Chilly Is Chilly Towards Bucs Beat Writer

January 10th, 2012

There are a few things Brad Childress is known for. One is an inability to develop a quarterback. The other is his penchant for fibbing. Another is his frosty relationship with the fourth estate or simply lack of understanding of simple media relations.

The latter trait was reinforced yesterday when Childress hung up on Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.

Chilly chilled out and spoke with Cummings today and confessed, yes, the Bucs interviewed him and, yes, the Bucs do have some talent.

“I like Josh Freeman,” Childress said. “You know, we (Vikings) ended up taking (Florida wide receiver) Percy Harvin (22nd overall) in the draft, but if Josh had come to us, it would have been hard to pass up a quarterback like that.”

Childress expressed positive impressions of the Bucs’ young defensive line and veteran offensive line, which consists of two Pro Bowlers, right guard Davin Joseph and left tackle Donald Penn (in 2010-11).

“That group of five guys is fairly solid,” Childress said of the offensive line. “The thing they have to do there is play better as one, but they have a good element of toughness.”

Joe just cannot believe the Bucs would seriously consider hiring Chilly. Just cannot. There is no reason to hire this guy if you are trying to find someone to develop Josh Freeman.

If Chilly is hired, then you can find Joe at the bottom of a bottle of Bushmills.

They shouldn’t hire him if he thinks we’re solid at all 5 positions on the line. Joseph and Penn are fine. Zuttah is a solid backup because of his versatility but shouldn’t really be starting. Trueblood’s run blocking is ok, not great but ok. His pass blocking is some of the worst in the league. And Faine is just all around terrible.

  2. Dew Says:

Couldn’t agree more Joe. Hell no.

  3. stevek Says:

No to Chilly, rather have Rah back.

Let’s see if “Chokenick” picks him up?

We should go with Schottenheimer, and even if he hasn’t ever won the big one, he is still leaps and bounds further than Dom has taken us Bucs.

Schottenheimer went 14-2 in his last year as a head coach.

    Dom’s “Talents”:

    3-13

    10-6

4-12 (and he is a rocktar?)

  4. Rican Says:

Interviews can’t hurt and dont mean anything. Till a hire is made your criticisms are a mute point.

Brad Childress lol now that would be a knee slapper. He’s not only a bad coach, he’s an a$$clown, rude, and looks like a complete weirdo (see picture at top of page). He would be perfect for the job and Mike “Gotta catch some Z’s real quick” Sherman will be perfect for us. Click the link if you don’t know what I mean with Sherman.

I don’t know if you can blame Chilly for Tarvaris. Kid was never expected to be great. Chilly burnt his bridge spending far too much time on a dud.

He would turn our OL and DL into greatness quickly.

  7. raphael Says:

what did Woody say that caused a hang up? …..

  8. Lefty Says:

Only way this guy gets hired would be due to his uncanny resemblance to any of the Glazer boys…could be ‘in the family’

  9. bucfanjeff Says:

“If Chilly is hired, then you can find Joe at the bottom of a bottle of Bushmills.” – me too, Joe, and I don’t drink.

Why did Chilly hang up on Woody?

  10. raphael Says:

Is Tony Kornheiser and Brad Childress the same person ???

  11. Macabee Says:

If I were in Brad’s shoes looking for a job, in addition to the shout out to the players, I would have said that the Glazers are wonderful owners and not cheap, Mark Dominik is the smartest guy in the world and a rockstar, and I am willing to do yard work at the Glazers on my day off!

  12. stevek Says:

Chilly should be coaching High School Junior Varsity Intramural Flag Football.

He has no integrity, and he just looks like a creeper.

  13. Bobby Says:

“Damnit Woody! If I say that Favre would be the perfect mentor for Freeman and I want to bring him back for a year or two who the hell are you to give me grief?!!? Buh bye!!”

  14. Andrew Says:

Glazers said they would spend whatever it takes to win..but win what???

Let’s get serious, he’s clearly playing rock, paper, scissors.

  17. eric Says:

Remember, these are the people that hired Morris.

  18. Tampa 2.5 Says:

Great point Eric, you never know what they could do…

Maybe ESPN will trade Jon Gruden to us for two first round picks and two second round picks?

  19. Thomas 2.2 Says:

I love how most of these clowns are ripping Childress, Marty etc yet they acted like RahRah Morris was given the job on merit.

There is no doubt that if any one of those men were coach for the last 3 years that our org would not have been ruined the way it was by a horribly incompetent coach.

  20. sandbagrudy Says:

Wow looks like Good ole Johnny Madden woke up this morning and pissed on Hugh Jacksons feet don’t stand around to long yours might be next

  21. Bobby Says:

Thomas, you shouldn’t even be allowed to comment until after the draft. You got your stocking stuffed when Raheem got fired. If they bring in the equipment manager as HC you should be happy because I remember you saying that the equipment manager would be better than Morris. This is our turn to be obnoxious now so shut your pie hole!! ‘grin’

  22. Bobby Says:

@Tampa 2.5 @ eric ….aren’t these also the same people that hired Gruden???

  23. bucfanlostiniowa Says:

that picture cracks me up, he is demonstrating something, but not rock , paper , scissors , lol

  24. Macabee Says:

Thomas 2.2, they say in Washington, DC in the Bureau of Indian Affairs there is one administrator for every indian in America. Give it up Thomas, your indian just died. Rah Rah is long gone and your schtick is old and tired. Find another platform because with each day passing your post become more meaningless. Thomas who?

  25. Bobby Says:

“See! When you can snatch the pebble from my hand like this…that’s when your QB rating goes through the roof!”

  26. ClayBURN94 Says:

Found the video of Shermans press conference adter he was fired. Listen to his last few words specifically: http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2Fmobile&gl=US#/watch?v=2kzQMWmepyw

  27. ClayBURN94 Says:

Aqib Talib needs to hear it the most…

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

    I think Chilly sucks.

Marty Schottenheimer??? Now riddle me this? The man is good coach with great knowledge and experience but……….. the man is 68 years old. That would be fine if we were in beautiful dry San Diego or Colorado… or anywhere norht of the Mason Dixon. My concern is the Summer here when it is 95 degrees with 110% humidity. The man is going to have a heat stroke. On top of that, it doesn’t get much better until December if you’re lucky. We need a middle age coach that can take the heat or they better shell out the bucks for an indoor practice facility and a dome for the Stadium. This heat is unrelenting and you can’t escape it unless you are indoors. In the cold at least you can bundle up, but in the heat, it is just plain Hell. If he can take it for one season, will he make it for 2 or more? I seriously doubt it. You can run, but you can’t hide.

  29. ATLBuc Says:

Not that I’m in support of hiring Chilly but I don’t quite get the animosity towards him. Does he not deserve some credit for developing Donovan McNabb during his time in Philly? He clearly didn’t handle Minnesota well but it wasn’t exactly an ideal situation and Josh Freeman is way more talented than Tavaris Jackson. Again, not saying they should hire him, just don’t think this amount of backlash is justified.
