Peter King: NFL Writer, Oatmeal Connoisseur

August 6th, 2010

After inviting Bucs fans to heckle him at One Buc Palace earlier this week, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King squeezed in some breakfast, provided by the Bucs, before he was whisked off to the Big Apple for an NBC Sports production meeting.

In short, if anyone is ever deemed as fortunate enough to dine at One Buc Palace, King has some simple advice:

Don’t order the oatmeal.

Breakfast entrée: I had the oatmeal in the Bucs’ cafeteria. I’m an oatmeal expert, and this appeared to have the perfect consistency. I added a touch of brown sugar and a load of raisins (raisins on the bottom for three or four minutes, so the oatmeal would soften them up and make them juicier). Was really looking forward to it. But then the salt interfered. Would have been terrific oatmeal, but it was actually salty.

Grade: D.

Joe’s quite fond of oatmeal as well but he’s never soaked raisins in said bowl before either.

I guess it could be worse at One Buc Palace. The Bucs chefs could have served fried potatoes loaded with onions. That would have made for a fun practice in the heat of a Florida summer morning.

I thought that once training camp began, we wouldn’t have to sift through non-stories like “Raheem Imitates Talib” and “Peter King of the Oatmeal”…

    FIRE GREG OLSON!:

The first post you referenced is very much football-related.

As for the Peter King post, if you do not enjoy humor, there are tons of stories on the internet with boring, lame, sleep-inducing copy about how the eighth-string cornerback from Northwest Cornfield State University is busting his ass for his grandmother who hasn’t seen him play football since he was eight-years old.

Then you can buy a soda from him next week when he’s working at RaceTrac.

I’ve eaten at One Buc Place and the thing that surprised me the most were the plates. They are like 18 inches around and weigh about 5lbs. If anyone is thinking of buying season tickets my guy will get you invited to lunch there?

I am not going to lie, Peter King is an ass.

The Bucs practice facility is one of the best in the league. His little oatmeal story did not paint the picture of the facility well at all. So the chefs added a little too much salt in the oatmeal? Ask Capt Tim, he probably ORDERED the chefs to add extra salt peter to the oatmeal during camp. For Tim knows what it is like hanging around a large group of sweaty men from his sailing days. Capt Tim, did you order the extra salt peter to be inkected into the oatmeal? I have Zero Expectations of CapTim and his snorkling band of sailing seamen.

  5. Capt.Tim Says:

Damn you , Zero! Ok, ok, that was ALMOST funny, but definately an improvement

  6. Greg Says:

King’s a fatass anyway, it’ll do him some good to not eat a gallon of oatmeal from time to time!

  7. oar Says:

    Those aren’t raisins!

  8. FIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    Joe,

You acting like a little Nancy about Raheem impersonating Talib is hardly a news story. LOL…give me a break.

    p.s.

This Oatmeal story was suppose to be humorous? Now, that’s funny

  10. Hatey 80 Says:

The Buccaneers’ oatmeal is one of the best oatmeals in the league, except for when it isn’t.
