“What’s Wrong With The Bengals?”

October 10th, 2010

Joe’s annoyed.

As Joe loves to do, Joe watched the NFL Gameday Highlights show on NFL Network, hosted by Rich Eisen, Deion Sanders and Steve Mariucci. Each game has lengthy extended highlights shown and the trio talk about the meaning of it all.

So the show gets to the Bucs-Bengals game, and “What’s Wrong With The Bengals?” flashes up on the screen and stays there for a few minutes.

Sanders, Mariucci and Eisen then proceed to discuss the game and breakdown the highlights and give the Bucs no credit for the win and hang it all on the Bengals’ ineptitude.

The only positive Joe heard about the Buccaneers was Mariucci praising Sabby Piscitelli’s runback and Sanders saying “nice catch” after Micheal Spurlock’s tightrope reception to set up the winning field goal.

Joe gets that the Bengals choked the game away in epic fashion and that Cincinnati was a playoff team last year with lofty goals. But to have the 3-1 Bucs portrayed as an afterthought is just shameful coming from the NFL Network. Joe usually only expects this kind of one-sided crap from BSPN.

Deon looks like a fag in that picture!

  2. Ben Says:

I was thinking the exact same thing when I watched that segment. I guess we should be glad they even talked about the game, usually they put our games on at the very end and don’t mention a peep as they move on to talk about the Cowboys again.

  3. FIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    Nothing new here…

  4. Pete 422 Says:

Yeah and if the Bucs keep winning, they will say something like, “The Bucs have been quietly winning” or “The Bucs have been flying under the radar…”

I give the Bucs credit. That fluky fumble at the 3 by Mike W doesn’t usually happen & the Freeman INT in the Red zone. Take those away & the Bucs walk away with this one.

  5. Josh Says:

Bucs get no respect i dont get it. i mean COMEON MAN!! They are never saying anything good about the bucs. If we beat neworleanes next week the headline would be Whats Wrong with the Saints. All they care about is cowboys and Will he or wont he A.K.A Brett crybaby favre

  6. Patrick Says:

F*ck ESPN and NFL Network. We’re 3-1 right now and we’re a good football team!! Why the hell can’t they just admit it already? I mean they’ll give losers like the Lions and Browns loads of love but they can’t take the time to say some good things about a 3-1 team. They make it seem like the Bengals are so good and that this loss was so shocking. Truth is, they suck ass!!

We have to beat the Saints!! If we don’t, people will start that “we’re the worst team in the league crap.”

  7. Josh Says:

How bout that fumble by spurlock and williams. BTW Raheem needs to stay focased during the game after the fumble by spurlock we had no rush to get the play off we just waited 10 seconds so Cincy could challenge it. There are still dumb mistakes being made but its good to get a W

  8. Danbucsfan Says:

I addressed this issue in responding to a previous post. Instead of addressing our turn-around season and being 3-1, they spend several minutes pondering how the bengals can turn around their season!! Give a little respect where it is due…

  9. Patrick Says:

Yup I’m watching ESPN right now and it’s ridiculous. They’re saying stuff like “a little luck had to have come in this win for the Bucs.” Oh, and when their record was being shown at the bottom of the screen, there was a caption that said “matched last seasons win total.” Nothing but a bunch of smart ass’s at ESPN. The only one who’s decent on ESPN is Chris Berman. From the times I’ve watched him, he’s usually pretty friendly to the Bucs and always has a sense of humor.

  10. Gavster Says:

“BSPN” actually said a lot of nice things about the bucs when they showed the highlights praising freeman, mike williams and the secondary

  11. Ish Says:

So cool, I logged on to complain about what I’d just seen on NFL network, and here’s this article!

We get NO love. Billick made me mute the TV for the final quarter — a big Bengal’s play was “what you expect from a team with so much talent,” while a big Buccaneer play was “wow, really lucky, a fluke.” I couldn’t believe how pro-Cincy the game coverage was, and STILL is.

And, I’ll bet we stay in the 20s on BSPN’s Power Rankings, while Cincy drops way down (after all, their loss doesn’t mean we’re better than them, just that they weren’t all that to begin with!).

We are not a great team (still a year away from contending IMO), but we’re a darn site better than last year, and MUCH better than any commentator seems to realize. UGH!!! I hate this lack of respect!!!

  12. Paul Says:

Even Billick said “it’d be devastating if the Bungles lost to an inferior team at home” talking about the Bucs.

