LeGarrette Blount talks to Joe at Super Bowl Media Day

LeGarrette Blount is a superstar these days, far removed from the days of Commander Schiano not knowing how to use him.

Now he’s the big, nasty, sometimes misbehaving running back on the AFC Champs playing for a Hall of Fame head coach.

Blount was all smiles and laughs at Super Bowl Media Day, artfully brushing off questions about getting booted from the Steelers earlier this season.

Blount even had his own podium, an honor reserved for the biggest names. And Blount regularly flashed his trademark ear-to-ear smile, especially when he didn’t want to answer a reporter’s question.

But Blount did show a serious side. Joe was there in Phoenix and asked Blount to reflect on what then was a heck of a moment in Bucs history.

In the final two minutes of the Bucs’ last winning season, 2010, rookie Blount needed more carries to notch 1,000 yards in just 13 games and seven starts.

Tampa Bay had the victory in New Orleans locked up and could have taken a knee, but Greg Olson and Raheem Morris called the rookie’s number to get him 1,000 yards. Blount for five yards on first down. Blount for 12 on second down. That gave him 1,004 yards on just 200 carries. The next and final play was Blount pounding for three yards. Icing on the cake.

“It meant a lot,” Blount told Joe in a very humble tone. “Just the fact that they appreciated me and liked me enough to, you know, to give me those last carries to get over 1,000. It definitely was a blessing to work with those guys.”

Man, it’s hard to believe the Bucs haven’t had a winning season since that final whistle blew on the 10-6 year that should have been 11-5.

I always liked Blount on our team. It was frustrating that he didn’t excel on those goal line rushes like Alstott did back in the day.

  2. DB55 Says:

Just another BALLER that was too thuggish for TB.

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

11-5! come on Joe, That is BS! especially when the last game New Orleans and they were pulling and seating players for the playoffs.

    Joe loves his revisionist history!!!

  4. Jack Says:

Agreed, Joe. We need guys like this.

He did what? Pound the rock, so let’s figure out how to run and pass this year.

@Joe… I work for a Superstar as a member of the Manufacturing Engineering Team. Our NFL Player Tracking system is deployed at the Super Bowl and will be in use during the game. Look at the Jumbo Tron and if you see statistics displayed during a replay you’ll know it’s us.

Zebra Technologies / Motion Works brings an AWESOME technology to the NFL in the form of Real Time Player Tracking!!!

  6. Bama Rich Says:

I still remember when he couldn’t get a yard against the Falcons!

  7. Cascade Says:

How can I turn off this stupid music playing when I come here now?

  8. Dooley Says:

Another blunder by Morris, Schiano, & Dom. Any of you remember the first game of the 2011 season, when the RB we got 1k out of in 13 games(splitting carries with Caddy)touched the ball 3 times(!!!) in the season opener. Say what you want about Blount, he’s been better in his limited role than Martin has been since that trade for a 6th rounder & Jeff “smh” Demps. What we’ve seen of him in his time in New England, is exactly what Schiano wasn’t willing to do with that antiquated bell cow garbage, this ain’t 1995.

  9. Cody Says:

Corey Dillon helped the Pats win 2 SuperBowls; he had a bad boy image just like Blount…

Belichick knew how to use him…Blount’s not a better back than Corey Dillion was, but best believe Belichick will find a way to take full advantage of everything Blount does well on Sunday…He can provide the balance NE will need to pull this off…

@ Drew where are u located? I am fascinated by that technology

  11. Cascade Says:

Is anyone else having this crappy music play every time they come to the site?

  12. DB55 Says:

Notice how he hasn’t fumbled recently huh? Not for nothing I like the guy but he is a fumbler. That is when you’re not deflating balls.

Its been happening and irritatingly so for a long time Cascade. Autoplay Ads.

And there are so many ads lining the sides of the site that it can be difficult and time consuming to find the offending autoplay ad to click on so as to pause it and shut it up. Sometimes 2 play at the same time.

I do not begrudge Joe’s ability to make a living and pay the bills – and if it takes 30-40 Ads on each page to do it – then so be it. But the Autoplay video ads and the annoyance they cause me really detracts from my experience on this site and I wish Joe would listen to his readers and not allow autoplay video ads on his site.

ummm, “joe” has more than one mind, and they are at odds every now and again.

  18. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Cmon Blount is the ultimate head case!!! Who the hell wants him in Tampa.

Seriously this guy is bad news I don’t care if he can tote the rock. He’s such bad news that Belicheat let him take a hike after Blount scored a record 4 TD’s in last years big playoff game. 4 TD’s in a critical playoff game and cut? What kind of idiot does it take to have that happen?

He goes to Pittsburgh and despite a real need at running back Tomlin lets him walk. Belicheat desperate for an RB lets him play some more.

Anybody wanna give me odds on whether Blount is wearing a NE uniform next year. Could Belicheat go for the double? Two amazing playoffs in consecutive years but still told to take walk!

  19. cmurda Says:

Whats up with the music playing on the homepage and in the comment area Joe?

  20. gatrbuc17 Says:

    Hell Yeah cmurda. I concur

  21. Connor Says:

The only thing worse than the Bucs misusing Blount was how they misused Earnest Graham for his entire career here in Tampa. He was a great running back for us when Gruden was still here and that idiot Raheem had to turn him into a FULLBACK, shortening his career. A great talent; sadly his career was wasted by the idiots in charge at the time.

  22. Bucbob1 Says:

I’m sure it’s comforting for Blount to know, that there is always Raheem Moris awaiting him in Atlanta, if he is cut by New England again.

  23. OB Says:

Did anyone notice that NE has a better line than we did this year?

I wonder what would have happened if we had that OL and the only other QB we had playing behind that OL with our receivers and backs and I have to admit, better play selection?

I still remember when he couldn’t get a yard against the Falcons!

I remember it TWICE- in the same year, Rich.

  25. 1976Buc Says:

Blount wasn’t cut in NE, he left for money. There is a business side to the NFL. Couldn’t get 1 yard? Come on fellas there was nothing there. You can’t put a square peg in a round hole. I think Blount has proven that he is a great NFL caliber RB if he has a coach that can play to his strengths. You don’t just go in and set records on a team with the history of the Patriots like he did lasy year. All purpose yards record (334), tied most TD’s in a playoff game (4) he has lead the league in most YAC yards. While TB fans were having a “Muscle Hamster” orgasm Blount was off setting records on a super bowl contender. With the choir boy attitude from TB fans we’ll never see another super bowl.

  26. Phil Says:

Wow I wonder if the Bucs would have a better team if they still had Blount, Revis, & Michael Bennett on the roster?
