Aqib Talib “Person Of Interest” In Shooting

March 28th, 2011

Bucs cornerback Aqib Talib is named by police in Texas as a “person of interest” in a shooting.

Per the Dallas Observer, Talib was involved in an ugly domestic incident last week.

After a March 21 altercation involving his sister, his mother, his sister’s boyfriend, two guns and at least five shots fired, former local high school football star and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ cornerback Aqib Talib is a “person of interest” on a Garland Police Department incident report and, pending an investigation, could be arrested and charged with anything from discharging a firearm within a municipality (class A misdemeanor) to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (second-degree felony).

According to a GPD initial report about the incident and two sources familiar with the case Talib allegedly attempted to pistol-whip his sister Saran’s boyfriend, Shannon Billings, and then, after a struggle, used his mother Okolo’s pistol and fired several shots at Billings as he fled the scene on foot.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Garland Police Department administration supervisor Captain Patrick McCulley told the Observer on Friday. “But I can confirm that Mr. Talib is a person of interest in the case.”

Joe hates to say it but something like this coming from Talib isn’t exactly shocking. Surprising, but not shocking.

Looks as though the Bucs will find out first hand if Roger Goodell can actually enforce his player conduct policy during a lockout as he claims he can.

Per the police report via the Dallas Observer, it paints a disturbing image.

According to the report, Billings said Aqib produced a handgun and “attempted to strike him in the face.” During the ensuing skirmish Talib dropped the gun and Billings picked it up and began runnning, prompting Okolo to produce a gun and fire three shots toward him. Billings told police that Talib then took Okolo’s gun, said “I’ll shoot him” and fired at least two shots before Billings safely ducked into nearby woods. Neighborhood witnesses corroborated Billings’ story.

Always the hard way with this kid. This may be the straw that broke the camel’s back.
What next? Oh yeah, more Thomas BS and hate.

    DANG……Commish, update your draft boards!

  7. bradenton bucs fan Says:

since this happened during the lockout, can he still be disiplined by the league? sad that this happened just another blow to the d side of the ball

  8. Derf Says:

Damn guys – right away you start slamming Talib. I seem to remember lots of people saying negative things about Mike Williams when HE was arrested and look how THAT turned out!!!!!

Now not knowing the whole story and just reading what Joe(s) wrote I notice that the ‘perp’ got away – so apparently Talib missing hitting the guy with the gun/bullets.

Lucky for that guy Talib didn’t have his helmet handy – otherwise the perp may have gotten beaten to a pulp.

Hey Joe any new/interesting revealations like: Was the guy a taxi driver? 😉

  9. Micheal Says:

I will reserve my comments; I will wait for the final reports of the gpd.

  10. Bucs4ever Says:

my money is on Joe jumping on the Asomugha wagon now!
C’mon Aqib!!! Stay out of frikin trouble!

  11. RemyBuc31 Says:

From the article: “while interviewing him, officers discovered Billings was a suspect in two pending, related, family-violence offenses involving Saran and arrested him.” Saran being Aqib’s sister and Billings being the guy he allegedly shot at. Tell ya what, if someone beat up my sister once I’d shoot him. Twice? Game over.

  12. LaughingCat Says:

This must run it’s course. Could be self-defense or an act to stop the commission of a felony. However, it does not bode well that Talib has his own history of bad decisions.

One does have to wonder, what is going on with the Buc’s security detail. Aren’t they supposed to be further up a questionable player’s arse when it comes to personal conduct?

One thing is for sure. Gruden and Allen are smiling. They always loved the tough guys and questionable characters.

It sounds like a possible domestic violence case between his sister and her boyfriend. I couldnt think of another reason for someone to shoot a gun at someone else and I’m assuming he just happen to know where his mom kept her gun or did she give it to him….sounds like an episode of cops.

  14. HFXBUC Says:

cut him and let him go hang out with Jeremy Stevens! Two dirt bags.

  15. Derf Says:

This is the last paragraphs from the article:

“The severity of Talib’s latest trouble will come down to a determination by Garland police of whether he was shooting at Billings, simply firing in the air to scare him, or even shooting at all.”

Scarey thought isn’t that…I hope those police officers aren’t related to the a-hole officer who pulled Mike Williams over!

The suspect in this case is a total dirtbag.

Goodell claims yes. The NFLPA claims no since there is no CBA in place.

  17. Alex Says:

How could Billings know that Talib was firing the shots when he was running AWAY from the scene? One sided story here.

  18. Jo Mama Says:

Aqib Talib The Elijah Dukes of the Bucs

I guess the apple does not fall that far from the Tree.

It looks likes Aqib Talib’s football skills are getting soft…..known for his good hands…he was unable to maintain control of his gun while he was pistol whipping his sister’s boo…

Have no fear…when Aqib Talib lost possesion of his Pistol his Mama was right their to have his back and she threw her own Hand Gun “John Woo Style” to Talib…

Aqib Talib turn his Mama’s gun sidwise and emptied a clip, while yelling….”I’s Keep’s it Real”….

