Take Anthony Collins, Please

Seems the Bucs are trying to unload LT Anthony Collins on an unsuspecting team.

Seems the Bucs are trying to unload LT Anthony Collins on an unsuspecting team.

Yes, the free agency dinner bell rings next week. Seriously, eight days away. Already, rumors are flying everywhere about this player and that. More on that later.

One guy the Bucs threw a lot of Team Glazer cash in a free agent spending spree last year was left tackle Anthony Collins. What to make of that move? Well, Collins was a healthy scratch down the stretch in the Chase for Jameis.

When you don’t even want a guy suited up, that speaks volumes.

Per NFL uber insider Ian Rapoport, the Bucs are trying to find any sucker to take Collins — and most important, his contract — off the Bucs’ hands before free agency begins.

So, if you are scoring at home (you lucky dog), this is more evidence Collins will never again wear a Bucs jersey, unless he buys one off the rack.

Oh, and for those Ndamukong Suh-to-Bucs rumors that are burning up Twitter, Joe isn’t buying them. Would the Bucs be intrigued if Suh hits the open market? Sure. Just like if you just bought a ring for Rachel Watson a few months ago (Gerald McCoy’s contract) and all of a sudden, Tricia Cusmano is strutting around your neighborhood in scantily-clad attire.

I’d be surprised if anyone would trade a pick for Collins. His contract doesn’t come close to matching his performance.

  2. Dylan Says:

@joe “BUCS ARE HOT PURSUING SUH** just came out. go delete your post saying how suh is impossible. It just shows your head is big and you honestly don’t know what your talking about. ill give you credit your good at posting updates thats about it. I TOLD YOU suh is not a long shot and would be money WELL SPENT instead of throwing it at pointless Defensive ends. and you tried to make us feel stupid. who’s laughing now buddie.

Moon is made of cheese, too. Oh, and Darrelle Revis is the man, which is what we heard from the regime this time last year. Won’t believe any of the Suh silliness unless he’s signed here, which won’t happen. –Joe

  3. BucFan24 Says:

Lls. I fell off my chair laughing when I saw the headline. But in all seriousness please, anyone take him away!

  4. Dylan Says:

Wheres the suh squad at come to life my fellow smart bucs fans!

  5. WS99 Says:

    ^^^lol^^^^

  6. WS99 Says:

    @joe

I got 2 pieces of lint and a penny that I could trade you for Collins, is that too much? Yea, you’re right he’s not worth the penny.

  7. WS99 Says:

    Dylan

You got a point, only the bucs would spend 30m a year on one position. Don’t get me wrong I LUV me some Suh but that would be irresponsible to say the least.

  8. ddneast Says:

Same reason we couldn’t get any trades for Joseph and Penn last year. To much money for the talent level.

  9. buddhaboy Says:

wouldnt collins be serviceable at guard? Or even center? That diedick smith guy sucks

  10. Dean Says:

The idea that anyone is stupid enough to trade anything for Collins is, just well, ……wait a minute, the Bucs give another team Jackson & Evans and they will take Collins off the Buc’s hands.

Straight up deal. Nothing in return. That’s how bad that guy is.

  11. buddhaboy Says:

    Diedick smith sux

  12. tmaxcon Says:

The only person stupid enough to trade for Collins is Lovie.

Committing 200 million to 2 players that play the same position is completely moronic. There is no question that Suh is a much better player and clearly more durable than McCoy but financially it only makes sense if McCoy leaves. I gladly trade Suh for McCoy in a minute. I’d like to have Suh but the financial implications could be catastrophic long term. Look at big picture salary cap management is just as important than talent evaluation

  13. Dylan Says:

@WS99 let me inform you and joe how the NFL cap works. See lovie and jason said they will try to spend every penny. now they are shopping collins and or gonna cut him. 40-50 mil under the cap the buccaneers will be. Suh will be 10 mil a year maybe 11. with a good signing bonus. any owner will feel comfortable paying suh guaranteed money cause he was in the prior CBA and had much guaranteed money and he did his job. with the buccaneers signing suh they will still have over 30 mil to spend. which is way more then most NFL clubs. The buccaneers won’t have to pay a QB for atleast 4 years. they know that and are going to take adatnatge of it. all these defensive ends will demand a contract CLOSE to suh. we learned by trial and error with michael johnson. signing suh will put massive pressure on QB and there will be no run game against the buccaneers. its happening. start believing it and lay of the beer like joe. The jags, raiders and bucs reportedly have the most interest according to PFT which is a HIGHLY sourced website. and @joe did lovie come out and say this? no suhs agent did. Sign suh, extend lavonte, sign a couple O lineman, maybe a edge rusher, and they will STILL BE UNDER the cap. the salary cap got raised 10 mil go read it. its going down lmao your made of cheese joe you know nothing.

