger Ruud ignited in local watering holes. Neighborhood dogs and cats feared his very name.

Well, Ruud will be talked about again in the Tampa Bay area as the Bucs’ division rivals, the New Orleans Saints, acquired Ruud in a trade for an undisclosed draft pick, per multiple sources.

So Bucs fans get ready: your heckling of Ruud has not come to an end.

Not even the Saints could bribe Ruud to hit someone.

  2. lurker Says:

wow, how many lb’s do the saints need?

LOL Joe has to admit that is a good one.

  4. Jwayne Says:

lol that is pretty funny OptimisTroll. And the saints sure are stockpiling LB’s. They must be anticipating more suspenstions!

  5. espo Says:

If there was any doubt before, it is now official. This is the best offseason ever!

  6. Fear The Glow Says:

I doubt he will even make their roster.

  7. Macabee Says:

The Saints have had a run of bad luck at LB. According to Asst. coach, Joe Vitt all starting LBs are injured. Curtis Lofton has a high ankle sprain, David Hawthorne has a torn miniscus and must have surgery immediately, and Chris Chamberlain is lost for the season with a torn ACL. To make matters worst, The lone LB who is available, Ramon Huber has been suspended for the first 3 games for PEDs.

Barrett Ruud will have to save the day! lol.

  8. Architek Says:

    Non-factor

  9. knucknbuc Says:

Hahahahahaa. Please saints let him start. Literally how many teams has ruud been dumped by since he left? 3 now. Can’t wait to see ruud try and tackle blount and martin with nicks and dj blocking in front of them. Clean Jerseys all game long.

  10. Have A Nice Day Says:

Practically all their LBs are injured or suspended. This is a desperation signing.

  11. Jonny 3.3 Says:

Its sad to see our once starting LB not able to beat out rookies like Colin McCarthy and Bobby Wagner and hold on to the starting job. At least it proves that he wasn’t a starting MLB material and we did the right thing by cutting him.

  12. 941-Bucs Says:

At least now we know we can run up the gut on the Saints all day long now.

  13. Bucs fan Says:

Ruud isn’t that bad of a player. Our defense fell to last place without him. He isn’t a pro bowl player but he is a pretty solid player. I wish him luck because he had nothing but class when he played for us.

Problem is Joe, Rudd did the same thing Nickerson & Quarles did in the Tampa-2, he just did it farther past the line of scrimmage than those two did.

  15. Oahubuc Says:

Best thing to happen to our run game since the draft.

  16. Child Please Says:

Meriman is available get him now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Mr Lucky Says:

The odds on the Saints making the SuperBowl just went up to 100:1

  18. BigEl Says:

Always liked Ruud, you can bet he’ll make plenty of tackles against us. Good thing is, It’ll be 10-15 yards down field.

  19. Big Rob Says:

You guys do realize that Nickerson and Quarles had a beast defensive line in front of them keeping them clean right? Just proves that casual fans don’t know anything about football…. Ruud would have shined behind that defensive line.

  20. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

I hope Ruud does not choose this season to shut up his naysayers.

I also hope this means we’ll score more points on the Saints…because we’ll need them.

  21. John McKay Says:

Now can we get the Falcons to sign Clayton?
