Jackson And Talib “Are Can’t-Miss Stars”

July 20th, 2010

Bucs icon and resident old man Ronde Barber sat down with NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen for a long interview on all things Buccaneers.

Joe recommends you watch the entire video.

(First, shame on Eisen – and his researchers – for leading off the interview telling everyone that Barber and Jermaine Phillips are the only remaining Bucs on the current roster from the Super Bowl season. Phillips has been off the team for months.)

In his very laid back style, Barber shares his impressions of Gerald McCoy, Josh Freeman and much more.

Asked to name top talent on the Bucs, Barber singled out two of his cohorts in the secondary.

“You look at guys, especially on the defense, guys like Tanard Jackson and Aqib Talib. Those guys are can’t-miss stars in this league,” Barber said. … Interesingly, the next and final guy Barber identified as top talent was Stylez White, who enters a season as a starter for the first time in his career.

Barber explained that he’s in the final year of his six-year contract, an accomplishment he says neither he nor the Bucs expected when he signed that deal.

Joe found it intriguing that Barber talked like a guy who genuinely wants to play in 2011, but Barber wondered aloud whether a team will want him at 36-years old.

Barber; what a class act! He is as good a person as he is a player. I hope he considers a coaching job with the organization when he finally retires. I could see Ronde running this Defense in the future if that is something he’d like to pursue.

I saw this video months ago on nfl.com. I think that Talib will explode this upcoming year. Its just hard to get attention when youre on a bad team.

  3. MVPFreeman Says:

Yeah this video was on NFL.com in June…. I think we were like the 6th or 7th team on NFL.com’s 32 teams in 32 days countdown. Or should I say countup?

  4. Louie the HATER! Says:

Watch your back Ronde! The current Bucs organization will pull a Brooks on you!!!

  5. eric Says:

If we had a pass rush they would have amuch better chance at stardom.

    Both are very good already.

  6. Mauha Deeb Says:

Very old video but even then Phillips was not on the team.

  7. Patrick Says:

Yeah and Philips should still be on the team! Everybody talks about how he’s too injury prone, but c’mon, it was a freaking thumb injury he had last year. Also, what about that “linebacker experiment” that Raheem foolishly put Philips through?? I’m sure that helped cause the injury and it makes me mad how Raheem’s screw up has to mean “departure” for Philips.

  8. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Not that this is even important, but why does everyone think moving Phillips to LB was such a disaster? He never played a down at LB, due to the Tanard Jackson suspension. Therefore, we really don’t know squat about how he would have played. Who’s to say he wouldn’t have gone back to LB and played well after Jackson came back (had he not been injured playing safety)?

patrick, does ending the season on ir three years in a row not count as being injury prone? C’mon
