Raheem Morris Dismisses Validity Of Talib Report

May 5th, 2011

Last month St. Petersburg Times Bucs beat reporter Rick Stroud rocked NFL circles with a stunning report that the Bucs were going to cut troubled cornerback Aqib Talib over his various dalliances with the law, despite not quoting any sources.

The only reason this hasn’t happened yet, Stroud noted, was that with a lockout in place, teams cannot make any player transactions. The instant a CBA is in place or the courts ordered the NFL to reopen its doors for normal business, Talib will walk the streets amid the hundreds of thousands of the nation’s unemployed, Stroud claimed.

In various interviews since, Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik has dodged any questions related to Talib and Bucs coach Raheem Morris has sort of danced around the issue.

No more.

In speaking with Shaun King and Toby David while appearing on the all-too Jewish-sounding “King David Show” on WQYK-AM 1010 this afternoon , Morris strongly shot down any suggestion that Talib has already been sentenced by the Bucs.

Shaun King: On the Aqib Talib issue, have you heard from Roger Goodell about this?

Raheem Morris: No. We have our own discipline policy for our players and we do extra things in addition to what the NFL may do, and it’s all within the CBA. We sometimes fine people or have them sit out games or not participate in certain things. Right now the guy [Talib] has not been judged. Once he is judged, I am sure the NFL will step into play. The reports that we have already determined Talib’s future are completely false.

Whoa. No question who and what Morris was referring to there. That, my friends, is what Joe calls a shot across the bow.

Now mind you Morris didn’t say the Bucs would not cut Talib, but they haven’t decided yet, waiting until the Texas judicial system has run its course.

While Morris may have made a not-so veiled remark at Stroud and his Talib story, Talib is far from out of the woods with the Bucs.

Yet.

OK..I’ll buy into the high philosophical principles…only if it results in greater trade compensation and the AZZCLOWN never infects with his presence @ One Buc Place….

  2. Hector Says:

RostaMon, you might as well get used to him being on the team this season if he is found innocent. your only other option will be to not watch the bucs. me i am all for him being on the team.

  3. RastaMon Says:

I’ll never get used to that…Do not tell me not to watch the Bucs…I walked into the very first preseason game on a whim and have had ST’s all but a few years in the early 80’s…the first of which I was “working” in Miami…the balance starting a family….I attended games all of those years too…Talib is the proverbial “weight around the albatrosses neck”….google that

  4. Capt.Tim Says:

Rastamon- agree completely! This guy is the exact opposite of the players brought in the last two years. The thug needs ta go!

  5. RastaMon Says:

a chain…is only as strong as…..fill in the blank Hector

  6. Tuggz Says:

    “Working” in Miami? Disability fraud?

  7. FLBoyInDallas Says:

It’s “albatross around your neck”. The albatross itself doesn’t have anything hanging around it’s neck. It does the hanging…around someone else’s neck. I guess an albatross could have a smaller albatross hanging around it’s neck. That would be one hell of an unlucky bird. Nice try, though.

  8. RastaMon Says:

    same metaphor…different semantics

if Hector and Tuggz get off each others….
hell there is a chance for continuing education…and the taxpayers won’t have to shoulder any futher burden for what Hector and Tuggz missed the first time around

  9. Hector Says:

Rostamon i see its that time of the month for you. all i am saying is you don’t want to see him on the team don’t watch them. period. no one is going to force you to watch the bucs with talib on it. if it bothers you that much that he is on the team find something else to watch. no need to have you monthly friend arrive early over a few simple words.

  10. Hector Says:

if they cut him i support the team, if they keep him i support the team. either way it won’t ruin my opinion of the with if he is on the team.

  11. Hector Says:

and rostamon, i am glad that you are so educated as to insult me with out even knowing me, assuming that i am living on tax payers dime. you know what you make of yourself when you assume? tisk tisk.

  12. Patrick Says:

Can’t ever get enough BS from Stroud can we!!! We already know that none of the the Tampa sports writers are Bucs fans so let’s just dismiss these false reports!

  13. scholty Says:

So what happens if the grand jury decides not to indict Talib OR there is a trial and Talib is found NOT guilty?

    What then?

Since he is such a bad apple, he would be guilty of driving to his sisters house, when she called him in distress and trying to defend her – holding but NOT firing a weapon.

