“We’re Not Really Cerebral Coaches”

August 9th, 2012

Joe’s enjoying the New Schiano Order, but Joe holds a special place in his heart for former Bucs coaches and loves to track their movements.

The last Bucs head coach was a legendary quote/storyteller, from tales of the beatings by Michael, Barry and Harry Morris, to the rumor that his grandmother ran like a bulldog, to his famous underwear quote and many more, Raheem Morris was never boring.

So Joe was eager to hear Raheem’s interview on 106.7 FM in Washington D.C. this week.

Among the highlights, Raheem shared that he’s not a brainy coach, and how he gets guys to play and practice hard.

“We’re not really cerebral coaches,” Raheem said of himself and Skins special teams coach Danny Smith. “We like to be vocal. We like to talk to our guys. We like to be able to communicate across the field to those guys. And that’s something that I know I’ve brought to the table a long time and it’s been the driving force for the back end. We’re the bus drivers. We gotta go out there everyday and drive the bus and increase the tempo and up it every single day to make everybody play harder on the football team.”

And Raheem shared that Tanard Jackson is on the right path and has what it takes to return to top form.

“He’s just got to get his head on right,” Raheem said of Jackson. “And he’s done a nice job of that in training camp and keeping it that way and showing up to work and doing all the things you need to do. Everything with this young man, the sky could be up for him. And that’s all he can do, is go out there and go to work and keep playing like he’s been playing. He’s done a nice job here in Washington. And hopefully he can continue to do that stuff to get back on the field in order to become the player that he once was. I have no doubt in my mind that he can be that type of guy again.”

Joe wishes Raheem well.

A nice reminder of how the Bucs hiring the anti-Raheem. I hope this guy knows how to win, or he’ll be just as much of a sideshow.

  2. dan Says:

really! i would have never pegged you for a ‘non cerebral’ coach raheem you seemed very well thought out and clever, both in your schemes and public speaking gigs!

  3. lurker Says:

    hey dan,

great job at being well thought out and clever yourself…doh

  4. lightningbuc Says:

“the sky could be up for him”

    LMAO!

  5. j lynch Says:

Him and Mc Coy should keep QUIET!!!!

  6. Architek Says:

The more he talks the it sounds as if he’s stuck in his own fantasy world. If you are still trying to justify Tanard Jackson’s mindlset in Tampa and Washington then there’s something wrong with you. Too loyal to the wrong cause even after being fired. Raheem is showing signs of insanity.

  7. RastaMon Says:

He would not have been allowed to empty the dirty towel bin in Bill Walsh’s lockeroom…..

  8. jb Says:

EVERY time this fool opens his mouth, he shows just how incredibly dumb and out of touch with reality he is. I am so sick of hearing about this LOSER! Put it to bed Joe!

  9. ALSTOTTSMART! Says:

    More Dan Snyder FAIL

  10. OAR Says:

Wow, I’m not sure which Forrest Gump quote to use?

  11. Adam Says:

The Worst Coach In Bucs History. And possibly the Dumbest in NFL history.

  12. jb Says:

Think about it……Just how out of touch with reality were the Glazers when they hired this moron as their head coach? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING???????

  13. Blackmagic00 Says:

    Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!

  14. Bobby Says:

Hey, this guy went 10-6 with what essentially was a bunch of rookies. I’m not defending his record last year and clearly he didn’t know how to keep a team of young men focused for the long run when adversity came but the guy went 14-8 through a 22 game stretch including 6 wins against our division rivals. Say what you will but if that’s an ‘idiot’ and a ‘moron’ and ‘the worst coach ever’ then there are a lot of teams around the NFL who would love to have a moron like that as their coach. During that 10 game slide he was horrible…no doubt about it, but prior to that he did a pretty decent job of motivating the Bucs to play ball. If he’d of had a race to 11 instead of a race to 10….we may have been in the playoffs in 2010. And for all of you who say we were lucky or it was a fluke how do you explain starting the 2011 season off going 4-2 and beating Atlanta and the Saints in the process??

I can’t explain the gut wrenching horrible play during that 10 game circus at the end but I do know that it wasn’t that ‘we were just lucky’ prior to that. Morris got what he deserved. You lose 10 games in that fashion and lose the team in the process you are going to get fired but I give him props for doing what no one, including everyone who posts on here, thought was possible in 2010. We just needed Schiano to bring the discipline and fundamentals this team needed.

  15. Buc N' A Says:

Thanks for the updates on Raheem, Joe. Keep’em coming. Not sure how Adam can proclaim him the worst coach in Buc’s history. He must be new to the Buc fan base. Have you seen the 80’s??? Early 90’s?? Come on. A 10-6 record and one of the most exciting seasons in the history of the Bucs does not represent the worst coach in history by a long shot. I agree Raheem needed to be let go, but I still loved him as a coach and hope he does well enough in the future to land a head coaching gig when he is a bit more mature and ready. Having said that, I love me some Schiano.

  16. robert Says:

somebody needs to get rah one of those twirly hats, cause the guy really is special…

  17. Adam Says:

JOE: can you not cut-n-past text into the comment box??

  18. knucknbuc Says:

I know raheem wasn’t a great coach last year and deserved to get fired for that debacle last year. But cmon guys “worst coach in history” a “idiot” and “moron”.Dude finished 2nd in coach of the year voting. Geez he’s definantly not the worst ever. Last year was really really really bad. But he wasn’t the worst coach ever. O and what the hell does “the sky could be up for him mean?” Isn’t the sky always up for everyone? Maybe tanard being baked half the time it’s higher? If anyone can tell me what he means by that let me know. lol

  19. Adam Says:

This is the guy who hired an OC and a DC and fired both in 8 months. This is the guy who had the idea of a 2-2-1 series rotation for his running backs (regardless of how they are doing). This is the guy who after getting fired after enduring a 10 game losing streak said he would do anything different. This is the guy who said the following:

“Obviously, the only criticism I care about comes from people with (last) names that end with G. Next, the criticism, his name would have to end with a D and that would be Dominik.”

