Jameis Watch: Barber Likes The Film

January 15th, 2015

Jameis 1107

Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida.

Perhaps a few glasses of Christmas egg nog changed Ronde Barber’s spirits. Joe’s not sure, but Barber has changed his stance on the Bucs’ immediate future.

A few weeks ago, after being part of the Bucs-Packers broadcast team, Barber was so disgusted a couple of days later he wrote off the Bucs as potential contenders in 2015, while speaking on CBS Sports Radio.

But yesterday, Barber told eye-RAH Kaufman of The Tampa Tribune a different tale.

“I don’t think anyone figured on the Bucs having that record, and there was a lack of production at key positions that has to be addressed,’’ said Barber, who retired in 2013 following a distinguished 16-year career with the Bucs. “It would be short-sighted to say this was a terrible football team … because they weren’t.’’

Man, if Barber doesn’t think the 2-14 Bucs were terrible, then Joe doesn’t know what to say.

Regardless, it’s good to hear that Barber is bullish. It seems Jameis Winston is on his mind and boosting his spirits. For years, Barber was notorious for his dissection of quarterback game tape. So Joe was very pumped up by Barber’s reaction.

“I’ve watched some of his film,’’ Barber said, “and Jameis is a very good anticipatory thrower. He’ll throw through some windows to guys he knows are going to be there. He has some intangibles with leadership that scream at you. His movement is good. He doesn’t get out of the pocket like (Oregon quarterback) Marcus Mariota, but he’s agile and athletic enough to throw off different platforms and you’ve got to like his arm strength for sure.’’

Yes, Winston is boosting spirits across the Tampa Bay area.

  1. Supersam Says:

Talent isn’t the question. It’s his character, dude has a rap sheet longer than John holmes’s wanger. His turnovers are alarming to me as well. A lot of the “tight window throws” he makes will be interceptions in the nfl. Pass on Winston

  2. Supersam Says:

I’ve listened too the Dirk Keoter’s conference call probabably 6 times and something stands out to me, he said he made a mistake on the way the Jaguars handled Blaine Gabbert and his spread offense background, and then he went on to say he “will not make the same mistake twice” I think he just tipped his hat on them getting Mariota. Why would he think he would get a second chance at a spread option quarterback? Unless… Lovie has already made up his mind on Mariota

  3. Bob Digital Says:

    @Supersam

Rap sheet? The young man has never even been arrested, much less convicted of any crime.

  4. Jeagan1999 Says:

Looks like Cardale Jones from my National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes is going to declare for the NFL Draft later today. It’s hard to get too excited about a kid with only 3 starts to his resume….but boy were those 3 starts pretty awesome! I could see a team willing to take a chance on him in the 3rd or 4th round! All the physical QB tools are there 6’5″, 250 lbs, strong, can run, and got a cannon for an arm! I wouldn’t mind seeing the Bucs take a chance on this guy!

  5. Lovie equals 2015 Blackouts Says:

    Cardale Jones baby!!!

  6. Supersam Says:

Yea and I’m sure every thug on the street will tell you, ” I’ve never been convicted”! Hahah. That don’t mean anything, just means you haven’t got caught yet. Everyone knows FSU covered up a lot of loose ends for this kid, don’t be so naive.

  7. Corey Says:

If Lovie and company will need to produce in a year or two, than what is difference in picking Winston(character question rear ugly head during that span) or Mariota( questionable transition to NFL in same span)? Either way your gone! I would rather pick Winston who will have the greater chance at success early. If he messes up off field than same result-they are fired! GoBucs

  8. Corey Says:

I’m a Ohio St fan and I wouldn’t bet on Cardale in the NFL. He couldn’t beat out JT Barrett in spring. Cardale had extra year in system too. Also great supporting cast and great coaching schemes. Won’t take from what he did( thanks for finishing the championship run) but he needs to go to the NFL and be drafted by a team that has the ability to develop him in time. We would be not the right fit for his situation

  9. Barry Says:

I’m bored with Winston. You can’t bury the Red Flags deep enough, they’ll always some to the top.

  10. ChanEpic Says:

Supersam, you don’t know ANYTHING about which you speak. Can’t wait for April and Buc hater fans can kick rocks! GO Bucs!

  11. Architek Says:

Take him – either way we win (in the draft and off season) that is.

  12. Skyline Crew for Mariota OR Winston Says:

Winston needs to work on some of this mechanics and pocket awareness. This will help him be truly exceptional. As of right now, I don’t think he will get by in the NFL with his mechanics. I think the staring down of the receivers and the elongated throw will eventually be his downfall. If he can get a faster throwing motion and learn to not stare down receivers he could be great. He also needs to work on his happy feet when he gets pressure up the middle. Learning to read the underneath needs to improve as well, but of course that comes when you aren’t starting at receivers.

  13. Eric Says:

Yeah and what “everyone knows” is always true……………

After all, the New York Times said it.

  14. Supersam Says:

I may not have a fancy website to post I love Jameis Winston articles all day, but I’d like too think I know a little bit about what the hell it is I speak of. Your ghost will always come back to haunt you, Jameis has a lot of ghosts. I’d rather have a quarterback fail on the football field, then one that fails at life!!!

