Mariota And Winston 40-Yard Dash Times

February 21st, 2015
WinstonMariota

See how they compare to Mike Glennon

The initial 40-yard dash times are in for the popular quarterback prospects in the 2015 NFL Draft.

As expected super-athlete Marcus Mariota won the unofficial competition in 4.52 seconds. Winston clocked 4.97, which is pretty sluggish. Winston seemed to lose his juice in the last 10 yards. Mike Glennon clocked 4.94 at the 2013 combine.

  1. Kalind Says:

Hehehe, couldn’t care less. I don’t want our QB running anyway. And ill put that run against Oklahoma State up against anyone, anyway.

Who cares. Wintson wins. Mariota wins…just not as often.

  2. Anzac Buc Says:

Winston is unfit as pet that fat pic. This is a clear indicator regarding his work ethic and ability to perform under pressure. Glennon faster than him- says it all

  3. Yungry Says:

Who was that running 4.5 40 yard dashes? Who was the fastest QB with better passing numbers too? Mariota Once he learns to stand in a circle with 10 other players and clap at the end while being handed a football under center he’ll be supreme! Welcome to Tampa!

  4. knuckledragger Says:

Announcer said that in the simulcast Mariota was 5 yards ahead of Winston at the 30 yard mark.
Of course that is not all that important for QBs. What IS important is that Mariota can’t huddle and Winston hasnt called a play since HS.
Can’t wait to see them throw and see if one of em can pull me out of the TRADE DOWN CROWD

  5. R.O. Says:

Anzac….. I guess you would have took Mike Mamula also in the 95 draft. 40 times mean nothing. Mariota was sacked at almost a rate of twice as often as JW.

  6. Couch Fan Says:

Good thing you dont need to be fast dropping back 3 5 or 7 steps. Mariota had 31 sacks last year so his speed doesnt mean all that much.

  7. chris k Says:

So it was the system that made Mariota look so good? Jumps longer, jumps higher, runs way way faster. It must be the system at the combine that makes Mariota look so much better than Winston too i guess? Yup Winston lovers, we’re the dumb people who do not know football! Coming up, Mariota blowing Winston away in the passing drills to put the iceing on the cake!

  8. Nybucsfan Says:

He is so a bust how can people not see this. Put him behind our line he will last a week. Not one good thing from the combine from him

  9. Gus Says:

So Glennon is faster than Winston lmao

  10. Couch Fan Says:

Everybody already knows Mariota is a better athlete. Lol To funny to watch some of yous try to pretend its some great accomplishment nobody knew was coming.

  11. Gus Says:

The real thing that gets me is how slow Mariota is. His speed looked elite on film. He is no where near as fast I thiught

  12. Luther Says:

LOL…look at the people proclaiming that Mariota must be better because he runs and jumps faster. Running and jumping faster means a little something with RBs and WRs but it means almost nothing with QBs. Marino, Brady and Manning might as well have lead feet and cement shoes but they get the job done in the pocket.

  13. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    (Good Wide Receiver Prospects)

    • Dorial Green-Beckham- (Oklahoma) 6-5/237
    • Breshad Perriman – (UCF) 6-2/212
    • Devin Smith – (Ohio State) 6-0/196
    • Rashad Greene- (FSU) 5-11/182
    • Justin Hardy- (East Carolina) 5-10/192
    • Tre McBride – (William & Mary) 6-0/210
    • Jordan Taylor- (Rice) 6-5/204

  14. Supersam Says:

Wow. He’s slower than Glennon. That’s pathetic man. Mariota looked fierce!! This isn’t even a competition anymore. IF we don’t select Mariota I’m gonna lose it.

  15. Anzac Buc Says:

R.O. It’s not about the time, it’s the fact that he is so unprepared and clearly overweight. If that’s not yet another red flag about his character, I don’t know what is.

