THE PESSIMIST: No More Do-Overs

November 24th, 2009

THE PESSIMIST is a diehard Bucs fan whose negative writings appear occasionally on JoeBucsFan.com. His views surely do not necessarily reflect those of Joe. However, Joe sure gets a kick out of them.

The last time THE PESSIMIST felt the need to write he screamed, “Fire Jim Bates! ” Feel free to read about it.

One month later, Raheem The Dream finally wised up and pulled the trigger. Good job, Rah.

But the praise stops there. THE PESSIMIST has this ugly feeling (similar to Joe’s Rosie O’Donnell reference earlier) that Raheem The Dream and Mark Dominik are serial rebuilders.

These guys have torn down the team not once, but TWICE in a matter of weeks. That’s got to be an NFL record for incompetence.

First it was kicking the veterans to the curb, then their handpicked well paid offensive coordinator, Jeff Jagodzinski. And now it’s their handpicked, well paid defensive coordinator, Jim Bates.

Funny. The one part of this team the Glazer Boys didn’t do on the cheap this year is hire assistant coaches; Jagodzinski, Jim Bates, and Joe Barry were surely paid the going rate for their experience. And now Rah and Dominik have sent them packing.

THE PESSIMIST suspects the Glazers will never spend money like that again.

THE PESSIMIST also is here to tell Raheem The Dream and Dominik that they’re out of mulligans. There are no more do-overs. This is your freaking team. Your heinous stink is all over it.

Entering the 2010 offseason, the easy, cheap and keep-their-jobs way out is for these guys to keep making the Bucs younger. That’ll be the built in excuse.

Don’t be surprised to see the Bucs’ geniuses go offense in the first round of the draft to keep Josh Freeman progressing, which will help save their jobs and buy time —  maybe trade down for a young receiver to replace Antonio Bryant, and another in the second round plus a running back there, too.

For Raheem The Dream, now it’s all about constantly rebuilding. That’s the only thing we know he’s good at.

Last I checked (I could be wrong because there seems to be personnel and staff changes daily), Joe Barry is still our linebackers coach.

Welcome back PESSIMIST, good to hear from you again! Spot on with your angst, as usual!

  3. Paul Says:

He was a 32 year old DB coach. The dude has no connections in pro football.

I thought I saw a help wanted ad in the paper for an OC and DC when Rah got the job.

I played defense in high school and college does that qualify me to be dc?

  5. Greg Says:

I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, does that qualify me to be HC or GM?

PESSIMIST – What are you smoking dude?

Constantly rebuilding…the only thing we know he’s good at?

All I’ve seen Raheem do is tear down…He tore down the veteran players…he’s torn down Chucky’s playbook…he’s torn down the QB competition…heck he tore up the first OC…he’s torn down the players in public and now he’s torn down the DC as well.

So far I haven’t really seen ANYTHING that’s he good at.

Now isn’t the time to bash Raheem. He just made a bold and difficult move that he had to make. Bates was a mentor of sorts to Rah. Severing ties with a mentor when they work for you in latter years is a very hard thing to do. Raheem is maturing and growing as a HC. We’ll see how he does as a DC, but now is the time to give him a little more rope and see how he does. I don’t think Raheem is calling all the rebuilding shots that he is getting credit for. I think most of the personnel shots are being called by Dominick and Hickey, with Raheem’s blessings, but Rah has his hands full with coaching. They have made some big mistakes, but they have made efforts to correct most of them. If they bring Derrick Brooks back, I’ll renew my tickets tomorrow.

Every move they make is amateur any free agent signing is off of some ones JV Team

I think it is very right to bash Morris and Dominik. My god how many freakin mistakes have they made this year. They let go of Bryant for Mike “I can’t make a FG if my life depended on it” Nugent. They hired one guy who had never called plays before in the NFL or college for that matter. They figured that out a week before the season started. They hired another guy whose system did not fit the personnel at all and then failed to get some players who might excel in the system.

They cut Derrick Brooks when his leadership and skills could have been very crucial in these trying times. And it would have been a nice gesture to have the best player in team history have his farewell season in a rebuilding season. Then they sign Michael Clayton to a contract when he has shown no ability at all to catch the ball or get open in the last few years. They give a 2 1/2 mil contract to a QB who they trade before the season. They give precious few reps to both Joshes during training camp and preseason when they probably knew one or both would be starting by the middle of the season. Morris should have had Roy Miller in the lineup quicker when the other DTs weren’t getting the job done. They should not have counted so heavily on Jermaine Phillips when he hasn’t shown the ability to stay healthy. It would have been nice if they went after some pass rushing DEs to help out a putrid pass rush. It would have been prudent for the Glazers to not hand their team over to a 32-year-old who had never been a coordinator before. It also would have been nice if the Glazers spent some money these last few years and making this downfall possible. It would be nice if the head coach would actually coach and not try to be best buddies with his players. I love enthusiasm, but sometimes it just is a bit much.

This does look like a JV team run by amateurs and owned by penny pinching amateurs. This reminds me of the Richard Williamson era where chaos reigned and Culverhouse was trying to save some coin (well truthfully he always looked to save money but this was more blatant). Morris and MD will more than likely get another season. Let’s hope they get people in here that can get the job done or they might be the ones getting the pink slips.
