Report: Mike Sullivan Interviewing For Bucs OC Job

February 10th, 2012

Perhaps the most exciting thing about this post is that Joe gets to reference BSPN talking hottie Rachel Nichols.

It is she who Twittered earlier this afternoon that the Bucs are interviewing New York Giants QB coach Mike Sullivan for their vacant offensive coordinator gig.

Sullivan is a West Point grad, and a former Army player and coach who has been with the Giants for many years coaching receivers and now quarterbacks. Between the military background and working under Tom Coughlin all those years, one can assume Sullivan is a discipline-first kind of guy.

Also, it’s widely known that Bucs new head man Greg Schiano had good relationships with Giants coaches, who were based in his old stomping grounds.

Can Sullivan call plays? Joe has no clue. Joe’s just going to stare at the Nichols photo above and wonder.

Haha I tell my wife all the time I love Rachel Nichols but I am not sure why

  2. jvato24 Says:

I agree … She is a GREAT reporter.

  3. ClayBURN94 Says:

Not as hot as Erin Andrews but still smokin! Probably the only reason i tune into BSPN from time to time.

  4. SensibleBuc Says:

Sign him up. It’s all about Five.

  5. Buddhaboy Says:

She is more cute than hot. Which i think is better. One must not give in to the sins of the flesh, lord buddha.

  6. Ash Says:

Shes a lot hotter these days. I swear a few years ago shes was rocking those dark bags under her eyes like she was up all night partying.

  7. big007hed Says:

Erin Andrews is SUPER hot!! Buddha had the right breakdown she is more cute than hot….. now onto Mike Sullivan I know nothing about him so if they hire him I am all for him and if not then screw him

  8. Josh Says:

That’s funny four out of the first five comments generated more interest in her than Sullivan.

  9. bucfanjeff Says:

Don’t know much about Sullivan, so can’t comment on him. That begs the question if we will interview any Patriots staff knowing Billicheat and Schiano are pals.

  10. bucfanjeff Says:

Regardless, I still feel this is taking way too long.

  11. OAR Says:

She is a red head Drea de Matteo!

  12. Buc You 2.2 Says:

    Sullivan great news.

Rachel is actually hot not because she is great looking, but because she has that dirty lockerroom porn star look about her… as if she puts out in all 32 looker rooms.

  13. BucFan South Tampa Says:

Hey, the man has two Super Bowl rings. He probably has some game. Probably a lot more than the rest of the OCs in the NFC South. Welcome to Tampa Mike.

  14. mark2001 Says:

Agree more cute than hot, but she has a tremendous abundance of cuteness. And her cuteness is far removed from being sleazy.

But in any case, like the guys credentials….and hers.

  15. jLM Says:

Might be Shiano’s guy. Run the ball and take shots down field. Giants do pretty good job at that.

  16. eric Says:

McCoy shoulda tried to smooch her…………

  17. mark2001 Says:

    Jeff,

Get the feeling that Bellicheat will say what he honestly believes about Coach S….but to do anything that would help another coach at even a small expense to his team is something I don’t ever seeing him do.

  18. knucknbuc Says:

Rachel Nichols is more cute then hot but she’s still one of the better looking sideline reporters out there. Id still smash tho. But on to Sullivan I think this would be a great hire if it happens. Eli had a career year under him this year and id say manningham, nicks,Steve smith all turned out really good under his tutelage. I bet your our wideouts and free would be ecstatic for this hire. He’s the best candidate we’ve spoken to so far way way way better then whoop or turner.

  19. Macabee Says:

Gotta give it to them. They aren’t leaving any stones unturned!

  20. BigMacAttack Says:

Erin Andrews was at the Lightning game in New York last night, looking as fabulous as ever. Still, they all look like sisters when they’re standing on their heads.

This is like the Bad News Bucs or Amelio Estevez and his Ducks. It is such a motley crew, you really don’t know what to expect. Then you throw in a group of players that resemble the Mean Machine and all that’s missing is Burt Reynolds playing QB. Albert Haynesworth has finally reached the Promised Land, ehhhh.

The Bucs really need to draft a goalie, as many points as they gave up. And yes the Lightning need a goalie even worse.

  21. Traew Says:

If you are a perv like me and have watched HBOs “Cathouse” about the Moonlight Bunny Ranch – Rachel looks just like this chick on there.

Oh, and would love this hire. Been saying for months the Giants are the team we most resemble – and that’s not a bad thing at all I would say.

  22. 941Buc Says:

What are guys looking at? She is not that hot. Erin Andrews and Jen Brown are ten times hotter.

  23. Northend Says:

    Manningham?????

