Market Rising For Glennon?

March 3rd, 2015

mike glennon 1001

Less than a year after proclaiming Mike Glennon “quarterback of the future,” Lovie Smith and the Bucs are about to hand-pick their new quarterback of the future with the No. 1 overall draft choice.

Yes, Jameis Winston is at One Buc Palace today, charming Bucs staffers and possibly also future teammates and Team Glazer. In all this talk, wither Glennon?

At the current moment, Glennon is the de facto starting Bucs quarterback. Benched twice by Lovie, Glennon could start 2015, as Marcus Mariota becomes familiar with an NFL offense, or step aside right away for Winston.

There is a vocal, albeit, misguided lot that believes the Bucs should trade down. Joe is pretty sure these same people have rotary dial phones and hand-write personal checks to the power company, and bow to their framed photo of Woody Hayes on the wall.

If the Bucs already had a quarterback, then trading down would be a no-brainer. The Bucs don’t have a solid quarterback. So in a nod to these folks, Mark Maske of the Washington Post believes Glennon is the man to bring draft picks, not the No. 1 overall pick.

Why? Because teams are so deliriously desperate for a quarterback, Glennon’s trade value is on the rise.

The Buccaneers, similarly, must decide whether to keep Glennon around or get what they can for him. He has played decently in his two NFL seasons with 29 touchdown passes, 15 interceptions and a passer rating of 83.7. The Buccaneers clearly will be turning things over to whichever prized young quarterback they draft. Do they need Glennon in the fold as a backup?

Look, if you don’t have a quarterback, you are screwed. That simple. The Rams may have been one of the most talented teams in the NFL, but with China Bradford out (again), they watched the playoffs like you and me.

The Colts are OK, nothing more. But with Andrew Luck, they were one win from a Super Bowl.

So with teams dying for a signal-caller, and Glennon showing far more than Josh McCown, the Bucs might finagle a higher draft pick for him than what they spent to get him.

Joes, why is it every time itry to read an article you put up I get sent to that damn app page? Love the site but I’m getting so sick of this crap!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I have been posting for weeks that Glennon will get at least a 3rd round pick or perhaps a 2nd…..
There are so many teams that need starters and backups and this draft is weak with QBs.

Glennon is still young, has experience, 2 years on a cheap rookie QB……I can see him going to St. Louis or Ariz…..but there are other teams…..what about Denver as backup for Manning?…..Many teams could use Glennon to challenge their starter….

  5. WS99 Says:

    Joe

Your story is all wrong bc according to some posters we couldnt get an 18th round draft pick for Glennon. Funny thing is that it seems like more team are interested in Glennon than either of the rook qbs.

  7. Dreambig Says:

For Glennon, I would like to see him get a real opportunity with a better team and see where his career can go. For the Bucs, why not keep him. What scrub veteran are you going to bring in who is better and as Joe points out, most teams are screwed when their starter is hurt. Glennon is a good back up.

  8. Leonard Scarnesi Says:

“There is a vocal, albeit, misguided lot that believes the Bucs should trade down. Joe is pretty sure these same people have rotary dial phones and hand-write personal checks to the power company, and bow to their framed photo of Woody Hayes on the wall.”

I don’t think the Bucs should trade down, but what do any of these comments by JOE have to do with that particular issue? I know JOE tries to be all hard-hitting and clever with his comments, but this has to be the lamest attempt I’ve ever read…even for JOE who usually comes up with lame comments on a daily basis.

I’m not just attacking JOE. I seriously would like to know what you were thinking about when you wrote that paragraph.

    Thanks!

  9. Buccfan37 Says:

Just like me not knowing who the Bucs will draft come draft day, Glennon’s status is up in the air also. I would’nt be surprised some other team want’s him and is willing to give up an acceptable pick to get him. If he remains a Buc, I’ll enjoy watching his play because I have’nt seen much of it yet.

LMFAO…..WTF is this sh*t Joe- U burnt out bruh

  11. WS99 Says:

I think it means there too many old geezers who are clueless. At least that’s how I feel almost daily.

  12. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Nah, Joe just talking out the side of his neck again.

  13. Jerseybuc Says:

What QB would have been successful in Glennon’s shoes the past two years? No help from the coaching staff and no Oline, playing behind one QB flaming out and the other who was exposed as a backup. I hope he gets with a legit head coach who knows QBs, like Arians, and does well for himself. I will get behind whomever we draft, but I am sick of hearing people declare Glennon as a scrub. He deserved better than what he got here.

  14. BirdDoggers Says:

Glennon should have good market value. Glennon is arguably better than any of the free agent QBs and this years class of rookie QBs in the draft is weak as well. Several teams are in desperate need of a QB. Licht should be able to finagle a valuable draft pick from one of the QB needy teams.

  15. robert 9 Says:

MG will be our starter next year

  16. WS99 Says:

Only buc fans think Glennon is a scrub bc most have zero clue of how football is supposed to be played. Can you blame them? Most have been watching the worst team in the league for almost 40 years. It really not their fault losing is all they know. This is the same team that fck up Bo Jackson, Steve young, Doug Williams shit even Dilfer left tampa and won a SB.

Some of these fans and media are pathetic (copyright to TheKevin).

  18. Couch Fan Says:

I wouldn’t do it for anything less than a 2nd. Glennon is worth more than a 3rd to us as a back up.

  19. Daniel Says:

Glennon is a good QB who I would rate third in this years draft. Pretty sure we can get a solid pick for him maybe early third or late second.

Why trade him? We are most likely going to draft a QB JW or MM, why not draft O lineman who can block for them?

  20. Ray Rice Says:

I gives a FUK who the QB is just hope Koetter is able to get everything out of whoever is under center. And hope the Love Master leaves the OC alone.