  16. knuckledragger Says:

Hey on the Flip side did you guys hear Mayock state how good last yrs WR class was????
3 Rooks last yr had over 1000 yards
That has only happened 4 times in the last ten years Combined

  17. chris k Says:

@Couch. Yes we knew, but to be this much superior? Winston is slower than Glennon!? Seriously! Athletism matters! Winston lovers need to get that through their heads already.

  18. Yungry Says:

Its not that he is just a better athlete but also a better PASSER! Just stay tuned little boys…

  19. Supersam Says:

Winston looked like he should be doing lineman drills. He looked tubby

  20. ndog Says:

Supersam I can’t wait to see your reaction on April 30th. Dude you want the guy that can’t run a huddle or call a play. But oh yeah he runs really fast that means he’s going to be great. You are clueless.

  21. chris k Says:

It’s 2015! Rodgers, Wilson types are the Qb’s of the future. Cement shoe players are only an option with great offensive lines..

  22. Yungry Says:

Mariota proved who was better in the stats, Rose Bowl and will later today! That is called a hat trick…When will you just admit he is 2nd place

  23. Anzac Buc Says:

Add the fact that he wants to come Tampa next year to win a Super Bowl, illustrates his immaturity even further. He’s kidding himself and wants everyone else to be sucked in to his delusional world of Jameis. Mariota is the better character by far, the better athlete by far, has a fraction of the intercepts of Jameis, and can look off a safety. It’s a no brainer people

  24. ndog Says:

So Chris k you think Seattle and green bay don’t have good olines? Do you guys even know what you’re typing? No team had ever been good in the history of football without a good oline.

  25. Anzac Buc Says:

Winston is tubby. However he’s told everyone ‘I look good and I know it’. Wtf? He’s living in a dreamworld

  26. ufcguy Says:

    U idiots are delusional

  27. Yungry Says:

Less than 25% of the Super Bowl snaps were from under center. Eagles, Seahawks, Broncos, Packers and Patriots snap more from the shot gun than center but these JW people are living in the past…There is a new style of play and they haven’t noticed it yet…

  28. ndog Says:

Better passer? You guys are hilarious! Do you guys even watch football?

  29. Couch Fan Says:

    @Anzac

I agree with you. We dont need anybody that wants to win a super bowl. That is so immature. We need someone with a real loser mentality that only thinks they can win a few games next year.

Do you even listen to yourself. You hate without knowing your hating. LMAO

  30. LUVMYBUCS Says:

*Flash backs of the Ole’ Black N’ Blue Division

    (Tom Moore) Air Coryell System
    • Herman Moore
    • Brett Perriman ← Breshad Perriman’s Father
    • Johnnie Morton

  31. Supersam Says:

Slower than Glennon!! That just blows my mind. Unreal, I never would’ve dreamed he was that slow and out of shape. Welcome to Tampa Mariota

  32. Nybucsfan Says:

This is how you know that you know nothing about football. You want a guy that is slower, fatter, not as smart, numbers on the feild are not even close, off the field he is a train wreck, you are banking on a system that has had 3 first round bust in ten years soon to be 4 yea Jimbo fishers system clearly doesn’t translate to the NFL. there is proof of that. Did Chip Kelly’s quarterback system have a first-round bust?

  33. Chef Paul Says:

Didyou see the top ten 40’s for qb? Russel was the ONLY one worth a buck in that catagory. Marcus Vick was awesome. We should go get him!!!

  34. ndog Says:

It is going to be awesome watching Mariota fall in the draft and then sit on the bench for the next four years while we finally have a qb. By the way what has he ever done to make you guys like him so much? He is boring, ran a gimmick offense and by the way folded like a cheap tent EVERY TIME they were behind in the forth quarter. That’s right not one come back ever and isn’t that where the great players are made?

  35. Luther Says:

@ndog he’s make a nice boyfriend for your sister though. I’ll take Winston please.

