Manbeast Taylor Played Five Positions At Clemson

May 4th, 2010

Joe admits it. He’s intrigued by Rendrick Taylor, the versatile, athletic manbeast fullback the Bucs signed yesterday along with four other guys out of their recent rookie minicamp.

Tom Balog, beat writer for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, explained the Bucs’ fascination with Taylor on Saturday.

Watching the 6-foot-2, 274-pound Clemson player being tried out as a fulltback and tight end, move around Saturday through special team drills, you wonder how he got here … as a tryout player.

You can get look at big No. 45 late in this video from Buccaneers.com.

And Joe’s been doing some digging. WBTW-TV in South Carolina reported that while Taylor is listed as a fullback on the Bucs’ roster, he played receiver, tight end, linebacker and running back at Clemson.  And Joe talked to a Clemson official on Monday who didn’t want his name published, who said that Taylor is “a rare athlete who needs to stay in one position and get some great coaching.

Taylor also was injured throughout his college career, including missing the entire 2008 season.

Surely, all those injuries dropped his draft stock.

Joe has no clue what the future holds for Rendrick. But Joe imagines a 274-pound fullback with his kind of athleticism could do some damage on 3rd-and-1.

That’s great that the Bucs have an athletic guy to try for full back, I am a little scared about the injury history though. That seems to be a sore subject for Full back for the past couple of years. Also Joe, do you have a picture with this guy’s shirt on??

  2. JimBuc Says:

Joe has his topless protocol all mixed up. :-)

Dont have time to watch the video, but we’ve needed to find a Mac Truck for fullback since Alstott started getting injured. Lets hope this guy makes it.

  5. BigMacAttack Says:

He looks a little slow in the video and cumbersome around the waste.

  6. sgw94 Says:

We already have a physical blocking fullback in Chris Pressley. I would much rather hope this guy can be a blocking TE for us and help get the running game going. If so he could end up seeing a LOT of playing time.

  7. sunrisejeff Says:

You’re 100% right on that one Steve. We really are hurting for a true blocking TE imo.

  8. Cannon Says:

Looks like the Incredible Hulk’s lesser known cousin.

  9. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

Oh my God. Alstott. Camp will seal the deal but we may have lucked out. Put him and Pressley in as FB and put Graham back as RB.

This guy looks straight out of the Longest Yard…..”you teach me to football?”

  11. Eric Says:

We need to find the guy who put this man out for the 2008 season and sign him!

  12. Jonny Says:

We NEED a blocking TE and a REAL FB. I hope this guy is good in his blocking skills and switches between blocking TE and FB during games and of course 3rd and 1 situations.

  13. Dave Says:

He is a tryout player for a reason people. Remember what they drafted: football players: not combine specialists and workout warriors.

They have the offseason to do some homework and see if he has a fit, if not, so be it.

  14. Dew Says:

This guy could be a great find. And like Joe feels, he could be the short yardage guy we need. But I’m a little worried how he gained like 50lbs in a year?

  15. BigMacAttack Says:

I would like to see more of Demar Dotson at TE.

  16. Eric Says:

Quote from the Dream about Manbeast:

“What’s he’s been able to do right now, when you’re taking about shorts, it’s timing, precision, catching the ball, picking up the plays and going through the mental part of the game. In all those things, he’s done a good job”.

Just in case any “you” is out there talking about shorts, thats what your talking about!

    I love this guy!

  17. JDouble Says:

Rendrick Taylor didn’t just have some injuries in college. He missed 31 of 65 games in his 5 year college career. He missed 7 games in 2005 with a broken wrist, 6 games in 2006 with a broken arm, 3 games im 2007, the entire 2008 season, and two games last year. This dude is big as a house and made of glass.

  18. lightningbuc Says:

sgw94 – Steve, you say we need a blocking TE. Are you sure? Don’t you think that’s being a bit greedy seeing as how we already have the best blocking WR in the NFL (allegedly) in Michael Clayton! And he’s got the contract to prove it.

  19. Eric Says:

    @JDouble

    Welcome back sir.

  20. Fatsacks Says:

i would like to nickname this guy “Tow Truck” just put caddy on his back and mow some bitches down!! wow this guy looks like to next incredable hulk if a tv series comes back!!!

  21. Vince Says:

LMAO @ “You teach me to football”.

  22. topdoggie Says:

A fullback who can block and catch the ball Hmmm. Hope he makes it.

  23. Radio Mushmouth Says:

I knew the Rendrick Taylor man-crush article was coming…

This guy is nothing but a work-out warrior . He played 5 positions at clemson , but he played ALL of them so badly that not only didn’t he get drafted , but no team even offered to sign him as a free agent. He had to try-out.

Don’t get your hopes up people. He’ll probably be flipping burgers in September with Larry Brackins and Anthony Mix.

  24. tnew Says:

looked stiff in the video.. didn’t care much for Freeman’s Royal hat though.

Looks like the Incredible Hulk’s lesser known cousin.

Yes his name is The Incredible Blulk aka the black hulk. This dude us absolutely shredded. I hope he works out at some position.

  28. Radio Mushmouth Says:

He didn’t attend the combine , so he didnt have to worry about drug testing.

He obviously took the offseason to get all roided up….we’ll see how he does now that he’s in the league and has to lay off the juice.

  29. Eric Says:

Never know who might be the next “driving force of the team”.

  30. JimBuc Says:

Serenity now Eric, serenity now . . .

  31. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I checked some Clemson info on him, seems he gets hurt a lot ?