  21. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

Before we trade Glennon someone needs to answer the question what we would do at backup QB if Glennon is gone

We’re not going to find a more capable (or more affordable) #2 than Mike Glennon

I say keep him and his tiny salary

  22. Jeagan1999 Says:

No matter which QB the Bucs take…if they go QB at #1….it would be best for them to sit and learn behind an experienced QB (Glennon) for a while before thrusting them out on the field with an O-Line that sucks more than a $500 Dyson!

  23. Couch Fan Says:

Exactly Creamsicle. Thats why I say somebody would have to make it worth our time by giving a 1 or 2. Which I dont see happening.

  24. Greg Schiano Says:

Koetter could not win with Matty Ice….you think a rookie or Glennon is going to win with this team. Blah, blah, blah…gotta have a QB…Famous Rapist Winston will not make the Buc’s a winner overnight and if we get so very lucky that Lovie does just one (1) good thing before Team Glazer shows him the door (drafting Mariotta) then we will have something to look forward to in 2016.

Lovie could not coach if his life depended on it. Unless the Buc’s trade the #1 pick for a coach (Chip Kelly, Belichick, Bruce Arians, etc) then we have another year of Lovie Ball! That is football without any balls! Remember, Lovie intentionally lost the last game against the Saints thinking that the #1 pick would make him a winner! First pick..second pick…Lovie is still below average coach.

The idea here is if we are going all gangster with Joe’s buddy the Rapist, we should get Ray Rice, AP, and maybe even Hernandez at Tight End when they blow his murder trial. With Winston in Tampa it is clear that Team Glazer has no moral code so lets just change the name to the Tampa Bay Gangsters!

At least we will have a winner! We could even put in a bid for Suh!! Come on ganstas….lets get Winston some of his future cell mates to play with!!

Cleveland for starters. I’ll put the crack pipe down if you take the dcks out your mouth.

    .

Maybe we should ask Ray Rice’s college coach about him.

.Oh wait, it was Greg Schiano: Molder of Men.

  29. Ray Rice Says:

    @Greg

I can’t see a team giving up more for Glennon that he costs us. Ideally, I’d like a 3rd back in return, but i’m not expecting more than a 4th.

Denver already has their Glennon…his name is Brock Osweiler. lol.

Funny thing is that it seems like more team are interested in Glennon than either of the rook qbs.

Ooooorrrr, maybe, just maybe, the other teams know that there is a great drop off in talent from the top 2 QBs to the rest of the ones that can be drafted and they view Glennon as the middle ground.

LaWD, you should start skipping over “Greg Schiano’s” and “Ray Rice’s” posts, just like I do. No need to waste the brain cells on people who come on here to pretend to be someone they’re obviously not.

  34. robert 9 Says:

    mcclown anyone. bueller, bueller?

A high 1st or nothing. Obviously I dont want him to leave.

  36. Buctebow Says:

For a second round pick Melman is traded to King Alex in Madagascar. Yeah buddy! Also, I would love to have all cell phones disappear and just have a rotary phone where people were polite and would not call during the dinner hour and never after 9PM, unless someone died.

  39. Alstott up the gut Says:

The Bucs need to jump on any 3rd round offer they get (maybe add a 5th or 6th to get a 2nd round pick). Then go sign Jake Locker to backup Winston. Done and done.

  40. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Sign Matt Moore as a backup if Glennon is traded.

  41. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Philadelphia Released Trent Cole

Productivity down because Philadelphia switched from a 4-3(RDE) to 3-4(OLB).
But Cole has been relatively healthy the most of his career. He could get a look-If the price is right.

    Trent Cole (Age 32.149)
    Position: DE-LB

    • 2012 (30) 16 out of 16 (3 sacks)
    • 2013 (31) 16 out of 16 (8 sacks)
    • 2014 (32) 15 out of 16 (6.5 sacks)

  42. LUVMYBUCS Says:

*Cole has been relatively healthy, for most of his career.

  43. Bucfan4life Says:

They may be able to get a 3rd rounder for him and if so, they should jump on it. Lots of run of the mill back ups out there. We need linemen and some journeyman back up QB in FA will be fine. Unfortunately nobody is going to view Glennon as THE guy, so a 3rd rounder is a bit of a stretch but maybe.

  44. Dave Pear Says:

Is the dress black and blue ( Winston) or white and gold ( Mariota)?
Well I obviously saw black and blue ( Winston) while a lot of people some how saw white and gold ( Mariota).
Turns out that I was correct.
    It was black and blue.
So connecting the dots that would mean we are drafting Winston.
    It’s as simple as that.

  45. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @Dave Pear

I saw that dress….and it would fit Mariota better (no disrespect intended)
Jameis would really have to slim down to get into it….unless size was an illusion also.

  48. Harry Says:

    @WS99,
Ok, so you believe that a team like Cleveland would give up, let’s say two 1st rd picks and maybe a second to get Glennon?? If you are saying “…it seems like more team are interested in Glennon than either of the rook qbs.” That is what that would mean. For Cleveland to move up to draft one of the rooks, that’s roughly what it might cost them. So do you think they would give that up for The Cannon?

  49. bucs4lyfe Says:

Below average like his completion percentage. Get what you can before this guy has to play another preseason which would make his stock plummet

  50. RachelWatson'sthong Says:

Glennon is bought and paid for. No reason to get rid of him. How about a little competition this spring training camp. Competition brings out the best from everyone. No more just handing a job to someone.

    competition lol that’s a joke

  53. Harry Says:

Saying it differently than I did above, we are NOT going to the SB next year. So get what we can for Glennon, hopefully draft a starter at MLB, OG, S, whatever, and get better for the future. MG8 is NOT The Future.