  36. Yungry Says:

What was I thinking best TD/INT ratio in college football history but JW is better! LMAO stop fooling yourself, Winston throws to the defense more than Glennon and is slower than Glennon! Might as well give up now and join the Glennon Mob…Lovie said Marcus can make every throw. Plus, Chip Kelly was almost hired then Tedford now the new OC says Chip was his biggest influence and likes mobility and a QB who doesn’t turn the ball over. HMMMM….Somebody at OBP likes the spread and its the future….Look around the league at the succesful teams that is…Let’s not talk about off the field lol

  37. Skyline Crew Says:

So Glennon is called cement shoes, but it’s ok that Winston is slower? Wow. A QB that runs as slow as O-linemen.

  38. chris k Says:

@ndog. Never said those teams did not have good O lines. Said you better have a great one if you plan on playing cement shoes.

  39. ndog Says:

NYBUCSFAN so you are saying you would take Kapernick, Vick, Vince Young over Brady, Romo, Manning, Marino? Yeah you know football.

  40. The Buc Realist Says:

Thats nothing! Josh Freeman’s 40 time is 2.8 seconds. those quarts of beer never stand a chance! of course that is after he gets up past 11 am!!!!!

  41. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

BWhahahahaahahaha…. Winston has more red flags than the Russian Military Victory Day Parade

  42. the real Buck Bruce Says:

everybody get ready to watch the Tampa Bay future quarterback Marcus Mariota dominate and look way better than Winston.he will impress everybody he will be the talk for weeks.I believe all the analysts will be saying wow we did not see this coming

  43. Fishfries Says:

Now all the experts are surprised at how high winston a football iq is. Cmon man!

  44. The Buc Realist Says:

Josh Freeman ran a 4.97 at the combine, no one freaked out about that.

Just shows that Glennon is still the best QB that the Bucs have!

  45. Skyline Crew Says:

Dropping bombs. Some of these WRs are bad. QBs look good.

  46. Eric Hernandez Says:

I am surprised he ran slower than Glennon. I knew he wasn’t going to run as fast as Mariota but wow.

That being said can he break a tackle and get 10 yards on 3rd and 8. I say yes.

This may be the most important pick in Tampa bay buccaneers history. If we pick either Winston or Maroita and they fail. Yes people Winston can bust too. They may not recover for another decade.

True Bucs fans just want a QB who we believe can give a chance to win and compete for a championship. Maroita or Winston.

  47. Couch Fan Says:

“Winston is having one perfect throw after another here today” – Mayock

  48. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

    http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2015/2/21/8082035/nfl-combine-2015-marcus-mariota-jameis-winston-40-yard-dash

  49. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I guess this is a very stupid question for all those who are saying this doesn’t mean anything…….Why do they have the QBs do the drills?

Also….I don’t know if this works for QBs also with Lovie….but he says the most important drills he looks at for players are…..the 10,40,vertical leap & broad jump.

How did the two QBs do against eachother on those?

  50. Skyline Crew Says:

Whomever gets Kevin White is going to be happy.

  51. Anzac buc Says:

Couch fan, being pragmatic as an athlete has its qualities. When did you ever hear Aaron Rogers at the combine claim he is going to win a Super Bowl? Half the locker room would switch off on him immediately. Blind optimism and poor conditioning is the 2nd coming of Jamarcus

  52. Skyline Crew Says:

Mariota was dropping them in the bucket. Can’t wait until they actually throw.

  53. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

The 40 for a QB is more about quickness…and if you watch the overlay of Jameis and Marcus in the first 5-8 steps it tells the TALE…short space quickness is what a QB needs.
And for the criticism of “we don’t need a running QB” blah blah…if you watch the game tapes of Mariota he knows when to get down and does it EARLY ! unlike Vick and RG#…who never knew when to go down and fight another day

  54. TbDEPRESSEDFAN Says:

The fact that winstons 40 yard dash is slower than glennon makes me vomit inside my mouth. They way I am choosing between the two will be when I see them throw at the combine. If mariota looks better than Winston in his throws then I am hoping we pick him. even Brady and manning had faster 40 times. Do I agree Winston is more pro ready mmmm maybe. But showing up to the combine putting up those numbers at the 40 makes me question him. He’ll their were OT that were faster than him. All I care about is the best quarterback to make this team relevant again. Please please please. !!!!!