How many games would the Bucs suspend a player for defending his sister?

  14. Hire Greg Olson! Says:

    Nice try Rastamon.

People talking out of their ass. Nothing new here at One JoeBucFan Place…

  15. Tuggz Says:

Lol mine was just a simple joke. Lighten up, guy.

  16. Hire Greg Olson! Says:

This phrase refers to lines from the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, in which the eponymous mariner, who shoots an albatross, is obliged to carry the burden of the bird hung around his neck, as a punishment for and reminder of his ill deed.

Coleridge published the work in 1798, in the collection of poems that is generally accepted as being the starting point of the Romantic movement in English literature – Lyrical Ballads, with a Few Other Poems:

    God save thee, ancient Mariner
From the fiends, that plague thee thus
    Why look’st thou so ? – With my cross-bow
    I shot the ALBATROSS.

Ah. well a-day. what evil looks
Had I from old and young
Instead of the cross, the Albatross
    About my neck was hung.

“What? Is that what you do? You run around with your private school education quoting other men’s ideas. To impress girls? Show up my buddy? See, the sad thing about a guy like you is in 50 years you’re gonna start doin some thinkin on your own and you’re gonna come up with the fact that there are two certaintees in life. One, don’t do that. And Two, you dropped a hundred and fifty grand on a f****n education you coulda got for a dollah fifty in late chahges at the public library.” – Good Will Hunting

  17. Macabee Says:

There is something implied in Morris’ words, “once he is judged”. Why would you wait until someone is judged unless you thought that judgment would have some effect on your opinion. As far as Talib not being “out of the woods” with the Bucs, remember you can only run into the woods halfway – the other half, you’re running out of the woods. Talb will be back if he is not guilty.

  18. dimitrios Says:

I LOVE RAHEEM.. this man obviously wants to WIN FOOTBALL GAMES.. the nfl is going to have to take/suspend talib/tanard if you pansies want them off the team..

  19. dimitrios Says:

what in the world is wrong with having thugs on the defense?! sapp was a thug and the face of the franchise.. lawrence taylor was a thug and face of the giants (insert phil simms joke here) micheal irvin thug and hall of famer.. the article joe wrote of raheem comparing mason foster to ray lewis? guess what rayray is the thug of thugs… bottom line capt tim and rastamon…. thugs can be great nfl players too 😉

    Joe here,

Poetry, RastaMon??? Really? You’re surely one of the all-time, old-time greats commenting around here.

@All — With all the high-character guys Dominik is drafting, and all the legendary community work they’ll be doing, you’d think the team could easily absorb an “azzclown” (as he was described earlier). Besides, who better to have on the team to keep the “next-man-up” philosophy on its toes.

It’s just football. If Talib isn’t guilty, he’ll be back on the field pushing Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn to their limits, and finding creative off the field stupidity.

It’s almost comical. Talib has anger and violence issues and has obviously overcome a lot and had great drive to make it this far in his career. He’s got so many of the qualities you want in a football player — and he doesn’t make a lot of money. Seems like a great candidate to be back on the team, whether you hate him or not.

  21. dimitrios Says:

    well said joe

  22. llama palooza Says:

People need to get off aquibs back, hes great at what he does and doesnt make tackles 10 yards off the line of scrimmage(yes, im talking about ruuuuud) he played like 11 games last year with about 40 tackles… hes good!

  23. Hector Says:

man, all i said was that if it infuriates people that much to see him (talib) on the team, then find something else to do. why homie went off on me? i don’t know. Joe, my bad. didn’t mean for this thread to turn out the way it did.

  24. admin Says:

    Joe here,

@Hector, it’s all good. No problem here. I think we met on The Blackout Tour.

  25. Hector Says:

yeah we did. hopefully game don’t black out this year. but if they do i am down for more trips to ft myers to watch the game.