  24. Vic Says:

Joe, you have really mastered the art of blogging. Hats off to you.

  25. BigMacAttack Says:

I am also a fan of Tracy Wolfson on CBS, but Gary Danielson is an idiot and Vern Lundquist should have been put out to pasture 20 years ago. I miss me some College Football right about now.

  26. BigMacAttack Says:

There is only one true “Rachel” and we know who that is…..

Although sweet, this Nichols chick isn’t in the same league. Sorry.

  27. deminion Says:

Staff is lookin good Go Bucs!!

  28. kh Says:

    Shes sports hot at best.

  29. Buczilla Says:

I would love to have Rachel Nichols on my staff!!!

Am I allowed to say that on here? Oh yeah, and Sullivan or Wise (or both) would be great for the Bucs…

  30. eric Says:

Who gave Dominik the smart pill?

  31. HolyBuc Says:

Knowing you only get one more shot at a coaching hire=smart pill?

  32. ClayBURN94 Says:

@eric greg schiano because hes the one making the call on the coordinators lol

  33. OAR Says:

Dom’s smart pill will probablly turn out to be a placebo!

  34. big007hed Says:

Dominik will have taken a smart pill if the Bucs are active in Free Agency…. having good coaches means nothing without the talent to coach

  35. Cmurda Says:

I am going to join Joe and stare at Rachel.

  36. eric Says:

Hasnt joe been calling for these consluting type coachs ever since Rah was hired?

  37. eric Says:

Anybody ever seen Joe and Mark Dominik in the same room together?

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  38. MTM Says:

A QB coach turned into the offensive coordinator. Hmmm this sounds awfully familiar.

  39. Matthew Says:

Rachel Nichols has a busted grill, she’s cute but doesn’t do it for me. To each their own I guess.

    On to more important things:
Could be a really great hire if we get him…
    behindthesteelcurtain.com/2012/2/2/2764457/giants-quarterbacks-coach-mike-sullivan-brings-a-unique-and-fresh

  40. FlBoy84 Says:

Another interesting article about Sullivan is:

    http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2012/01/eli_manning_giants_quarterback.html

  41. ClayBURN94 Says:

@mtm but hes actually had success before. HUGE difference.

  42. bucfanjeff Says:

@Matthew & FlBoy – great articles. Dude sounds good, fresh and unconventional. I liked what I read.

  43. jimmy Says:

Mike Sullivan + West Point grad + offensive coordinator + Bucs = buh-bye Soldier Boy!

  44. FlBoy84 Says:

Think Sullivan would be an interesting hire. Add his knack for preparation and ability to think outside the box with Jimmy Raye’s vast experience and the team may just have something. Wouldn’t mind if Sullivan brought David Carr with him. Guy’s been in the league 10 yrs and would be valuable backup to Josh.

  45. Joe Says:

    Traew:

If you are a perv like me and have watched HBOs “Cathouse” about the Moonlight Bunny Ranch – Rachel looks just like this chick on there.

    Joe doesn’t have HBO.

  46. jvato24 Says:

    Flboy84

Ever seen David Carr play ??? I remember when he was with the Panthers … Had to be some of the worst QB I have ever seen.

  47. jvato24 Says:

We are neglecting two big keys here

#1 .. He was allowed to intvw
#2 .. He actually wanted to INTVW

  48. FlBoy84 Says:

    @jvato

Agree, but he proved to be serviceable when with the Giants. As Eli showed, guys can improve with coaching, and Carr has a track record with Sullivan that would be beneficial in helping convey Sullivan’s message. He wouldn’t beat out Josh for the starter’s job, but he would be a great sounding board with the experience he’s had in his 10 yrs in the league.

  49. OAR Says:

    Flboy
David “I been sacked so many times I should rule Rome” Carr?
Look, just cause he’s got a ring now, doesnt mean…..

  50. Big Picture Guy Says:

Rachel Nichols I don’t believe is the same Rachel Nichols in the playboy bunny movie. There is indeed an “actress” by the same name.

But this Rachel Nichols has always intrigued me. To me, she isn’t a classic hotty, but just has that look of like she is down for some mischievousness or something.

You can never discount that x-factor in a woman ;)

  51. Jrock(mobile) Says:

Im sure I’m not the first to say this, but I’m on the crapper at work no time to read others replies.

Joe, if you’re gonna call someone a hottie, you need a better picture to back it up. Gah

  52. AJ Says:

Rachel Nichols a hottie?? She could be Witchie Poo from HR Puffenstuffs daughter.