  13. chargedcbh Says:

This has been going on for years, all the pre game and post game shows only focus on 8 teams. Then you have to have a segment on Farve, it’s a joke! It’s the NFL network, you should give EVERY game 10 minutes. Also they would show the pres conference of the QB or head coach of the winning team. NOT for the Bucs, they show Carson Palmer!!!! I LOVE it, I think Rah LOVES it, every now and then he’ll give a little verbal jab back at the Tampa media. YOUR ANGER IS A GIFT….

  14. Patrick Says:

True. He said that, but the truth is that the Bengals are the inferior team! They are so overrated it’s almost disgusting.

  15. sunrisejeff Says:

Keep ignoring us……seems like our guys like it that way.

  16. Danbucsfan Says:

Keep us under the radar, and keep winning games!

  17. Aldo Says:

calm down guys!! whats the deal?? no love?? i dont care about that man!! i mean, who cares who give us loves coming from BSPN or NFL Network?? its about us the fans!!! we dont need crappy words coming from them!! we need the W al we can get it, talk is cheap and the bucs are winning that after all is what i care….

  18. architek79 Says:

We dont deserve any real recognition and we have the QB to win every game but our Dline/Oline are subpar. We cannot run the ball and we cant pressure the QB so until we get better we dont deserve squat.

  19. McBuc Says:

architek79…I like the Bucs being underdogs and having the us against the world thigoing…but WINNING is what matters, line play, running, etc is great but n ot if you do not win. Ask the fans of Dallas what all those stats they racked up today mea, I will tell you, nothing because they lost the game.

  20. Nick Says:

I was also watching a clip from week 1 an 2 about the “Wining Teams Locker Rooms” after the games on NFL Network…. No Bucs…. needless to say I wasnt suprised….

  21. JohnT Says:

I thought you said you watched the NFL Gameday Highlights show on NFL Network. Rich Eisen is not on the highlights show and he did not “proceed to discuss the game and breakdown the highlights and give the Bucs no credit for the win and hang it all on the Bengals’ ineptitude.” Don’t trash my boy Rich Eisen when he isn’t even on this show. The guy you must be refering to is Fran Charles.

  22. Capt.Tim Says:

What’s wrong with the Bengals?? That’s easy, they just got their ass Whooped at home by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers! That’s what’s wrong!!! Lmao

  23. TJ Says:

thank you Joe could not agreemore the bucs reallybeat themselves all day yesterday but for all the experts like Primetime lets talk about ej biggers covering 85 the whole game holding him to3 catches letstalk about Talib who got burned then shut 81 down then lets talk about Mike Williams outshinnig Dez Bryant lastly can Josh Freeman get some hype now at least more than Stafford

  24. Hatey 80 Says:

Preach on, Capt. Tim. Preach on.

  25. CaptFear40 Says:

I was also pretty angry about the skewed coverage of the Bucs on the NFL Network. Between that and the constant Bengals love from the commentators, I thought I was going to puke. Then I went and read PFT and saw this headline (the only one about the Bucs game… I really hate Mike Florio) “Calvin Johnson rule steals victory from the Bengals”. I’m sorry but were they winning that game? How exactly did it steal victory from a team that was tied and probably going in to overtime? I really don’t care what anyone says as long as the Bucs continue their winning but it sure would be nice to get a little positive coverage every once in a while.

  26. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Josh,

They couldn’t rush up to the line and snap the ball because it came on a kickoff. At a change of possession, you have to wait for the official because it normally goes to a TV timeout. The play clock was nowhere near being set before the challenge flag was out.

I hope they never say a good word about us on any network. I don’t want our young players getting cocky by having our team propped up on TV. Let us keep getting no respect and playing with a chip on their shoulder. It seems to be working pretty good right now. Is it possible for us to just play every game on the road? It makes no sense, but we seem to just strive to play away from home.

By the way, where are all the haters? Come on Eric, Rahdom, Thomas, be a man and give a little credit where credit is due. I’m not asking you to buy a Raheem Morris Fathead (YET), but you should be thrilled to be wrong. Why are you so much more active on this board after a loss, but after a win you are nowhere to be found? If Raheem wins coach of the year, their heads might literally explode.

  27. Snook Says:

This is typical. When Atlanta barely beats that same Bengals team this Saturday, they’ll be called “impressive” for doing so.

I love how the Bucs beat Cleveland and its “yeah, but its Cleveland”. The Falcons beat them and its “Atlanta is the best team in the NFC”.

I find it very amusing and try not to get to worked up over it. Afterall, its pretty funny.
