What Will Peter King Watch Sunday?

October 15th, 2010

Some suggest Peter King has the best gig in the country. He gets flown to New York to feed his face on Dick Ebersol’s dime in Manhattan each Sunday while watching all NFL games at once and then gets to babble about them hours later.

That’s not Joe’s kind of fun, sans the free grub. Joe can’t even watch the Red Zone Channel (way too ADDish for Joe). Joe can handle watching two games at once on his two TVs, but six (in one screen) or bouncing from stadium to stadium every 20 seconds makes Joe want to inhale Dramamine.

Today on SI.com, King explained what he will be watching Sunday on his many TV screens at 30 Rock. One of those screens will have the Saints-Bucs game.

10. The Bucs try to slay the Big, Bad (and Flawed) Saints. In the last eight quarters, the Saints watched teams quarterbacked by Jimmy Clausen and Max Hall outscore them 44-36. Now comes 22-year-old Josh Freeman, who is Johnny Unitas in experience compared to those two guys. And Freeman won’t be scared of anything Gregg Williams throws at him. Amazing to think Tampa Bay could be a game-and-a-half up on the Saints, with a tiebreaker edge too, by 4 p.m. Sunday.

Joe believes the Bucs will have to play their best game of the season to win Sunday. If someway the Bucs win, all you Bucs fans who curled up into a fetal position sucking your thumb wondering why those outside the Tampa Bay region wouldn’t waste 20 seconds on a sad sack team better watch out.

With a win Sunday, the Bucs will become the talk of the NFL.

This is the litmus test the rest of the league and media is using to see if we are for real or not.

Hell this is the Litus test WE Buc fans need to see if we are for real, or just beating up bad to so-so teams.

  2. brett Says:

would be amazing. To me that cinci win was hard to believe…a saint win would be truly unbelievable. Seems almost impossible.

  3. JDouble Says:

Sure hope Mike Williams is good to go. As of now he is a game time decision.

  4. sunrisejeff Says:

I think he’ll be fine to go personally JDub…….although this game will rest on our defenses shoulders for a W I believe. If we can get some much needed pressure on Brees and not let him sit in the pocket all day we can have some success. Tough D and getting some production out of the run game will be the keys imo.

  5. josh Says:

Great site you got runnin here Joe keep it up, way better than TBO or the st pete times

  6. Jerry Says:

If the Bucs win, the media will just say, “The Bucs beat a Saints team without Bush or Thomas.”

  7. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Joe,

Love your site, definitely my favorite. However, I think I just lost a little respect for you with your opinion of the Redzone Channel, lol. Come on, man! When the Bucs aren’t playing, what’s better than watching commercial free football and not missing one score or big play? You feel like you have watched every single game. It’s so much better than having to watch the damn Cowgirls every week.

  8. Larry Says:

Sounds like PK is giving the Aints billboard fodder to make his 20 – 12 pick pan out. How does one figure 20 – 12 anyways? Saints 2 TD’s and 2 FG’s? Buc’s 4 field goals or 1 TD, 1 FG and a safety? I wouldn’t want to plan on paying my mortgage by using PK’s picks with my bookie!
Oh yeah, I share your opinion about the Red Zone Channel – too much flashing around – I watch the Buc’s then during commercials I click on Game Mix to see whats happening else wheres! Works for me.

  9. OAR Says:

HawaiiBuc, Aloha! I have to agree that Red Zone is perfect for watching every score(with a replay re-cap of all TDs that Sunday @ the end of day) and every big play or drives.

Joe, You know I love your site, bro! Keep it up!

  10. bucsrthebest Says:

It pisses me off that Max Hall got ROW over Williams!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. OAR Says:

Eh, to each their own, I guess?
    BTW Go Bucs!

  12. Patrick Says:

Truth is, the people that talk crap about the Bucs don’t even know anything about the Bucs. They’ll say idiotic things like “we’re the worst team in the league”. Though if they were actually INFORMED by BSPN (yes, it’s definitely BSPN) and knew what the hell they were talking about, people would obviously see that we’re no where close to being the worst team in the league. And it’s true. Right now, we’re a good team.