  53. FlBoy84 Says:

Just throwin’ a name out there boys due to his background with Sullivan. Don’t get your panties all in knots, ya might get testicular torsion. Peyton or Flynn aren’t coming, so you’ll have to chose from the remaining FA’s, which isn’t real pretty. Jason Campbell would be another intriguing pick, but I think he’ll probably look for a better chance to start.

  54. Occassionally Right Says:

Carr is still playing??? I thought he died of old age or something? ;)

    FROM GIANTS SITE
Mike Sullivan is in his second season as the Giants’ quarterbacks coach after spending the previous six years coaching the team’s wide receivers.

Eli Manning had one of the best seasons of his career in his first year under Sullivan. He led the Giants to 10 victories while completing 339 of 539 passes (62.9 percent) for 4,002 yards, 31 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. The 339 completions and 62.9 completion percentage were both franchise single-season records.

Manning’s 539 passes were the second-highest total of his career and was the fourth-highest total in Giants history. His 31 touchdown passes were the third-highest total in Giants history and the most by a Giants quarterback in 47 years.

Y.A. Tittle threw 36 in 1963 and 33 in 1962. Manning’s 4,002 yards were the fifth-highest total in the NFL in 2010. He is the first Giants quarterback with two 4,000-yard seasons.
    ————————————————————–

I like it. He’s got a ton of work in with Wide Receivers and he’s worked with Eli Manning for 2 years (not counting the time he got familiar with him while WR Coach).

Could be just what the doctor ordered!

Of course…he has not been hired yet. He might decide to turn down an offer if one is made. Truth is, Eli can make him look like a genius worthy of HC in a year or two.

Then again…if he can make Freeman into a top tier QB, that would open up doors for him as well.

    MY ONE CONCERN
Former WR Coach. Current QB Coach.

How does he feel about running the ball?

I have to say…those college hires are looking good now. We’ll have some real teachers on staff, and from the coordinators up we have experience and discipline. This does have the makings of success. Can’t wait to see it when it finishes baking!

  55. jLM Says:

Read he is a blue belt in Brazilian jujitsu. He’ll have Blount in a rear naked choke on the practice field.

  56. FlBoy84 Says:

    @jLM,
Bet he doesn’t fumble ever again. lol

  57. Meh Says:

Go get this guy. Lock him up. Would be an excellent choice.

  58. Northend Says:

I will put my vote in for michelle Beisner,Charissa Thompson or both!!

  59. FlBoy84 Says:

Is it just me or does Rachel have a little of that “morning after” look about her in that photo? She definitely has improved her look in the past year on TV and is definitely more sure of what she’s doing. Has turned into a pretty good reporter.

As a Giants fan I don’t want him to go, but if he does I wish him all the best. He has done a great job his whole time here. With the WR’s, he really did pay attention to detail. People are amazed at sideline catches made by WR’s, but the Giants put a huge emphasis on it. He had a few adept at these, in terms of Amani Toomer and Mario Manningham.

As the QB’s coach not only did he continue his approach, he had the QB’s practice all sorts of unorthodox passing situations, in addition to the norm. Eli definitely improved his play, leadership and preparation. However, Sullivan deserves credit here too. If Tampa Bay gets him, they are getting a very good coach on offense.
    —————————————————–

Interesting and encouraging. We need more info on the guy though!

  61. OAR Says:

    Flboy
Boys? You better feel again! BTW I didn’t think steel could torsion. LOL!
Seriously, the FA QBs list isn’t very good, is it? Although, some more may be added as time closes. Jason would be, but youre probablly right , plus he might not be 100% after his injury?

  62. Patrick Says:

Dont know much about Sullivan, but I HOPE we get both Wise and Butch Davis on our defensive staff! That would be perfect! They already know each other and contributed to those great Cowboy teams of the 90s!

  63. Drew Says:

Wow, oh GOD, oh GOD she’s so HOT. Ahhh! Argh! Oh GOD she’s so hot. Thump Thump Thump. Thanks for the PIC Joe.

  64. Noleriff Says:

    @ Joe

I believe TRAEW is referring to Isabella Soprano….Google image her…looks just like her….and, oh yeah….Sullivan works for me too !!

  65. OAR Says:

    Noleriff
Drea de Matteo is Isabella Soprano.

  66. Noleriff Says:

    @ OAR

    True….and while smokin hot….that ones dead lol….I like em a little warmer…

  67. Noleriff Says:

    @ OAR

…and actually she was Adriana La Cerva, not Isabella Soprano….just sayin

  68. ClayBURN94 Says:

    Wait…isabella soprano died?

  69. eric Says:

nuttin wrong within a dead one. they dont want the remote control when your done.
and u dont have to pretend to care about their opinions.