  26. Capt.Tim Says:

Dimitrios- what’s wrong with thugs?? Guess they are great.Travel to the poorest countries in central America, Africa, Europe, or Asia, and they all have one thing in common- thugs. The police are thugs- if someone in your family gets murdered, you gotta pay the Cops to investigate. If the Murderer has more money- you are lights luck. No need to work hard. Anything you get that’s nice will be stolen by thugs. The Goverments are run by thugs. Why? Because no one has the moral character to stand up to the thugs, and say enough. America used to be different. We used to expect men to act like Men- and have a Lil Accountability. Being a Man meant something. You represented you family, your community. Your Country. And that meant something to you. I see our soldiers fighting and dying to defend this country from terrorist/Religious Fanatics, and know this principles still exsist- to the highest standard!

Then I listen to some otherwise intelligent posters here, and am just disgusted. People willing to except any level of embarrassing behavior from a self centered criminal, because he can play a game. Derrick Brooks was a great Player- and a great Man. So is Rhonde Barber, John Lynch, Warrick Dunn, Mike Alstot, Roman Oben, and Many others. Sapp wasn’t a thug, he didn’t assault his teammates, Referrees, or get arrested while playing here. We had great players who represented Tampa with Pride.

If you are willing to suck up to this thug, and have delusions about how talented he is- be my guest. Just be careful how much you are willing to compromise your beliefs and principles. Thugs don’t just appear. People aow them to take over, because it’s easier than standing up for what you believe. But easy has a very expensive price. Maybe some of you might wanna consider the message we give the Children who will run this country someday.it might be to late already. Some people here don’t seem to believe in anything already.

Whats wrong with with thugs? I don’t want my weakness of character to allow the country to be ran by them- is that really how some of you guys feel? Anything to win a game?

  27. dimitrios Says:

you make really good points capt tim i totally agree with your take there.. i just love the bucs so much and want them to succeed so bad i dont care about what these dudes do off the field.. these dudes arent role models they are athletes playing a mans game.. firefighters, soldiers, doctors, and teachers are heros and role models.. those are the professions we have no room for thugs in

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

Nothing gets swept under the rug anymore, and it really is too bad. I judged Aqib by the first report, which is a problem with today’s instant media. Yea he’s a real so-n-so based on all of his past transgressions alone, but I wish I had never heard of this incident before it was adjudicated. Maybe I’m a flip-flopper but at least I’ll admit it. I still would classify him as a “Thug” but I am starting to think he may walk out of this, as more information has been discovered. If he walks, there is absolutely no reason why he should be suspended or fired, and if Raheem wants him, I hope he keeps him, but get the young man some serious help and fast. Just saying.

  29. Matthew levanduski Says:

Aqib Talib will own Roddy White for the next two years, and Julio for the next decade!

  30. OAR Says:

Albatross? Wasn’t that what Monty Python was trying to sell from an ice-cream cart? Albatross?

    What flavor is it?
It’s a bloody sea-bird, it ain’t got no bloody flavor!
Do I get waffers with it?
Course you don’t get bloody waffers with it!

  31. Pete Dutcher Says:

If the Bucs get on Hard Knocks, I bet they’ll keep Talib. It would provide Morris with the perfect opportunity to show how he works with troubled players.

  32. Joe Says:

    Pete:

If the Bucs are on Hard Knocks Joe would be shocked if the Bucs granted HBO producers access to Talib (provided he is even on the team) for a number of reasons. The only reason the Bucs want to do this is to market their players. The absolute last guy the Bucs — or the NFL — want to market is Talib.

Besides, Talib is not a friend of the fourth estate in any way, he’s borderline hostile to the press. Put a camera in his face, no telling what he will do.

Talib being hounded by HBO cameras is a disaster waiting to happen.

It would be great TV, but the Bucs and the NFL would be aghast at the results.

  33. Capt.Tim Says:

Demitrios- I hear you. I love the team too! And want to see them win with a team we are all proud of. And we Can! As far as role models, you every seen a kid wear a cop’s jersey? Or a Soldier’s? I wish they were our kids role models, but it’s really the NFL players. I understand how you feel, I don’t want to lose good players either! But remember, our good guys aren’t gonna want to put up with his nonsense either. It can tear a locker room apart. We both want the team to succeed, they are drafting high character Guys. We font want one bad apple to ruin the rest

  34. Capt.Tim Says:

So we would have to” hide” Talib from the media, so that he doesn’t humiliate himself, the Team, and the NFL. . . .

Are you guys who support this loser really listening to this stuff? You really are crying to keep the thug on the team?

    It’s just sickening.