  55. Skyline Crew Says:

People here wouldn’t want Russell Wilson either.

  56. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo doesn’t know what Pablo’s 40 time is…..but Pablo was fast enough to outrun several Border Patrol agents. Pablo also jumped over rattlesnakes…..so Pablo values the broad jump and 40 times. If Pablo was running from a bear….he would rather be running with Jameis”

  57. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Skyline Crew

No doubt-That young man is a beast.

Matching Up Mike Evans with: (Either Or)
    • Dorial Green-Beckham- (Oklahoma) 6-5/237
    • Breshad Perriman – (UCF) 6-2/212

…wouldn’t be a bad look either

  58. Goodolebucfan Says:

The 40 yard dash is so important of a measurement for a QB just ask Tom Brady who ran a 5.28 at his combine that is why he sucks so bad right. People stop being haters. What means more about Winstons transition to the NFL is what Steve Mariucci says, “that Jameis Winston is the “most astute X’s and O’s guy he’s ever put on the board.” Good luck to both QBs

  59. Nybucsfan Says:

No I’m saying there is nothing Jameis has done better? The only thing people are banking on is the system he plays in and so far out of Jimbo’s system have been 1 round bust. Look at NFL website they had a article today that Jameis has never looked off a safety in all the tape they watched

  60. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Wait did I just hear that right….

Mariota hasn’t made a single offensive play call since high school.

That all of Oregon’s play calls, came from the sideline using their placard code system.

    That can’t be true

  61. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Interesting title to the article, Joe…..

I would think the title for a QB that the Bucs are considering would be:

“Mariota leads all QBs at the Combine in 40 yard time”

  62. Ray Rice Says:

There is speed, and what others call game speed, elusivenes, etc.. He reminds me of Big Ben in the pocket. He can make a throw with people around him and/or draped all over him. Big Ben is not fast by any means. Never has been. But he is fast enough when he has to be. He can make all the throws from the pocket, even if it is collapsing.

  63. Nybucsfan Says:

How many of Winston’s stats are better than Mariota’s. As for system no one has more 1 round QB bust in the last ten years than Jimbo

  64. lurker Says:

    watchin winston throwing…nice deep passes

  65. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s not just the 40 stat…..it’s also the 10…..verticle leap & broad jump…….Winston doen’t meet the QB average in any stat….

Now, does that mean he can’t be a good QB……no. But it does mean that he isn’t the better athelete….and over a career….that may make a difference in the ceiling for both.

  66. lurker Says:

mariota’s throws are there on the 5 step drop out but wobbled some.

  67. lurker Says:

we want the qb, not the athlete. the athlete cost the superbowl because he could not make the throw.

  68. Yungry Says:

Wait did I just hear that right….

Mariota hasn’t made a single offensive play call since high school.
    ————————————————————————-
In the NFL the offensive coordinator calls the plays… Nothing to see here…

  69. unbelievable Says:

Would love it if we could pick up Permian! Dude has clutch hands and great ball location.

Not sure if he’ll still be around by time we get to our lower picks though.

  70. lurker Says:

watch them throwing now! no need to guess at the better qb.

  71. lurker Says:

also, winston is way more mobile than glennon.

  72. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Yungry

    Lol, is that right…ok brotha…smh

  73. Fishfries Says:

    Winston throwing straight dimes today!

  74. Capt.Tim Says:

    I was wrong.
    It’s gotta be Winston.
We have to roll the dice on his character

But he’s head and shoulders above Marcus

  75. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    Great pass drills by Winston.

  76. lurker Says:

were you guys watchin? i didn’t get to see the whole thing, but what i saw…

  77. Luther Says:

Winston had a great day throwing the ball. It’s always telling when they use you as the example for everyone else.

  78. Carl Says:

You littel FSU flower children are in for a surprise!
Da Bucs will draft Mariota and Jamarcus will fall like a stone, baby.
I personally can relate to Winstons problems, but hey, I haven’t been
within 500 yards of the jiggle-hut just like the order says, so get off my
back. Yeah Mariots is a little sissy mamas boy but the Bucs owners like that
    kind of thing.

