Mark Dominik Reacts To Aqib Talib Charge

March 29th, 2011

Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik issued a quick, two-sentence reaction to the news that Bucs cornerback Aqib Talib was issued an arrest warrant on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony in Texas.

“We are deeply troubled by the serious charges filed against Aqib Talib. Due to current labor circumstances, we will withhold any further comment or action.”

As Joe noted earlier, if convicted on this charge, Talib is facing a minimum of five years in the hole.

Rest assured this has also caught the attention of NFL warden commissioner Roger Goodell, who will have the final say if Talib plays another game for the Bucs while awaiting trial.

  6. gitarlvr Says:

Ummm….I don’t think the organization will wait for Goodell to rule before deciding Talib won’t be playing for them next year. I’ll be shocked if they don’t cut him.

  7. gitarlvr Says:

    @HGO- LMAO!

  8. Jacob Says:

Man Talib was such a star I just feel bad to see such a good player go down like this really hurts 🙁 Jacob the. #1 Bucsfan in Canada!

  9. RastaMon Says:

the guy will NEVER play again in the NFL….
get over it….the guy is nothing !

  10. Josh Says:

Well, the Bucs are a great organization! First we have the holier than holy Shelton Quarles, who is supposed to be the biggest philanthropist in the Tampa area getting busted for a DUI, now Aquib pistol whipped and shot at someone? My question is that how does Shelton get off so easy? Why, because he raises money for the community? That’s his get out of jail free card? This guy professes to be a family man, and a man of God, and he is hanging out in South Tampa at 2 AM! I am sure that allot of churches are serving wine and communion at that hour.

  11. RastaMon Says:

Quarles…gee…responsible citizen driving(LATE @ Night)…probably quite able to navigate his way home without getting into and accident/incedent.
    Talib….acting up..loud and agressive,once again,this time not only bradishing a gun..getting into a fight….then grabbing gun#2 and firing it at the person

  12. NickinMelb Says:

To equate Shelton Quarles DUI and Aqib Talib shooting at a man running from him is a joke. Come on man, Shelton never hurt the Bucs and Josh if you have ever driven after two beers you are just as guilty. Not that Shelton was right but to lump him with Talib the gangsta is a complete joke. To all who lump Mike Williams and L Blount in the same group I am laughing at you too. Talib is gone good riddance. Lets stop the comparisons.

Don’t get too overwrought with this legal action. There’s a saying “A grand jury will indict a ham sandwich”! Nothing is going to happen soon. The lawyers will take it from here and this will take the better part of a year to resolve. Until then, Talib is an innocent man. I know it looks bad but he didn’t rape a woman; he didn’t kill a man; and he didn’t kill any pets. There are revered men at the top of this league that have done worse. Believe it or not, there is a silver lining here – It didn’t happen during a playoff run; it happened prior to the draft; prior to free agency and during a lockout. THe Bucs are in a position to make this transparent with little or no impact. They may have to adjust their draft board after the 1st round; they have 4 or 5 excellent alternatives in free agency; 2 or 3 much improved CBs on the roster and enough draft picks and salary cap room to adjust quite well. They should put Talib on the reserve/suspended list until this is resolved and who knows as Talib walks off the field maybe T-Jack walks on. Talib is only 25 and has trade value. If I had to bet, this gets pleaded into a couple of lesser charges because he has a strong self-defense case. So let’s not fret too much, time has a way of wearing rough stones smooth.

  14. NickinMelb Says:

Macabee I disagree the guy shot at a man. Thats nothing to laught at. Plus he just plead out of an assault charge less than a year ago. He has a long history. His only saving grace was that he was defending his sister which I can understand. I think public outrage will force the Bucs to dump him and thats not even talking about the lengthy suspension Goodell will impose. This guy is done in Tampa and he probably has little trade value. The Talib era is over and I really had nothing against him until I read the account of what he did in that cab. Check it out sometime, the guy is a thug and hit that cab driver for a few laughs. Thats pretty sick in my book and now this.

  15. Braheem Ackmadia Says:

Sounds like Colorado’s Jimmy Smith just got removed off the Bucs Draft Board. Maybe they’ve taken their last gamble on players with a track record of violence/police issues.

  16. Macabee Says:

Nick, I can’t defend Talib’s actions off-field, past or present. But I know how the law works and what an expensive NY lawyer will do with it. Talib will be able to plead out because of intent. He will say he never intended to shoot anyone and only used the gun as a blount object to defend his sister. When the gun fell to the floor and the boyfriend picked it up, he then became the imminent threat giving Talib and his mom the legal right to defend themselves. There is no video tape and since blood runs thicker than water, you know how this story will be told. When the boyfriend picked up the gun and attempted to shoot Talib, the gun misfired and mom fired three warning shots to scare off the boyfriend. When the boyfriend ran, mom tossed her gun to Talib who ran to the door and fired two warning shots to ensure the threat did not return. You see, nobody was shot even at close range and Talib’s gun was never fired. The boyfriend has a criminal background including the sexual assault of a 14 yr old girl and will be attacked on his veracity. Talib will never be sent to jail. What the Bucs do with him is another matter.

  17. eric Says:

Expensive NY lawyers don’t work in Texas, my friend.

He better get a local good ole boy for this thing.

  18. Dylan Says:

Gotta agree with Macabee, My grandfather is the chief judge of sarasota county and with a good lawyer anything can happen.. Talib was my favorite player on the bucs and he will be missed. I really hate saying this but he is gone. But im one person to say if the charges with talib were dropped and the bucs didn’t cut him I would still defend talib. What would you guys do if a punk with sexual assault charges was messing with your sister? yes he has a criminal back ground but still this is completely different its family. is a gun a right way to solve it? by far no. but still none of us were there so only talib his mother sister and the rapist boyfriend know.

  19. BamBamBuc Says:

What would I do if it was my sister??? Well, the first thing I’d do is ask my sister what the HECK she was thinking getting involved with a loser like that. Why was she slumming it outside the jailhouse? And what’s it gonna take to knock some sense into her? Then I’d kick the guys ass for even threatening to lay a finger on my sister…

  20. Joe Says:

What would I do if it was my sister???

As BamBamBuc has inferred, this is an asinine argument.

There’s a thing called 911. You dial it and cops magically show up.

We live in the 21st century. This is not the wild west. This is not 1940s Brooklyn and the mob. When you are making millions of dollars a year and on the cusp in a couple of short years to make tens of millions of dollars, you don’t act like a common street thug. Vigilante justice is a thing of the past.

Explain which is the right thing to do: pistol whip and try to shoot a piece of human debris or call 911 and in the process, secure your professional job where you can make millions of dollars to make your sister more than comfortable the rest of her life?

Yeah, Talib did the right thing. The right thing for an imbecile.

The people that boast they have or would manhandle a guy in this case clearly don’t have tens of millions of dollars to piss away by playing Chuck Norris.

This is real life, not Hollywood.

It’s one thing to punch a guy. It’s quite another to fire a gun at him. What exactly was Talib trying to accomplish by doing that? He certainly wasn’t shooting a BB gun.

  21. Fire Greg Olson! Says:

Macabee watches too much Law and Order.

  22. Alex Says:

Greg Olson you don’t want enough lol, yeah we live in the 21st Centuary Joe. But people react different especially built with your size and childhood. He is wrong but it’s family and he was protecting sister so let him
And his family react how they want it’s not us and we weren’t there so we don’t know
Every detail to why a gun was pulled. Maybe the guy was threatening to go get his gun.
