Josh Freeman Just Cares About Football

May 10th, 2011

A couple of interesting items crossed Joe’s keyboard in recent days and, in Joe’s eyes, paints a largely impressive picture of Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman.

First, Joe got into a discussion about Freeman working out privately with skill position players both at USF and at the IMG headquarters in Bradenton. Unlike some NFC South quarterbacks, Freeman did not climb atop the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and yell to the hundreds of thousands of Bucs fans where and when he would be working out.

Then yesterday Joe discussed a tidbit in Peter King’s MMQB column where Mark Sanchize brought two dozen players to work out with him before Jets coaches where Freeman brought just two.

What does this tell you about Freeman?

It tells Joe that he is single-minded. Freeman just cares about football.

Yeah, sure Freeman could invite the enter Tampa Bay area to watch him and other Bucs practice at USF or a high school or a park. There is a reason why the Bucs close many practices and it’s not because they are paranoid of survellience from other NFL squads. No, practices are closed to the public because the team can get a lot of work in without distractions.

Sure, Freeman could score brownie points by having a public workout, but it seems Freeman is serious about these workouts and doesn’t want to waste his time. If he and his teammates are going to work out, it’s for and with a purpose, not a public relations stunt.

Enough already… Let’s get back to playing football. I always felt we should let all the criminals out and arrest all the lawyers. No one from amnesty international would show up then.

Joe nice article on Free, Kid has class.

I take away the exact same thing as you Joe. This guy went from me screaming at my TV in disgust when we drafted him to quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite Bucs in just two years! The scary thing is, he has weapons around him that are going to develop with him. I can honestly say I wouldn’t trade ANY QB in the league for this guy. I firmly believe that he is going to bring multiple Super Bowls to Tampa. Having Freeman on our team sure as hell beats deciding if I want Brian Griese or Luke McCown to be our starting QB.

So Sanchez brought the army of receivers with him and the Jets were impressed with that? Thank you Free for not bringing an army with you – I know it might have cost you $$$ but you don’t need that NYC atmosphere anyways.

LOL Nice political rant to start the morning.

    Arrest all the lawyers?

    Hey, wait a minute!

The owners locked out the players, the players decertified the union, and there is no CBA currently….

How come teams can not contact undrafted free agents? There is no union or CBA. They are not part of the lockout, they are just another kid done with college.

No player transactions or negotiations of any sort can be completed during the lockout. Contacting an undrafted free agent means a team is conducting a negotiation.

    Hawaiian Buc,
As usual, I agree 110% with you.

As far as the Lawyers go, can’t we just shoot em?
    Not really, just joking. Not.
