Darrelle Revis talked to Joe today about one of his old Tampa Bay teammates.
Yes, Joe’s been frolicking around Phoenix talking to everyone about all things Bucs. It’s just part of how Joe saves his readers from the boredom of traditional Buccaneers coverage.
Joe asked Revis about his pal Go Go Gadget Arms; that would be Bucs cornerback Johnthan Banks.
It turns out Revis is a steady influence on the 2013 second-round pick.
Joe: Johnthan Banks had four picks this year. Did you keep track of him a little bit? And what can you say about him.?
Darrelle Revis: Yeah, man. Johnthan Banks is a great friend of mine. I always keep in contact with him and what he’s trying to do, and just trying to help him. If he has any questions or anything he wants to know as a corner in this league. He had a great year this year. He actually did, man. He stepped up. He even stepped up as a rookie last year when I was in Tampa. The sky’s the limit for him.
So there you have it. Banks has a Hall of Fame tutor and friend just a phone call away.
That’s pretty cool. Imagine if Revis was with him on the practice field.

Revis is a world class talent. Anybody who thinks letting him go was the right move is an IDIOT….

If we were only two or three pieces away from being a contender then I would say that letting go of Revis was a mistake. He might have made a two game difference for us this yr.

Letting go of revis was really stupid especially when his replacements with all that money spent is a guy that has 1 double digit sack season on his resume and the other a part time left tackle/guard who imploded this year and couldn’t get on the field in front of garret gilkey of all people. Where are the people that were belly aching about how much Revis made last year at?
stupid move you don’t just let elite talent go. You get burned almost every time.

Things like these are why I do NOT trust L&L at all with such a high-valued No.1 overall pick. I am HOPING that they have a good plan this time around and are able to improve the state of the team. But history would have us believe that Liar Smith is going to somehow find a way to botch this.
And to think, Banks was placed under Mike Jenkins on the depth chart, but by the end of the season it was Banks, not Verner, who was covering the other team’s best reciever. I didn’t like Schiano, but his eye for talent makes veteran NFL head coach Lovie look like the buffoon he is.

I just feel bad for all the Buc fans that bought Revis jersey’s. I had season tix that season and 24 jersey’s were crawling all over RJS.
Now they’re at some thrift stores in the bay area next to the Josh Freeman jersey’s.

Difference between good teams and the Bucs….good teams sign Free Agents and go to post season and superbowls. Bad teams sign free agents and lose, lose, lose!!!

Does it matter? I highly doubt we would have made the playoffs with him. Pats got him for a 4mil discount and had a team that was just a piece or two away from being a SB contender again. Happy for Revis, not mad at the Bucs.
Having a 16 mil CB on this team didn’t and still doesn’t make much sense. A shut down corner is nice but not necessary in this defense.
When they used that money on Verner, McDonald and Johnson, it made a lot of sense because of all the holes we had on D. Those guys weren’t probowlers unfortunately but they were pretty much the consensus top guys at their positions in FA. Swing and miss, nothing more.

Just watched the Michael Bennett interview on the league website. How could MD have let that guy walk…What a fool. I really hope this team turns it around. I feel like we only have a two year window to make something big happen. If our OC pans out, he will be a head coach somewhere after two seasons. Otherwise that just means it didn’t work out. That’s why I preferred an offensive minded coach. A risk taking coach. So in my mind, it’s a Superbowl within Two years or bust. Guess which one is more likely to happen?

I think it’s a combination of poor attitude and poor development
in Tampa. Players get here and they don’t want to take it seriously.
They have eyes. They can see that this organization is mismanaged
from the top down.

Letting go of Revis stings a little more than letting go of Bennett, but lets face it, even with Revis on this team we were not going to have a winning record. As for Bennett, I still dont think letting him go was a big deal, the guy never got double digit sacks. Plus there’s a guy on our roster named Jacquies Smith who got 6.5 sacks and only started playing around mid season. Bucs fans just want to reserve the right to be miserable.

Instead of being happy that finally got a shot at a franchise QB, all you guys want to do is complain about how we let go of Revis and Bennett. LOL!. I say thank goodness we went 2-14 if it means WE FINALLY GOT A SHOT AT A FRANCHISE QB!!!

At the time Lichts reasoning behind letting Revis go kinda made sense but a year later it couldnt look worse. The money they wouldve spent on Revis was instead used on the likes of Michael Johnson who severley underachieved and Verner who was ok but basically was a downgrade from Revis. Just about every signing by Licht was a strikeout. Licht and Lovie took a 4-12 team and somehow made it worse. How can anyone expect Licht to get it right this year? He has alot to prove. And going wild in free agency again will probably set us back even further if you can imagine.

I’m not about the told you so game, but I told you so on Revis. I could understand a team that’s building trying to draft but Revis is worth being the guy you pay a boatload to. He’s that good and he would have made this defense very formidable by giving us some hope for next year after getting the QB and O Line positions addressed in the draft. Instead, we got Michael Johnson, Anthony Collins, EDS and a ham sammich in Free Agency which resulted and continues to result in dead money.

I guess I’m the idiot because I think letting him go was ok. To spend 16 mil on a cb when so many other positions are needed, that would be idiotic to me. I mean seriously, would revis have won the bucs enough games this year to make the playoffs?

What hurts more than losing Revis is the fact that we traded away a first round pick and only got to have him for one season. If we had used that pick in the draft im sure that guy would still be around contributing with Banks.

Shane you hit the nail right on the head. We lost some potential good picks because of a one year trade. Another reason it’s not good to change coaches so much is you lose structure. That being said hopefully fate works itself out and we finally get our franchise QB. None of this would have happened if the prior events had not taken place. Hope.

Had to let him go. The team just was not, and is not, in a position to justify a high priced talent like him at the moment. He needs to be on a team that is competing. And we needed to cap room.

That first rounder would have likely been our QB pick, as Schiano wanted a QB that year. Of course…there were no good QBs that went in the first round that year anyway.

A damaged CB is not worth $16,000,000.00 a year. The second (of many) mistake(s) was to get bad free agents for that money.

The Pats will dump him after this season and the YUCS will overpay yet again. Unfortunately, these are our YUCS and we have to ride with every dumb a$$$$ decision they make. Dam!

The mistake was TRADING for him!!
He had one year left with the Jets!
We couldve used on first round pick on sheldon richardson,
AND signed Revis in the offseason!!

@ teacher… yep, you dont trade a #1 and pay him 16 milion unless he is a great qb, end of story.
Plus, when a skill player has an acl tear, he takes longer than 12 months to get back to where you were most of the time.