Da Bucs draft Mariota at 1 is Carls stone cold lock a da century a DA WEEK!

  79. WS99 Says:

Granted a took a nap half way thru but Winston has been flawless all day. Mariotta seemed somewhat intimadated in the shadow of the greatest #5 in fl history. Winston has fun all day.

Good lawd almighty please don’t let him shoot bb guns and destroy our future.

  80. Couch Fan Says:

Winston is leaving no doubt about who is the better passer. Mariota can run all he likes. I’ll take the more accurate guy whos called plays before and can deliver the football perfectly and consistently.

  81. Luther Says:

@Capt.Tim welcome to the club. Another convert onto the bandwagon. I was a Mariota supporter a few months ago and now I have seen the light. I like Mariota but Winston is the right pick.

  82. 87ForWinstonNOMariota Says:

Luther…I used to BE 87JameisORMariota too. Then I changed my mind…

  83. LUVMYBUCS Says:

So let me get this right–Not since High School

He’s never communicated ANY necessary formation information.

No pre-snap adjustments, no concept of post-snap responsibilities?

….Interesting, so how does he read coverages?

  84. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

Winston slower than The Baby Giraffe?? That’s effing hilarious!!

Are you going to blame it on his shoulder? Lmao!

Guess that beer belly pic proved to be more truth than skewed. Winston was unprepared, and that’s not good.

  85. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Not to worry… all of Jameis’s flaws will disappear once that big check appears…

  86. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

At least he can still throw!! Nice passes.

  87. lurker Says:

i think both guys will have success in the nfl. mariota definitely needs a specific type of offense to get the most out of him. if the bucs do not plan on implementing said offense, then winston is the clear choice. winston, to me, is the better qb, but we need one of these gentlemen.

  88. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

I’d be OK with either…however the game IS moving toward Mariota’s skill set…

  89. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

Agreed. I don’t who the pick is as long as it is one of these two. If we come away from the No.1 overall pick without Mariota or Winston I will lose all faith in Lovie.

  90. Skyline Crew Says:

Rewatching the throwing. The analyst were very impresses with Mariota. Said he shouldn’t have problem with being under center. Above average arm, touch and accuracy. Looked good in 5 and 7 step drops. Definitely looked good. Only thing I heard different about Winston was that he has natural touch.

  91. bucs4lyfe Says:

Lol 40 times are not important for qb. He won’t run out of bounds 2 years before a first down if he can still run an extra 4 yards

  92. Skyline Crew Says:

Analyst didn’t like that Winston was sloppy and inaccurate in the 1st half of all games.

  93. Tom Says:

It really sounds like nobody on here watched Jameis actually run with the ball in his hand. Go back and watch the games against Duke auburn or OK state and tell me he can’t move

  94. MTM Says:

I’m sure Winston will commit himself once he is selected #1 overall. “Cause he wants to go to the Super bowl next year”. He just started getting back training recently. Let the dumbassFSU homers start defending the lazy tool.

  95. lurker Says:

    first this:
“Lol 40 times are not important for qb.”

    then this:
“He won’t run out of bounds 2 years before a first down if he can still run an extra 4 yards”

2 years seems to imply that the 40 times do matter…lol. taking 2 years to get a first down makes me think mariota might be needed. lmao

  96. mikeh Says:

you would think jw would be faster than he is. you know all the times he probably had to run from the fuzz!

  97. mikeh Says:

I also agree! it does not matter much how fast they run. they wont be running back kicks! just look how fast brady both mannings and other QBs are NOT! so who cares.

  98. Lion Says:

The fact that Glennon faster is all the proof you need to prove that 40 times for QBS mean absolutely nothing. Glennon is a statue in the pocket and is an automatic sack with pressure on the back field. This hurts Glennon tremendously because he has zero chance of extending the plays when there is pressure.

On the flip side, Winston has elite pocket awareness and elite skills when it comes to evading a pass rushing defender. Which in turn allows him to extend plays and also make bigger plays down field.

