Mike Williams Far Ahead Of Other Rookie WRs

October 13th, 2010

mike williams 0822It doesn’t take a guy running around with a white cane to see that Bucs rookie wide receiver Mike Williams is a helluva player. Even Joe can tell.

Well, just how good of a rookie is Williams? eye-RAH! Kaufman, of the Tampa Tribune, has some evidence, as he posted on the TBO Bucs Twitter feed just how solid of an NFL start Williams has had.

According to the Bucs, 27 WRs were drafted in 2010. Tampa Bay’s Mike Williams has 3 TD catches — the other 26 have combined for 1.

That’s pretty damned impressive. Joe can’t imagine what Williams will be like with Freeman in, say, two years.

Now if the Bucs can only get a decent running back in the draft soon.

It is very nice and fun to watch, but I will try to stay level headed and not expect too much. Clayton and his rookie year kinda scarred me for life.

    @JDouble
diddo, lol. I’m excited, but I have to curb it. Thanks Clayton.

(Me with fingers crossed) Mark Ingram! Mark Ingram!

  4. bucfanjeff Says:

We can all see the Williams is no Clayton – not even close.

  5. JDouble Says:

Really bucfanjeff? Perhaps you should go back and watch Clayton’s rookie year. He was just as impressive and nobody had any idea he’d be a sloth for the rest of his career. I’m not saying Mike Williams will do the same thing, but to say everyone can see he isn’t another Clayton is kinda stupid. You’d have to be able to see the future to know that. Best we can do is enjoy it while it lasts and hope it lasts a long time.

  6. d-money Says:

I’m sorry JDouble I have to disagree. I watched Clayton in his rookie year and he was pretty awesome but his presence on the field was nothing like what this kid has.

You can watch this guy and see that he is no joke. He is going to be good for a long time.

my two cents… the diference between mike will and handstone clayton was the QB, williams is growing with one QB and thats huge, add the new regime of coaches, malyton was in the doghouse by gruden, mike is oficially the best weapon years to come that will give to free, also, when arrelious benn (the forgotten WR for all the majority) begins his way that would be double fun!!!! two great weapon plus K2 and u have DYNAMITE!!!!

for the RB, i guess we dont need the best RB Ever, we need good overall RB, so maybe if we get Blount and Huggins the chance to carry the ball and be on field more time we can get something interesting, and conserve the Picks of the draft for MLB OL and SS

Clayton was a early first round pick and a instant millionaire. He came from a football family name on top of being from a championship program at LSU . Oh and he had the reputation coming out of college of dropping balls.

    Jeff is dead-on, no comparison.

Every WR thinks they can be the best in the league ,unlike Clayton, Williams actually can be .

Only in Clayton’s wildest dreams could he run with Williams.
Rookie year to rookie year the speed difference alone puts them in two separate categories.

  9. CreamsiclePasties Says:

    Jacquizz (with two Z’s) Rodgers

Joe, if they do nab him…..there’s your nickname. Seriously, is the second Z really necessary?

Joking aside, they need to add an explosive “can score everytime he touches it” type of back…..one explosive back paired with Blount and we could have our 2 backs set for a few yrs

  10. JimBuc Says:

Further proof that Dominik is an idiot! Oh . . . . wait . . . strike that.

  11. JimBuc Says:

JDoub — no comparison between the two. Clayton was the default, only option during much of his rookie year. Williams is the first option, by choice.

  12. JDouble Says:

I’d sure like to see if Huggins can be that explosive “can score everytime he touches it” back to pair with Blount, before we go using a draft pick on Noel Devine. It’s been a year and a half in thw waiting and last week Huggins got one carry for four yards. For gawds sake get this guy involved already! If not running the ball, use him on some screens or change formations at the line and have him move into the slot. Just USE HIM already.

Mike Williams is a freak. What a steal. If K2 can continue to perform in spite of the knee issues and Benn can continue to grow into his role, we should have a pretty good passing game with Freeman pulling the trigger. Not to mention Spurlock who I believe is really under rated as a wide receiver. If we could figure out how to run the ball, then we could really have an offense to reckon with.

  14. Capt.Tim Says:

Offfense is exciting already, and getting better every week! I don’t ever remember having this Many young, talented offensive players to get really excited about. And that’s not even counting if Blount or Desmon Briscoe also have a break out! Man- great time to be a Buc Fan!!

  15. BigMacAttack Says:

Benn & Stroughter are pretty promising too. Stovall and Spurlock can also catch the ball and play special teams. I don’t see WR as a weakness on this team.

Cappy, it is exciting with all the youth and anything can happen with these guys right up to the final second of the game. All but a couple of NFL teams would have capitulated with 2 minutes left and down by 7 against the Bengals. No timeouts, no margin for error and WTF? Amazing! They came back and won with daring plays, and perfect play, in the clutch. It may give you heart failure but it really doesn’t get any better than that. If I was Sean Payton, I’d be worried.

  16. Posey99 Says:

Noel Devine is more like a Darren sproles back with a touch of warrick Dunn minus the mouth full of gold teeth- He’s from the same town I live in. Demarco Murray is the man we need, if Huggins doesn’t turn out to be the guy we think he can be. Patrick Peterson cb or a DE. I have a feeling that Mikewill will be a lot better than he is now and will continue to get better with time catch passes from Freeman. He has the it factor about him that u just know he’s going to be really really good

  17. Patrick Says:

“Now if the Bucs can only get a decent running back in the draft soon.”

Yeah, well unfortunately we STILL don’t even know what we have in Kareem Huggins. Same goes for Blount.

Make Graham the #1 back! He’s the best one we have and he’s proven he can get the job done before!

  18. Joe Says:

    Posey99:

Seriously doubt Dominik picks up Noel Devine. To say Devine has a chequered past is being polite. That’s usually not a guy Dominik spends a high draft pick on.

  19. Posey99 Says:

Joe, I agree. I mention Devine because of the previous comments. Murray is a stud, but had some injury issues- I think he will turn into a hell of a nfl back. Would prefer huggy or Blount trn out to be better than serviceable.

  20. Paul Says:

It’s not our running backs, its the o-line and scheme we got.

  21. Capt.Tim Says:

I don’t care if we see Huggins or Blount this year( even though I really want to!), as long as we keep winning!! Don’t fix it if we are winning. It’s a loping season for the players. In sure both backs will get some time before it’s over!
