“I Still Don’t Know”

June 5th, 2012

One of the more intriguing comments from Greg Schiano after OTA practice at One Buc Palace today was in response to questions about Mason Foster.

Schiano wanted to make it clear that Foster isn’t necessarily the Bucs’ starting middle linebacker.

“I still don’t know, to be frank with you,” Schiano said.

The leader of the New Schiano Order had previously mentioned that he’s still “mixing and matching” at linebacker to determine what’s best, noting that there’s so much “nickel” played in the NFL, which only requires two linebackers on the field.

Of course, Schiano may just be playing everything very close to the vest, as are his players. Joe got a laugh when Mason Foster, who has shaved off his flowing locks, told a reporter that the mike linebacker role in the Schiano defense was “the same” as in the Raheem regime.

Sounds like the plan is the same except we will run faster, hit harder, play smarter……..err, that was the Raheem plan.

  2. Brad Says:

Wow if he plays it the same he might not make it out of training camp.

    “I don’t know” from Schiano means “I don’t know.”

I know Schiano’s problem – he has 3 or 4 Will linebackers and no Mike linebackers because Dom is an idiot – save Najee Goode who Schiano isn’t sure is ready yet.

Foster was abysmal last year at Mike and Schiano knows it;however, David is too small to be considered for Mike, Quincy is awful and Curran is really a Will as well.

I dont know means Schiano has to determine if Goode is ready, if he is – look for Foster to get snaps at Sam which thankfully makes Quincy expendable (sorry Joe Dom looks idiotic again).

More likely: schiano is forced to leave foster in the middle until it gets ugly hoping that Goode develops.

Foster was pretty decent at the Mike position when he and McCoy were healthy. After that his play did fall off. Foster will be the starting Mlb. On another note why in earth did he shave those dreads. Bowers did it last year and now FostER. I love me some dreads.

Take a waiver on Gary Brackett. Veteren presence with tons of expierence and heart. He’s a natural Mike backer and will man the spot for a few years while Foster learns.