Hell even Tom Brady ran a 5.2 and if he retired today he is in the conversation of the greatest of all time. Proves that the 40 is the dumbest thing there is when it comes to quarterbacks. How often do QBS run down field on a straight line? The answer is never. I rest my case.

  99. Lion Says:

OK Lurker, so please explain how 40 times matter when Tom Brady has won 4 Super Bowls and been to what 9 AFC championship games with a 40 time of 5.2 and if he was measured now I bet would even be slower than that. You breakout are clueless Lurker.

  100. mikeh Says:

@87 I also will admit jw did not look to bad! his release is shorter than usual and he did not look fat.

  101. mikeh Says:

but I do like mariota he has a rifle arm. he sort of reminds me of bret favre gun slinger who can scramble out of trouble keep the play alive. there is no reason mariota can not run a west coast offense. no reason!

  102. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Exciting….finally something REAL to talk about….both have very nice drop back footwork. Jameis lays the ball into the spot, which he did well in college .
Mariota …has a beautiful over the top delivery

  103. lurker Says:

hey mike, you are much nicer without the pipe, man.
    😉

  104. lurker Says:

lion, relax, and read what i wrote. then re-read. then read it again.

  105. Lion Says:

    Lurker

Sorry bud I misunderstood you at first lol. I catch your drift haha

  106. mikeh Says:

hey lurker im nice till its time to not be. we all dish it out. and I am 51 years old pal have not used a pipe in years wise guy! and when I did it was weed nothing else. pal

  107. mikeh Says:

I am also not a hater! because I don’t agree with some of you. we all have a right to our own opinion. I have followed this team since they entered the league you know we all show passion for our bucs.

  108. owlykat Says:

No, we don’t need another statute in the backfield trying to throw from the pocket. The Bucs don’t have that good of an OL, and keeping three of the lineman from last year and putting a few rookies from the draft in there is not going to be equivalent to the FSU line with top tier athletes protecting Jamesis, the slow fat QB. So if you enjoyed watching the Albatross lose games because he couldn’t escape a rush, guess what, Jamesis is slower and didn’t have the work ethic to keep in top shape–another character flaw Lovie can’t live with if he wants to make it past 2015. If Lovie wants to survive 2015, he must pick Mariota and tell his new OC to design a spread NFL Offense around him. Get a good pick for Glennon, and sign Tebow as his backup to help train our prize rookie Franchise QB. Operate from the shotgun. In time we will have a Dynasty then, but no SB this year (that is for fat dumb dreamers).

  109. Buqsfan Says:

    Gator fans in rare form.

  110. Broy34 Says:

To all the haters. John Clayton said he’s heard from source after source in the Bucs building that Winston is absolutely ahead of Mariota and Licht said they have a clear favorite. WINSTON TIME. SUCK ON THAT HATERS

  111. mikeh Says:

still two months to go well see.

  112. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Only a weak small minded person throws around hater and racist to make up for their inability to actually compose a descent rebuttal to a post that has gotten under their skin. !!! All hell would break loose and Joe would bold type delete ,if any such language was ever posted, and by all hell every reader/poster would jump the persons azz….

  113. Lion Says:

    Owlykat:

You really have no clue what on God’s green Earth you are talking about do you. So false its not even funny.

  114. Rob Says:

I didn’t expect Winston to set speed records here, but slower than Glennon?

    Yikes.

  115. Jon Says:

    RGIII all over again…draft Jameis

  116. Broy34 Says:

How do some of you familiar names have the time to argue with the same people over their insanely idiotic opinions every day. Let the Glennon mob enjoy the last 50 days of fun. Because after that it will be “I’m telling you now they drafted Winston to teach and back up Glennon”

  117. HootersChuck Says:

    Glennon = Mike Vick

  118. BenjaminBuc Says:

I have been hesitant to endorse Winston, but I thought he was outstanding in the passing drills. Release was shortened, timing was good, touch and accuracy were very good. Those things, in my opinion, heavily outweigh performance in the “measurement” drills.

