Versatile Jamon Meredith

August 13th, 2012

Hardly a celebrated offseason signing, Bucs tackle Jamon Meredith is now with his sixth team in four years (Packers, Lions, Giants, Bills, Steelers, Bucs.) That’s not a great sign, but it’s also not easy to accomplish.

People keep seeing something in this guy.

Joe is taking note of Meredith, 26, because he came in to play left guard for Carl Nicks on Friday and was on the field in between Demar Dotson and Jeremy Zuttah. The tape shows Meredith made a key, powerful block on Doug Martin’s second-quarter touchdown run. Joe also saw him turn in other solid play.

Meredith was listed as a tackle when he came to the Bucs and was widely projected as a third-round tackle out of South Carolina in 2009, but he was picked in the fifth round by Green Bay and cut before that season.

If he’s now taking quality reps at guard, then he’s probably a lock to make the Bucs roster since he can play tackle as well and has been running through most of training camp as Jeremy Trueblood’s backup.

Meredith and Derek Hardman both give good depth at guard and tackle. Larsen plays guard and center. Dotson can play either tackle spot. Pretty solid depth on the Oline imo.

Tampa can never have enough versatile offensive linemen.
I did not see the tape of that block he made, but I am sure team Schiano saw it.
One has to wonder about Trueblood, if he will be around or not ?

He will make the team , and if he keeps up his work habits he may even be a one. Isn’t it funny how many players thrive under order and discipline ?

Larsen is interesting. He wasn’t very good last year, but played pretty well in 2010 at center; I doubt he has the oomph to do more than spot-duty at guard, though.

Mr. meredith here walked past me recently. I said hello. his response? “F you”. maybe he misunderstood? I guess hello sounds like I am going to hunt down your family and kill them all.. I have spent most of my life training for and subsequently ensuring the safety of others. I have lost count the number of those that I have laid my life on the line to protect, whether they knew it or not. but now because a guy can play football, it gives him the right to treat me like a piece of garbage. somebody forgot to send me the memo that is okay now.
