Sullivan Uses Mike In Practice

July 30th, 2012

It’s a game-simulation detail Joe doesn’t recall seeing in practice during the Raheem Morris era, certainly not routinely like it’s seen now.

Offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan radios plays into Josh Freeman using a walkie-talkie, much like a headset would be used on gameday.

What does this mean? Joe can’t say it means much. But it’s another example the New Schiano Order’s focus on details.

Regarding Sullivan, offensive senior advisor Jimmy Raye told Joe that there’s been no decision made yet on whether Sullivan will call plays from the sidelines or from the big booth in the sky.

As long as there’s no Benn’d around on Sullivan’s cue cards, Joe will consider that a good start.

Good practice for Freeman as well as Sullivan.

as long as the failed GM is not wearing headsets i am ok with any props the coaches want to use

  3. Bobby Says:

I think that’s smart. The more you can mimic game situations the better.

  4. princespanky Says:

he has you all fooled, he’s ordering Schiano’s lunch….

make sure it’s ready in 12 minutes and 49 seconds and hold the mustard on that ham and cheese but 2 slices of provolone.

  5. Give it to Blount Says:

I don’t ever remember this happening the last 3 years of training camps but this is good thing, IMO.

    Buc realist:

Schiano, a real coach, will not let our DomDom GM anywhere near a headset with an open mic – ever. No more of DomDom telling the coaches who to play and when and who to focus the offense and defense around for perception reasons.

No more lobbying to shift sacks and tackles to Gerald to protect the GM’s rep. Thankfully DomDom has been neutered.

Although we still have to endure Joe’s reporting nonsense like every time a fan calls DomDom a rock star. With DomDom’s record that makes me want to puke.

  7. Evo Says:

Thats good. He’s never called plays before so good to get the practice now. I’d also like to see that from our DC as well. He’s new as well and could use all the practice he can get calling plays.

    Thomas you are a communist

    @andrewbucsfan:

Actually, I am anti-Glazer (the 04-11 version), anti-DomDOm, anti-establishment – I believe in holding the powers that be responsible when they fail and only the deserving (Ronde, DJ, Clay, Free etc) should succeed.

Figuratively speaking, I am a capitalist Bucs fan – in the purest sense of the word. I believe in accountability – if you stink (at playing, coaching or talent acquisition) you should be held accountable. I don’t believe it productive to propagandize failure to protect certain fan favorites.

You all who coddle the Glazers when they are cheap, DomDom when he screws up, Rah when he is obviously incompetent, Gerald when he disappoints etc – are the communists.

  10. Bucfan1532 Says:

Thomas, you crack me up. Buy I have to agree with you on dom and the glazers. I didn’t like the Glaser’s for a few years but it seems they have turned the corner. The jury is still out on dom for me.

    Joe
Pretty sure Greg Olson used Radios during training camp the last two years specifically during the two minute and hurry up sections of practice…Olson would also be on the sideline instead of next to the huddle and freeman would turn and look at him while putting his hand up to his ear…..I know you try to find any little detail to make it seem like this coaching staff is 10 times better than Raheem’s, but come on.

Raheem’s coaching staff had far more NFL experience than this coaching staff…minus jimmy raye…but let’s face it Jimmy Raye has never been very successful. His best offense ever finished 8th….. For someone being in the nfl for 20+ years….one would think he could have done better…

    .

    1) Never happened…especially not during games. Morris and Olson were trying to save their jobs, so they made bad calls.

    2) Wait. I’ve been easing up on you for a while, but there is a fault here I cannot resist. You are saying that a lack of success should be held against a person, but also that success should be denied them as well?

    That makes zero sense.

If the Glazers, Dominick and whoever else have success, it means the team is winning. Isn’t that the goal?

So by extension, by wishing failure on Dominick (for example) you are wishing failure on the team as well.

I’ve doubted whether you are really a fan of the Bucs for a while now, but I’m willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and accept your line of thought as ignorance in this case.

Dom has made a few good decisions: Freeman, Clayborn, Mike Will, signing Joseph and Penn, retaining Ronde and I believe hiring Schiano and stepping aside – overwhelmed by scores if not hundreds of poor ones – he gets credit for that.

Glazers get credit for 96-03 but tons of blame thereafter until this offseason.

If Schiano produces as I expect in time, there will be praise awarded. What got me riled up was all the b.s. anti-gruden positive spin that was being spewed during the last 3 putrid years (17-31, no playoffs).

    Be objective that is all.