People watch ESPN and NFL Network all time to get the latest coverage and news. Their opinions on the Bucs will be shaped by what the analysts have to say. They trash the Bucs all the time, therefore the fans and general public will trash them as well. Credit should be given when it is deserved. When the NFL Network guys were having a discussion regarding the Bucs Saints game earlier this week, they were unbelievable. They kept laughing in shock that the Bucs were 3-1 and acting almost as if they’re not even part of the NFL. Rude as hell. They treat the Lions and the Bills a lot better than the Bucs.

I think all Tampa fans knew we had a shot of being a good team this year when they looked at the added talent and most notably the schedule. The sports analysts didn’t think that because they definitely don’t know as much as the Tampa fans do about the team and do no research. In their minds, they probably just think “It’s the Bucs. How could they ever be good? If they start out with a good record, it would be so unreal!”

    Josh:

    Thanks!

    Hawaiian Buc:

Sorry, the Red Zone Channel is not Joe’s cup of tea. Joe likes to watch games. Red Zone Channel is just highlights.

Joe does, however, enjoy NFL Shortcuts on DirecTV, each game whittled down to 30 minutes.

  14. OB Says:

Nobody has realized that with Bennett/Crowder at DE, our pass rush just jumped up and with Jeremy at center I believe we have improved there either because Faine was playing hurt or not playing well. The receivers are catching the ball and making plays with a gunslinger at QB. I think everyone is going to be suprised because they believe and Rhonde breaks the record this Sunday. Well I have a great PC and a very fast internet to watch the game.

  15. Patrick Says:

The Saints are definitely beatable. They barely won against an awful Carolina team

    +1

  17. Pete 422 Says:

The Bucs beat a Saints team last year that won the super bowl. The Bucs are a better team this year, so I won’t be surprised if they do win. Peter King better keep a good eye on 22 year old Josh Freeman Sunday.

Not a must win, BUT if the Bucs do win, what a confidence boost going into 4 games against lesser teams than the Saints.

  18. snook Says:

The bucs will not be the talk of the NFL if thry beat the Saints. It’ll just be “what’s wrong with the Saints?”

  19. Pete 422 Says:

    Sadly, I agree with snook.

The Bucs will have to win a playoff game this year to be taken seriously.

It will be ‘What’s wrong with _______” “The Bucs easy schedule” etc.

  20. ac3 Says:

Im in college in indiana and since I can’t watch bucs games legally, my roommates and I literally sit on the couch for 7 straight hours watching redzone, its unreal…especially for fantasy owners, go bucs

  21. BucsinNorthCali Says:

I live in the Oakland/San Fransisco bay area, I’m hearing from Raider and Niner fans that we are fakes and that we would lose to both of those teams….they also say that Freeman is just JaMarcus Russell part 2….like you guys have said above no one has a clue about this team….they think Mike Williams went to USC…..I told anyone who would listen to me last Dec that we would beat the Saints, we did…and then I spent the entire Saints playoff run telling everyone that the Saints better enjoy this now because next year we were taking this division and the league by storm..and that we would win the South…..don’t let me down boys !!!!! Go Bucs….oh and for fun go SF Giants !!!

  22. Eric S Says:

I don’t need to see Peter King dressed like that anymore. This is going to give me nightmares.

  23. Pete 422 Says:

@BucsinNorthCali: I have a buddy in San Francisco who is a HUGE NFL fan as well as a 49ers fan. He is impressed with the Bucs and especially Mike Williams. It sounds like your friends aren’t very astute football fans.

We’ll see in a few weeks what happens when the Bucs travel West to take on the 49ers. Before the season, I was a bit concerned how well the young Bucs will travel out there, but I’m less concerned now. Hopefully the team is in a good place at that point in the season.