  14. Jeagan1999 Says:

I doubt they’d get a 7 round pick for Collins after the way he played last year.

On an unrelated note….there are some whisperings that the Bucs might be in the Suh hunt. I know he’d cost a ton, but that would be some D-line with him and GMC together! If the Bucs do persue him, it could be a sign that they are willing to trade down, start Glennon and use all the extra high picks we would get to rebuild the O-line. I think Glennon (with a decent line in front of him), the skilled WRs and RBs that we already have, and a dominant Bucs “D” would be fun to watch and could win some games!

  15. dave Says:

DYLAN: anyone can twitter or comment saying the bucs are in hot pursuit of suh. we could be in hot pursuit of anything. there is so much smoke screen in the nfl you cant really believe anything the media or ‘sources’ say until its done. I won’t believe anything about the bucs and suh until hes on the glazers plane. otherwise this is just smoke which makes zero sense at all why the bucs and suh would unite like absolutely zero. hes guna be one of the highest paid players in the league. and we already have that at the same position. dt is our deepest position and possibly the best of our team. get your head str8 nobody really knows anything unless your in the bucs meeting rooms

  16. dave Says:

guys this shouldnt even be a topic for conversation. I can’t believe how many people think suh is ‘without a question’ better than mccoy. I don’t think thats true at all. Mccoy i think is a better player who;s had much less talent to work with around him. Suh is a dirt bag anyway. Gerald is of equal or better talent at the prime of his career, happy in tampa. Soooo much other things to spend that money on than suh.

  17. WS99 Says:

In other news the bucs will reportedly sign warren sapp to a 1 yr 20m contract.

  18. DallasBuc Says:

Trade?…you couldn’t pay another team to take this bum off our hands. Lovie and lapdog have no idea what they are doing.

  19. tmaxcon Says:

    Dave

It’s not even close between McCoy and Suh.. Suh misses less games and puts the fear in OCs. You keep your choir boy. McCoy and I’ll take Suh everyday and twice on Sunday. How quickly people forget all the injuries McCoy has had. Suh is much better and a little toughness is much needed on Lovie’s soft passive defense.

  20. bucs4lyfe Says:

5 YEAR 30 MILLION. another signing like that will get lovie fired without hesitation…..trade him or drop him I don’t care if you have to eat that money but as a head coach you simply cant bring a guy back making that kind of money who spent most of the season inactive….why is it we are finding the eric wrights of every position on the field. Michael Johnson is eric wright signing, cousins is an eric wright signing too lol and the bucs will be on the hunt for another big name free agent again this season, eventually someone is going to have to have a Vincent Jackson like impact for us to get to where we need to be

  21. StRicKn Says:

Suh to Tampa is absurd. Although the thought of Suh and McCoy is a dream. (Besides the cash) also if they paid Suh I would be upset because of letting Revis walk.

  22. WS99 Says:

This is why the bucs are a laughing stock. Rather than focusing on signing LVD they worried about Suh. Who btw want to play for Seattle.

  23. BucsFanInChina Says:

Lol remember how last year the Collins deal was a “steal”? With the exception of VJax and McDonald, every single contract the Bucs have signed has been a complete utter joke.

  24. BucsFanInChina Says:

Suh will NEVER happen. For many reasons. Put it to bed.

  25. LUVMYBUCS Says:

C’mon SUH–Gonna order my Jersey just in case..lol

  26. tmaxcon Says:

    WS99

Maybe LVD is smart enough not to sign a desl until the organization gets its crap together and hires a real coach and stop this living in the past BS. If I was LVD I’d take my services yo an organization that has a priority on winning

  27. bucs4lyfe Says:

the bucs are a joke in free agency but lovie had one bad year here, we were a joke in free agency long before he got here thank so mark Dominick who seems to be a friend of the media now and all his awful draft picks and free agent signing have magically been forgiven and forgotten

  28. DallasBuc Says:

The only part of the Suh talk that does make sense is that you know he can actually play football so from that perspective Lovie and lapdog can’t miss this time around. Think of all the wasted cap money last year on 3 players (McTrash, Collins, Johnson) that cant play football that could have been used on one big can’t-miss signing.