  119. Skyline Crew Says:

It’s nice that his throw looked better, but will he revert back to it in a game. Remember Tebow looked good out of a game, but changed back to his bad habits in a game.

  120. lurker Says:

nice try, sky. that is a poor supposition. it is much more likely that he will take to the coaching because he will be 100% football. there is no baseball throwing to mess up the mechanics. also, he played very well with a windup and so does ben roethlisberger. much better comparo than tebow…lol

  121. lurker Says:

also, mariota’s speed didn’t help him all the time to avoid sacks. he was sacked 7 times vs a 3 win washington state team. i’ve seen winston make numerous throws with men in his face and i’ve seen him scramble for first downs or to avoid pressure and make the throw.

  122. Zam Says:

Winston’s such an arrogant jerk! I’d never listened to him before, but if I have to deal with game after game of that to stay a Bucs fan, I’m going to crazy.

I thought they both threw fantastic, and I’d even give the edge to Mariota slightly on the drills today.

  123. lurker Says:

    why zam?

  124. Barry Says:

From what I’ve seen so far, Mariota is the clear choice between he and #TheCreepyCrab. But Mariota is no Mike Glennon.

  125. MadMax Says:

Cant wait to watch Leonard Williams tomorrow.

  126. lurker Says:

from what i have seen, mr. winston is the clear choice, and many analysts say so.

  127. cmurda Says:

File these forty times as unimportant. Winston is the guy.

  128. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

The 40 time is not that big of a deal. Its the other agility drills that Shameis under performed in. The lineman he played against in college are nothing compaired to the NFL. He has the arm to make up for most of it. But thats also an attribute to all of his INTs. Mariotta looked awesome in the passing drills. The most important thing was how would his foot work and touch look. He aced those concerns. This is still a no brainer to me. Mariotta head and shoulders dominated Shameis on the workout drills. And held his own with him on the passing drills. He has ZERO character concerns and will be the leader “by example” of whatever franchise he goes too. He has Wilson and Rodgers agility. Give him time and the touch will be there with Wilson. His passing game will never be on Rodgers level, but how many QBs can say they are actually on that level??? Not many and not Shameis either.

Shameis did let his personality come out in the interviews, which I enjoyed. But he has been coached up for months now on what to say. He better have killed it or he really would’ve been just plain stupid. Wait til all the background checks and mental evaluations, and going to his hometown and talking to the locals, and everything else. Mariotta is a God in that respect, and Shameis doesn’t even deserve to be called a demon or devil, he resides in an even lower scum of the earth location.

I do have to say, Shameis’s arm is a thing of beauty to watch him throw the football. Its a shame he had to ruin it with all the stupid ish he has done the last couple of years.

By best compairsions for the two guys and who they remind me of personality wise, not talent wise, are as follows. Shameis reminds me of Big Ben, and Mariotta reminds me of Tom Brady. Brady and Mariotta let their play do the talking and Shameis and Ben are all about the flair and spectacal.

What I am really looking forward to is tomorrow. Leonard Williams, Gregory, Rae, Fowler….there is going to be a show put on tomorrow by these guys. And Williams can get himself into that top pick consideration if he puts up the numbers he is capable of. I can’t wait.

Lastly, how about Kevin White…my God that kid is off the charts!!! He is going to be an instant impact player like OBJ…wow

  129. lurker Says:

too bad we picked evans instead of a qb, huh.

  130. lurker Says:

you can keep liking the second-best qb prospect. i will take winston #1 overall. need that qb, not dline at #1.

  131. Brandon Says:

40 speed is not directly related to mobility of a QB.

Bruce Gradkowski ran a 4.59 40 and he wasn’t very mobile. Jake Plummer ran something like a 4.87 and at one point he was called the most mobile QB in football. Josh Freeman ran 4.90 and his mobility was excellent before Schiano forced his moronic discipline on him.

Winston might run 4.97, but he certainly is not immobile. Just as Jeff Garcia, whose 40 time was closer to Winston’s than Mariota’s, was not immobile.

