Gerald McCoy Defends Shaun King

August 24th, 2011

This is beginning to become a soap opera.

Last Friday Joe was stunned at how the usual mild-mannered Shaun King went on an emotional rant while co-hosting the too-Jewish sounding “King David Show” with Toby David on WQYK-AM 1010, about how Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy needed to shutup and prove himself.

But that wasn’t all that angered King. The former Bucs quarterback, one of only three in team history to lead the Bucs to an NFC Conference championship game, seemed morally offended that GMC was joking after the game that he asked Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to slow down so the Bucs defensive linemen could catch their breath.

King continued with a sermon against GMC Monday, not wavering one bit on his initial thoughts despite widespread criticism from former Bucs players like Steve White, and many random Bucs fans.

Last night Joe documented King’s latest diatribe against GMC and, of course, many Bucs fans were outraged once again by King, both on the Internet and on Twitter.

Shortly thereafter, GMC must have gotten word of the many Bucs fans who came to GMC’s defense. In a shocking move, GMC came to King’s defense and asked fans not to mock King.

Geraldini93: Oh and I seen people coming at @realshaunking wrong. Don’t do that people. Not right. You the man Shaun. Be easy. God bless bruh.

Joe doesn’t know exactly what to write after reading GMC’s missive. The only thing that comes to Joe’s mind is that GMC is a class man.

Didnt expect anything less, when has he been disrespectful or blasted someone? He hasn’t. He doesnt need to prove anything to Shaun King, Shaun King couldnt prove anything to himself. Give Gerald time hes a beast waiting to be unleashed. Watching the 1st snap of the Patriots game him blow by Logan Mankins was a thing of beauty. (Thomas dont come crying IT WAS A TRAp, because it wasnt Mankins was chasing McCoy. They didn’t trap him until later in the game after repeated backfield disruption.)

My God, what a class act Gerald McCoy is. I did read somewhere here on JoeBucsFan that Shawn King and Gerald McCoy are talking to each other ? Something about Shawn giving Gerald “Tough Love” maybe, and GMC being Ok with it ?

  3. mikeck Says:

Shaun King needs to just let it go…..just let it go. It was a comment about a quarterback in a preseason game, and it happened to be a true comment about Brady’s speed….so what. Shaun…let it go buddy…..reeelllaaaaaxx.

  4. Dave Says:

    McCoy is the man.
I do not understand what King’s problem is. It is not like McCoy is talking trash and distracting himself from his on field goals.
He is simply talking, respectively, with fans on twitter, connecting with fans, and being honest about things (pats game).

King needs to shut it on this one. He is coming across as a bitter assss

  5. DieHard_Bob Says:

GMC is a class man and also a Christian so he knows that Shawn has a right to his opinion (no matter how misguided it might be), and has no reason to fire back at him. Shawn is just doing his job which is to stir things up when he can. I personally love GMC’s sense of humor and a young team needs to stay loose and not get down over a game like that. It has nothing to do with GMC’s commitment to winning or to the team. Lighten up Shawn . . . we still have a whole season of games that count to play yet.

Shaun King just needs to STFU. I dont understand what his problem is GMC did say a bad joke about brady. Slow down blah blah its a joke king calm the hell down. It was a bad joke I admit but thats just the type of person GMC is. Its not like he goes around claiming how hes the best DT in the league or something. What was King talking about the other day? GMC should shutup because he didnt have any pineapples (which I believe means probowls) or something of that nature. Well you and GMC have something in common King Imma tell you a secret…(Psst. YOU DONT HAVE ANY EITHER!!) Geez GMC’s coming off his injury riddled first year while you played what 5-7 in the league?

  7. Eric Says:

When they snapped that pic, was he on his way to get Brady’s autograph?

Ok, he’s classy. Now, lets shake off the goofball routine and play some good DT.

  8. Architek Says:

GMC does not have anything to do with my assessment of King’s behavior. I don’t care about Kinig’s career-much like Ruud-so I applaud his bigger man approach. King was out of line and since he so-called has NFL experience he should know that it takes more than one season to guage the productivity/talent ratio of a draft pick. So if King continues he deserves the boo birds from the fans.

  9. Dave Says:

    ERIC
There will be no “shaking off the goofball routine”, it is who he is.
Not every player has to be a complete assssssss to fans and the media like Sapp to be great.

Please Stop posting “tweets”. If I were interested in “tweets” I would have a Twitter account. I have been coming to this site for several years now and I believe you to be ruining your own website with constant twitter updates.

    Well said Dave

Joe learned something when he was a very young, neophyte sportwriter from a sage editor: “If it interests you, it will likely interest the reader.”

Joe posts what interests Joe. Given Joe’s ever-rising traffic, bordering on a consecutive record month for traffic, Joe believes he’s touched a chord with Bucs fans.

An aside: If you are not on Twitter, Joe can’t begin to tell you the information that you’re missing.

    Joe likes that!

Joe’s saying was always, “Either keep up or get run over.”

I just love GMC’s sense of humor and playfulness. Both he and Clayborn are going to be the kind of Pro you love. Guys you can send your kids up to get an autograph, and they take the time to talk to the kid. God bless’em both. I think that’s great for team and town both! I believe it’s the new era of Atheletes. How do you get fans outta their seats, and into the stands? You have intelligent. Approachable young players. Guys your kids wanna talk to, and see play in person.

Is even Shaun King Stupid enough to critize that? GMC is like a breath of fresh air here. Hope it is the beginning of a new attitude with Atheletes. As much Money as they make- what’s to be mad about? Be a human being to the people paying your salary. Then Teams would have real fan support!

  16. Hendawg Says:

You guys have to understand, King didn’t have all these social networking sites (Twitter) back is his day to even voice his opinions. McCoy has come in to a different day and age where all these “tweets” and things are the norm. Regardless, McCoy hasn’t proven himself on the field (the short time he’s been on it). He needs to Stop his Yappin and Get to Crackin…sum heads on the field!!!

  17. Joe Says:

    Good point Hendawg.

  18. thomas 2.2 Says:

Nobody will give a damn about McCoy’s cute personality or fan-friendliness if he keeps playing the same way.

  19. Espo Says:

Conflict creates ratings. Shaun King is no dummy.

GMC will kill him with kindness.

And nobody wants to hear the same old bullspit from you everyday either.

  21. BigMacAttack Says:

I didn’t read above posts yet, Sorry. It may be time for Raheem to talk to “The King”. As for GMC, all we can ask of the man is “Maximum Sustained Effort” all the time. Whatever you have in you, leave it on the field, every time. 110% and if he does that, I’ll back him all the way, sacks or not. My biggest problem with Ruud was I felt he didn’t give it all week in and week out, and that is not what an NFL MLB needs to do. Just sayin.