He thinks Dominik ENDS with D.

If that’s not a moron, an idiot, or (more kindly) someone of LOW MENTAL CAPACITY, I don’t know what is. Heck, the guy even SAID he’s not a cerebral coach.

I think it’s pretty evident the guy doesn’t use his brain. He was the worst coach in the history of the Bucs. I would take EVERY coach the Bucs ever had AHEAD of Raheem. I’d put him right up there with Rich Kotite and Dave Shula and Bobby Petrino.

“Everything with this young man, the sky could be up for him.” Hilarious!

I am not sure if Rah knows that the sky is up for everybody. Gerald does because he is usually looking at it after being laid on his back by an O-Lineman.

Bobby stop with this 2010 10 win argument, everyone who has an understanding of football including rah knows that the record was smoke and mirrors.

Never again in history will a NFL team see this list of non-starting and incompetent backup or third string qbs in one season:

    Jimmy Clausen,
    Matt Moore,
    Troy Smith,
    Max Hall,
    Jake Delhomme,
    Drew Stanton,
    Charlie Whitehurst,
    Donovan McNabb (released afterward)
Sam Bradford (5 games of experience)
Chase Daniel (4th quarter of week 17 with game in the balance to protect Brees).

The entire season was a fluky gift sandwiched by 3-13 and 4-12. Using a gol analogy, you don’t double bogey 17 holes and then hole one out from the fairway for par on 18 and become a scratch golfer.

The body of work tells the story. The body of work is: 17-31, last, next to last, last in the division. No playoffs. Any idiot could accomplish that – even you – I think.

  21. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

Adam, tell us how you really feel.

  22. ALSTOTTSMART! Says:

The prob with Morris is that he coaches strictly off emotion. He got them playing up high, but, when they fell, he had no x’s and o’s to dig them out, and on top of no skills at the chalkboard, he had no sense of discipline.

  23. tonytwocents Says:

“We’re the bus drivers. We gotta go out there everyday and drive the bus”

LMAO. What does that mean?! I’m surprised he didn’t start it with “Let’s go put on our underwear, and drive that bus!”

Thanks for reminding me about his grandma, “When we were young kids, right? I went to school, I was 6 years old, 7 years old. And this guy saw my grandmother and said my grandmother ran like a bulldog. And I beat the heck out of him. I beat the heck out of him.”

Seriously Laughed my a** off! Like, WTF are you getting at Raheem?! What does that have to do with football???!! Wow. Seriously laughed out loud, prob freaking my neighbors out in my apt building.

  24. foxworth Says:

    dam adam……..petrino

  25. lurker Says:

    hey oar,

why are you talking in the third person now too?
    😉

ps i like me some raheemisms.

  26. OAR Says:

    Thomass
Smoke and mirrors? This isn’t your bedroom!
And no, losing to those back-up QBs would have been worse, which we did not. So we won and you’re still pissing and moaning? Come on man, admit it you can’t stand Raheem’s team won in 2010!

  27. lurker Says:

thomas has a mirror on the ceiling that says, “objects in mirror are larger than they appear.”

ps oar, the bearded lady told me.

  28. OAR Says:

    lurker
    Now thats funny!

  29. thomas 2.2 Says:

smoke and mirrors was rahrah’s explanation, not mine ladies. so take your argument up with the exlided d backs coach of the redskins. lol

  30. lurker Says:

    hey thomas,

I appreciate your more chill approach. it’s like driving a bus in your underwear using smoke and mirrors talking about how stats are for losers!

  31. Bobby Says:

Sure Thomas…everything is luck. Are you forgetting we were the youngest team in the NFL so what does it matter who was QB?? And how do you explain the wins over Atlanta and the Saints who had Matt Ice and Drew Brees? Do you realize how silly you sound when you talk about 10-6 being ‘smoke and mirrors’ and ‘luck’?? That kind of talk makes Raheem sound like a scholar.

  32. mike078 Says:

I was at the 49ers game in SF in 2010. He did outcoach singleton. If the 49ers can turn around so can the Bucs.

  33. BucFan20 Says:

He forgot part of his speech. Play “harder and smarter”.

  34. BucsFan007 Says:

Better to be thought an (insert word here) than to open thy mouth & remove all doubt.

  35. hamilton Says:

nobody was saying all of this when we want 10 – 6

  36. thomas two point two Says:

Bobby: what part of this don’t you understand:

Rah said smoke and mirrors, not me. I was quoting rah.

  37. Bobby Says:

“Bobby stop with this 2010 10 win argument, everyone who has an understanding of football including rah knows that the record was smoke and mirrors.”

That was a quote from Rah?????

  38. lurker Says:

i have no idea what happened to my earlier post with this info…

smoke and mirrors quote from back in dec. 2011 is in the last paragraph. the whole thing is great, though. also includes the “i would never fire myself.”

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7390265/raheem-morris-tampa-bay-buccaneers-never-fire-myself

“Last year, this same team won 10 games, now through a little bit of smoke and mirrors so to speak, but that’s not the point,” Morris added. “You’ve got a chance to get better this offseason. You’ve got a chance to come out here and get an offseason and get these guys together. We’re not a finished product, but you don’t have to be a finished product in order to win. We proved that last year.”

  39. Spurlock Says:

I can explain the win over the saints last year bobby. Payton got his leg broke in the begining of the game and tried to keep coaching until he left at half time. I would say that was “lucky” for the head coach of a division rival to leave in the middle of a game.

P.S. I wonder if we had a bounty on him?