  29. WS99 Says:

    Tmax

I know that’s right. Same with Glennon and banks in a year or two. Lovie might as well rid himself of the entire schiano regime and in the “new and improved” (lmao) bucs team. Rotf.

Btw I echo everything you’ve posted.

  30. LargoBuc Says:

Its really a shame. I dont fault Collins. I fault the Bucs for signing a quality backup/stop gap linemen to be a franchise LT. Maybe Collins was a jerk and demanded the money a quality starter would earn. But the Bucs should’ve maybe used him as a guard or RT or let him take snaps at LT on passing downs. But to insert him as an all purpose franchise LT when the tape says other wise is just irresponsible. I would love to hear Licht explain the reasoning behind that. Or why Michael Johnson was supposed to be our next great edge rusher when his resume suggests he his best suited in stoping the run. Not just the same old “were looking for quality football players” spit he feeds us all the time.

  31. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @dylan,

I’m not totally against having Suh, even though I think there are better ways of spending our money. He would instantly make us better, and I agree with you that we probably can afford him with not much work. However, signing him will probably put us in bad shape down the road if some of our draft picks do start working out and there time has come for a second contract. Then again, that would probably be a good thing.

All that being said, a word of advice – don’t count your chickens before they hatch. Never quote a rumor as fact, no matter how many sources are saying it. You see, there’s this thing called a smokescreen that teams like to have this time of year. Even agents like to leak info so as to draw up more interest for their clients. Now if we sign Suh, then go ahead and make your post at Joe. But to do it now is going to make you look pretty foolish if Suh ends up on another team.

  32. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Licht has no idea on how to attract trades. You don’t say we’re cutng a player if we get no offers!

    ———————————————————————————————–
im sure licht wouldn’t say that directly and it was an assumption but this guy but I don’t know why more of our fans aren’t outraged, you see it with all our players, some idiot guy like him or adam sheffy comes out with their big mouths and kills all our trade options

  35. LUVMYBUCS Says:

“Bucs main target in free agency is Ndamukong Suh. They wan to pair up Gerald McCoy and Suh.”

  36. ElioT Says:

I don’t think it will happen, but could you imagine a Suh, McCoy, McDonald, and Spence rotation at DT?

    That would be insane.

I’d welcome Suh and his nasty demeanor with open arms.

    Go Sucs!!!

  37. rayjay1122 Says:

Does anyone think McCoy could transition to DE since he has such a quick burst and would be able to line up beside Suh if he were playing under tackle? Just curious if that could be a possible option. I mean, if Bowers could play some DT after being drafted as a DE, then why couldn’t GMC transition to DE after being drafted as a DT?

Suh will be 10 mil a year maybe 11.

Let me ask you an honest question:

Do you think that if Suh was only looking for $10-11M/year, that the Lions would let him just walk?

You do understand that it is his intention to be the highest paid defensive player? (Yes, even higher than JJ Watt)

Would I love to see Suh lined up next to McCoy for the next 5 years? Absolutely. Would I bet money on it actually happening? Absolutely NOT.

    Dave

It’s not even close between McCoy and Suh..

Last I checked, they don’t play the same position on the D-line, so you would be correct in that statement.

Hands down, McCoy is the best 3-tech in the NFL. Suh is the best DT in the NFL.

    Apples to Oranges.

  39. dave Says:

tmaxcon: i get peoples point about gerald and injuries but theres really nothing he can do about that at this point. I’m just not sure if you’ve actually watched a bucs game. but gmc is absolutely dominant and doesn’t play passive. every oc fears gmc so idk where your getting that theyre not from. i agree suh has to be gameplanned for too, but it all this talk about how much better suh is than mccoy has to stop. your not going to get anything more from our team for having suh rather than gmc

  40. rayjay1122 Says:

LOL…The article was about Collins but the comments shifted to Suh. How irrelevant is Collins around here!!! LOL

  41. Cody Says:

    Sign Greg Hardy not Suh…

  42. Mike10 Says:

Is there a reason why were going to eat 15 mil before we move Collins to guard?

  43. unbelievable Says:

Gotta love that “Now, they’re shopping him. Will cut him if no takers”.

Um, isn’t this what we do w/ every damn player? No one wants to trade b/c they know we will just cut the player. I swear we are the worst organization at setting up trades. C’mon, Licht, make something happen!