  70. Noleriff Says:

    @ eric

Damn I hate when you make a good point….

  71. buCncRazy Says:

This would be a great hire! He brings allot of knowledge and will command respect! Go s!

  72. Patrick Says:

I think the girl on “Morning Cup of Joe” today was pretty hot!

  73. MOBucs Says:

Nichols doesn’t do much for me, but hiring Sullivan would be a great move. Hopefully this staff comes together over the weekend. Combine is next week and a complete staff on the same page is important in my opinion.

  74. jvato24 Says:

I have to tweet Nichols to come here and look at all the posts about her LOL

  75. BigMacAttack Says:

OAR, Drea DeMateo from Sopranos also plays the Biotch Wife of Jax Teller on Sons of Anarchy, but she is not Isabella Soprano at the Bunny Ranch. Totally different girl, different look. Drea is slender and Isabella is a big girl with a rather large derriere.

  76. BigMacAttack Says:

I did hear that Bibi Jones is performing tonight and tomorrow night at the Tampa Gold Club. One hour show with lap daces to follow. Rob Gronkowski seemed to enjoy her.

  77. Garv Says:

    Well……..yes……
    Rachel Nichols is very hot.
    Something about her…..

  78. sandbagrudy Says:

Hey if he brings Nicks and Cruz with him things will great

  79. Drew Says:

Rachel is such a seductress. She has my vote for interviewing for both of the coordinator positions. Or is that many positions? Anyway, a well articulated article Joe and the Rachel bit drew me in hook, line and sinker.

    Go Rachel! I mean Bucs!

  80. Occassionally Right Says:

I hear one good Free Agency quarterback to bring in as a backup from Free Agency is Josh Johnson.

Seriously though…I wouldn’t mind Brady Quinn as a #3…just to see what a good QB Coach could do to turn things around for him.

Rudy may as well be our #2. Maybe he’s the next Tom Brady. heheheh

  81. McSid Says:

If we can do this along with the Davis hire and along with the Schiano hire I will be more then happy. Hell with a few good free agent signings I may even renew my season tickets.

  82. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Don’t get the Rachel Nichols being hot thing, but whatever floats your boat.

Sounds like this would be a pretty good hire. I have to admit, even I, the constant optimist, has been getting a little worried about some of the guys linked to coming here. I can’t help the fact that I feel so much more comfortable when I have actually heard of the candidate before. With the addition of Butch Davis and possibly Sullivan, I definitely feel a little better. Of course, I would actually feel better if the team would announce the hires (making it official), but I guess I can’t have everything. It really does appear that they are taking these hires very seriously and taking their time to get the right guys.

  83. Big007hed Says:

Adam Schefter just tweeted that the Bucs r going to hire Coach Sullivan for OC!!!!

  84. ClayBURN94 Says:

    They hired him!!! Wow!!

  85. Garv Says:

LOVE the Sullivan hire! Great news!
Have Rachel tweet me with her number…….nevermind….
we HAVE AN OC who fits and knows Schiano. A Super Bowl winning QB coach to work with Josh.

Got a nice smile on my face……..with or without Rachel……better with.

  86. Capt.Tim 2.2 Says:

The Davis Hire was a good, qualified coach.
The Sullivan hire( if it happens) sounds like another sound pick

I just can’t help but picturing Jimmy Raye and Schiano, as Mickey and Rocky in the Rocky movies! Probably a good thing- that many years in the NFL- can only be an asset to a young Coach.

  87. saskbuco Says:

PFT.com and Adam Schefter say its a done deal.

  88. Capt.Tim 2.2 Says:

Oh, and Red heads always get bonus points. If you’ve ever”known” one, you don’t have to ask why

  89. Matthew Says:

Awesome hire. Glazers/Dominik/Schiano played this one great, all the negativity flying around on these boards and they got a legit/unique thinker they wanted who made Eli into a Top Tier NFL QB! Go Bucs

  90. Squadoosh Says:

I’ ve never dated a redhead…and I think I am regretting it now.

  91. Big007hed Says:

I hope this hire helps Freeman reach his true potential!!!

  92. Sgt Mike Says:

Buczilla said “STAFF”. Yeah that would be cool. I think he’s going to score.

  93. Mcsid Says:

I know so many Buc fans have bitc-ed but I really
    Like the signings.

  94. 941-Bucs Says:

Dude over the last couple years the Giants have been pumping out WR’s from every where into stars. Who knew of Victor Cruz, Manningham, Steve Smith (last year)? Plus Eli has had the best year of his career. All these are plus signs for someone to take over our offense. Just saying