    LOL

Right, he’s up their with Hitler, Pol Pot, and Stalin….That’s hilarious.

Winston: What are you here in hell for?
John Wayne Gacy: I dressed as a clown and murdered children, you?
Winston: I drank soda out of ketchup cups, said bad words to college students, and got the hook up at Publix.
John Wayne Gacy: Get away from me scumbag!!

  133. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

We have so many holes right now. MG8 can give you basically the same numbers as Shameis this upcoming season, while Williams would help out the other Dline players, would help out our LBs, and would also help out our DBs. We have to get pressure on the QB…why not take the guy who is the best at disrupting the line. I would much rather have a combo of Williams and Hundley than Shameis/Mariotta, and whoever the pass rusher would be in the 2nd round. GO DL 1st, QB 2nd, OL 3rd and 4th. We would be a way better team instantly and lets not forget FA and our 30 million, which will end up being over 40 million once we make a couple of cuts.

    And @loveanddunn

You should be ashamed of yourself for putting a name as great as Dunn on your screen name and supporting trash like Shameis. Dunn is just like Mariotta in their character. Shameis cares only about Shameis. He is an arrogant dick who thinks he is above all of this. The worst thing that could have ever happened to him was FSU and the Police in Tallahasee to cover for him so we didn’t loss our Championship game 2 years ago. He was protected and shown then he can do whatever he wants and still get away with that. The difference now is he doesn’t have them to baby him anymore. He has to deal with the Commish Godell who will bring the hammer down if he screws up again. This rape stuff isn’t over either. Wait til after he is drafted and see what comes out. F*ck this P.O.S. And for him to yell “save the best for last” at the combine yesterday…what a dick. And then at the very end when all the QBs were gathered around eachother taking a pic. he didn’t realize he was on TV so he had that smug F this look on his face. All the other guys were smiling for the pic and he was at the end pouting or god knows what. Then at the end you can read his lips “oh we are on tv??” F**K OFF to anyone that wants this trash. Who wants to take bets on whether he eats himself outta the league or gets suspended for who knows what first…

    Sorry Joe for the rant

  134. lurker Says:

shame on you funky for your defamation of character and poor logic. d-ends are easier to find than quarterbacks.

  135. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    LOL

    Find a new team.

  136. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

    @lurker

he defamed his own character. he allowed all this criticism to happen. he will not change once he gets millions of dollars and surrounded by yes people. I have never hated a player so much coming out of college. He is a great QB. I’m not doubting that. He is just a horrible person.

And Williams is not just a DE. He can play all four spots on the line. And stud DEs are very hard to come by. Thats why QBs, OTs, and DEs are the only players ever drafted with the #1 pick.

And to the other guy, why would I pick a new team. I am a die hard Bucs fan and only want whats best for the team. I am not an optimistic kind of guy. I believe what I see and also I am a realist. Everything about Shameis’s character and off the field stuff has WAY too many red flags. you don’t draft that with the #1 pick. Now say we traded down to 5 or 6 and somehow he was still there. I wouldn’t be opposed to that. Just not #1. Especially with a talent like Williams out there.

  137. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

And everything I said is common knowledge. Maybe some of you are too far up his a$$ to want to believe it. Or who knows what. Truth is truth just like dumb is dumb. And he may be football smart, but he lacks common sense. There wouldn’t be all these questions about his character and concerns if he hadn’t done all those things. He brought this all on himself. Then goes out and acts so arrogant like he is the new sliced bread or something. Thanks but no thanks.

  138. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    @monkey

    “F*ck this P.O.S.”

Did he actually do something to you personally? Like cut you off in traffic? Step on your shoes?

If not then your overwrought vitriol is nothing short of sad. “F*ck this P.O.S.” over what people have told you and what you’re read? Nothing you have personally witnessed?

    “P.O.S.”? Sad, sad, sad.

When they take him, you can root against him, or you can not. It doesn’t really matter. Good luck will all that misplaced anger.
