Arrelious Benn Shuts Up Doubters

September 3rd, 2010
Some members of the Bucs fourth estate could be heard with loud whispers about why rookie wide receiver Arrelious Benn wasn’t flashing while fellow rookie wide receiver Mike Williams was.
Some Bucs fans had already given up on the stud from Illinois. It wasn’t fair. He is not Williams. Bucs general manager Mark DOminik said that from the day he was drafted.
Tonight, Benn showed by the Bucs have so much faith in him. His two touchdowns were exactly what the Bucs lack: a receiver willing to mix it up and fight with defenders.
His first touchdown, Benn wrestled away from a Houston defender to make a nice catch in the corner of the end zone. His second touchdown was pretty sweet, though not as physical.
Even Bucs coach Raheem Morris, cornered on the Bucs radio network after the game, reacted with a “I told you so,” type of voice, as if to suggest to those doubted Benn, “What’s the matter with you?”
Benn will be fine. While he may not start for the Bucs this season, he will contribute.

I loved it. Even though it was against scrubs he CLEARLY was more talented than the defense he played against. It was good to see him not play down to their level. Preston Parker also looked good. I hope they showed Bucs Brass enough for Clayton to get cut. Parker won’t last on the practice squad.

  2. Rob Says:

Scrubs or not, the catches he made for the touchdowns were not easy, each of the two plays, defensive backs were in his face and contesting the play. They weren’t exactly easy catches, I will give him that.

  3. Tommy Boy Says:

Rob you hit it exactly. His catches were something we haven’t seen here in quite some time. You can definitely see his physicality coming through on both plays. It’s gonna be badass once he and Williams develop with Freeman.

  4. Amar Says:

I’m happy with he did something but still it’s the fourth preseason game…Nothing to be too excited about. If he did it earlier against first team d’s, I’d be jumping for joy….But for right now Benn is still low key.

  5. Javier n Wimauma Says:

So where is Mushmouth and claiming he’s a bust?

Looks like you can remove the ‘bust’ status for at least his rookie season.

    Ha ha ha.

Hey Mush. I like you. I agree with you most of the time. But this time you were wrong and I was right ;-)

Keep up with me and you’ll be ok.

So, are you gonna pull a ‘JimBuc’ and not admit you potentially are wrong?

  6. Mr. Lucky Says:

Another thing I saw with Benn is that he ‘ran hard’ – very physical on that end around almost daring those backs to hit him. I LIKE that!!!

  7. Radio Mushmouth Says:

I already said in other posts that I’m GLAD he finally played well .

However, let’s not forget it was against a bunch of Houston camp bodies that probably won’t even be on houston’s roster any longer after Saturday.

Come SUnday , I’ll be suprised if he even dresses out , which is still dissappointing for a 2nd rounder on a team with pathetic WR talent to compete with.

  8. Radio Mushmouth Says:

That one catch was sick though. I’ll give credit where it’s due …unlike Joe who would say the celebration afterwards was embarassing :)

  9. Matt Says:

    Radio,

You’re crazy if you think he won’t dress next week.

  10. Radio Mushmouth Says:

He probably won’t . He’s not even running withe 2nd teamers. As of now even Spurlock and Reggie Brown is on the depth chart above him. It also will depend on how many WR’s they keep.

  11. FLIllini Says:

Rejus!!!! That’s my boy pulling through and stepping up!

  12. JimBuc Says:

RahDom (I mean Javier) . . . if you can read what does this unsolicited attack mean:

“So, are you gonna pull a ‘JimBuc’ and not admit you potentially are wrong?”

I realize you struggle with the English language sometimes (and with race relations most times), but dazzle me, what issue did I not admit that I was POTENTIALLY wrong (LOL) Potentially? Really?

Little freaky that you are apprentaly so fascinated by me that you are keeping track of issues where I was “potentialy” wrong?

(This should be interesting. I am guessing no response or at least no facts to back it up. Maybe even another name change?)

  13. JimBuc Says:

    Gotta love this stuff:

“I’ll be suprised if he even dresses out , which is still dissappointing for a 2nd rounder on a team with pathetic WR talent to compete with.”

Williams and Strougher are pathetic? Stovall is “pathetic?” Just on experience alone he starts over a rookie. Same with Brown.

So weird that the success of Williams seems to make everyone lose thier head about Benn. Don’t get it.

  14. Rob Says:

how about he trucked that db on an end around in the 2nd half and stayed on his after going out of bounds. YAC baby….its all about YAC

  15. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Stroughter and WIlliams as starters already IS pathetic actually. They are talented , but should they be starting already ?? Probably not….and then when you go down the deep chart and look at our back-up WR’s it gets really pathetic.

  16. JimBuc Says:

mushface — is the current receiver corp better or worse than 2009? 2008? 2007?

  17. Radio Mushmouth Says:

with a healthy antonio bryant ?? WORSE

with a healthy Joey Galloway ?? WORSE

    next question?

  18. Ash Says:

with a healthy Joey Galloway ?? WORSE

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Ur nuts, white tiger needs to retire to Busch Gardens.