    What the F@ck

Do the bucs not have quality control people to beat into the head of their players, they have been given the gift from god to be a pro football player and all the benefits which go with it not to screw around an act like a thug.

I can accept a player missing a season due to injury but for something like this is unacceptable.

All the more reason why we need to Draft Kyle Rudolph – we need to class up this organization.

  19. Steve From Oregon Says:

Jo Mama…..thank you for bringing some humor this situation…I can actually hear his voice saying I keeps it real….too funny.

  20. Architek Says:

    – Thank God for Ronde
-Thank God for our position in the draft to get a solid starting caliber CB early
    – It appears the statement of the hood stay inward no matter where you go
    – Asomugha should be on Dominik speed dial
    – We still can get the DE’s we need

The franchise cannot risk another doe doe bird incident in the middle of the season. I wouldn’t cut him but he wouldn’t qualify as a long-term plan player. Talib is a piece of work and I am sick of his whiny a$$ voice and antics. Players like him deserve to be locked out.

  21. Derf Says:

Jo Mama asked, “Do the bucs not have quality control people to beat into the head of their players, they have been given the gift from god to be a pro football player and all the benefits which go with it not to screw around an act like a thug.”

You can take a kid out of the hood but you can’t take the hood out of the kid!

It’s nature vs. nuture. Talib was back where he was growing up. After reading the report I was confused as to what ‘actually’ happened but the main issue is this – why put yourself [Talib] in that situation in the first place?

The most shocking thing in the report was that Talib DROPPED his gun and allowed the suspect to pick it up! I think the Bucs should fine him for THAT right there!

  22. MOBucs Says:

With 20th pick of 2011 NFL draft, the Bucs select Jimmy Smith, CB from Colorado!

  23. WeNeedDefense Says:

LMAO… Dumb ass. Looks like Raheem keeps letting his guys do ‘whatever’ they want.

  24. WeNeedDefense Says:

    Exactly!!!

“- Asomugha should be on Dominik speed dial”

  25. eric Says:

“person of interest” = we havent gotten around to arresting him yet.

What is with these people? How many now have pissed away the big pro carreer?

Absolutely idiotic behavior, why did he have a gun on him to begin with? Pistol whipping? shooting? In Texas?

    Id be heading to Panama.

  26. Architek Says:

Jimmy Smith is cut from the same clothe so thats a no-go, Tampa better make a play in FA and acquiring Asomugha will send a stern message to Aqib and T-Jack.

Joe, how about that, maybe Peter King was right after all or maybe King was the alleged boyfriend messing with Aqib’s sister. Or maybe the Dixie Chix Roddy White hired the man to get at Aqib’s sister to get him suspended so that he could have a 100 yard game against the Bucs without the help of the official’s.

  27. IMHO... Says:

Current Bucs= Late 80’s/Early 90’s Univ of Miami

  28. Kevin Says:

Are you listening to yourselves? There is no way to justify this THUG behavior. Maybe he was just shooting in the air…What? Bullets go up and they must come down, maybe onto a playground where kids are playing. I cant even fathom Brookes, Barber, A-Train, Lynch or even Sapp carrying on like this. Im just about done with the Bucs and the entire NFL.

  29. Pete Dutcher Says:

There sure is an aweful lot of panic in these comments.

I’ll withhold my opinion until more facts are known.

  30. BigMacAttack Says:

In Texas it is recommended that when you shoot someone outside the house, that you should quickly drag them back inside, and claim self defense.

I wonder why Talib’s momma didn’t say that she was the shooter. This is Rule #7 in “Thug Momma’s Survival Guide”. Mom v Gangsta, mom always wins. Talib is one BadA$$ dude, stupid, but bada$$.

How do you miss someone several times? Pathetic. This is why God made shotguns. Number one for in home protection. I guess his momma should have set up some cans for him behind the barn when he was growing up, like the rest of us rednecks. Missing your target, that’s the real crime here.

  31. Weneeddefense Says:

Momma vs Gangsta, mamma always wins.

LMAO!!!!!! That is some funny shizzle.

  32. BennySaxon Says:

So dude pistol whipped a guy, dropped his gun. Guy takes off and Mama pulls a piece out of her muumuu and starts blasting? Sounds like a SNL skit…

  33. NickinMelb Says:

The problem with this whole thing is its another T-jack incident where it will be midseason and then we will lose our starting cornerback. We need to turn the page on these guys. We cannot throw another season into jeopardy like we did with T-jack. Aqib apparently just does not get it and never will. If Dom understands character he will give up on this bum now.

  34. D Says:

To the doubters: Look, I love the current Regime and I believe in Raheem Morris. And even more so in Mark Dominik. Just saying, I’m not one of those who leaps in and attacks just because it’s a negative and I’m hoping to bring back Gruden.

And when Mike Williams got hooked, I reserved judgement. Turned out, he’s still a good kid.

Aqib is an idiot. It’s only a matter of time with him, period. If this goes away, something else will come up– he has no self control and he’ll hold us back.

He’s a great CB and maybe we could trade him at a very high value but this stuff can not stand in a young, Championship-calibre team.