  15. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

    Supersam Says:
I am afraid that there all all sorts of legal claims waiting in the weeds…waiting until he has money to go after…too much drama and distraction for me to take a CHANCE on…

  16. BucFan20 Says:

And because the media syas it it must be true! That’s about as reliable as some of the posters that claim to be retired sports reporters posting it.

  17. Dave Pear Says:

    @Supersam,
I think what Koetter meant when he said, “I will not make that same mistake twice,” was he won’t be drafting a spread offense QB.
    It’s a simple as that.

  18. Supersam Says:

    EXactly Joe joe thank you.

  19. biff barker Says:

    Eric Says:

Yeah and what “everyone knows” is always true……………

After all, the New York Times said it.
    ————————————-
Just like “everyone knows” the TPD, FSU Campus police and Athletic Dept. have all worked diligently in the name of justice too?

Enough for their actions/inactions to draw national scrutiny?

  20. Supersam Says:

Clever way to try and spin his words, but no. He meant I won’t try and force things on a spread option quarterback. Instead I’ll work with him and his strengths.

  21. Dave Pear Says:

    Now who’s the wordsmith?
How come you know what he meant and I don’t?

  22. Connor Says:

I’m already tired of the debating.

Just please GET THE RIGHT QUARTERBACK, and don’t throw the next 3-4 years down the drain!

  23. Supersam Says:

For one its not his decision to decide if he will be working with a spread option quarterback. It’s lovies and lichts So why would he come out and say I know for sure I’ll never work won’t one again? It makes more sense for him too say i won’t make the same decision on the way in which he handled the situation.

  24. Eric Says:

    @Biff

Just like we know the accusers lawyers are in it for social justice. I am sure they would be filing these suits if the accused was a third year non-scholarship chemistry major.

Of course they would………………the fact that he could be the number one pick in the draft has nothing to do with it.

And that girl went into Winton’s bedroom, directly from the bar, to weave picnic baskets for poor people. Sex was never on her mind at all….

    ——————————————————————

Um – Think again Supersam – You obviously know very little – in fact, with comments like that – i would say you are an idiot. Jameis Winston has NEVER ONCE been arrested much less charged with a crime. He is an intelligent and very likable young man who has displayed a bit of immaturity – but is certainly not a criminal. Your bias is so far out of left field it’s ridiculous.

  27. biff barker Says:

Eric, you can marginalize rape allegations if you so choose. Not me. The article that you cited as potentially suspect reporting spelled out a timeline based on public record and legal documents.

The TPD took months to do very little and all the while keeping the FSU AD informed. Simple as that.

We weren’t there so the truth may never be known. But the Glazers should know there is enough smoke around this kid to keep the fire dept. in mind.

  28. []_[]Buc Says:

Good, I was tired of hearing people talk about a kid like he was the next great thing after 3 starts whatever the platform they were under.

Fact is any QB would look good behind that OSU oline. There’s a reason he’s third on the depth chart.

As far as Jameis, Tampa won’t get excited till he does well in his interviews and stays clean till draft day.

  29. Lovie equals 2015 Blackouts Says:

I will stop being a Bucs fan if they draft Winston.

  30. Mr. Patrick Says:

The Glazers are smart enough to know that if they make Winston the face of their franchise that the fan base will decrease dramatically and they are getting tired of seeing a half full Ray Jay

  31. biff barker Says:

Mr. Patrick, the Glazers are calling this one. Without question. They simply can’t afford to miss on this pick.

My gut tells me they will be more cautious than aggressive here.

  32. ddneast Says:

Barber is one of my all time favorite Bucs and seemed to get along with every coach he played under.
On of the happiest moments in my life was when he intercepted that McNabb pass in the NFC championship game that sealed the NFC championship.
I also value Barber’s opinion and remember his remark about Freeman preceding the dismal 2013 season that now seems prophetic.
With that said, I would certainly value his opinion much more than any of these couch clucks out here who don’t have a clue about who will or won’t be able to succeeds in the NFL.

  33. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Those who say the Glazers will make the final decision are most likely right…..this is too big of a decision to leave to a 2-14 Defensive minded coach…..I am sure the Glazers will get all the input from Lovie, Licht & Koetter….then decide. If all three are in favor of Winstion….they may go with them….if there is disagreement or if its a “pickem'” then the Glazers will go with Mariota.

I got the same impression from Koetter’s remarks…that if….and I mean if….he had a rookie QB from a spread offense, he would proceed differently with them. I don’t think it means he’s made his choice, however.

  34. ddneast Says:

I remember that broadcast Joe and also remember Barber saying much of the problem was caused by having a very inexperienced OC. Barber also stated it wasn’t Arroyo’s fault since he didn’t ask for the job, but that was where he laid the blame.
Perhaps Barber is feeling better now that we have hired a new savvy OC.

  35. []_[]Buc Says:

    TBBF
It’s a pretty safe bet that if he stays clean and does well in the interviews Winston will be the pick.

  36. Supersam Says:

It’s as simple as this folks. The NFL has been under a lot of heat for the crea against women. The Glazers will not, I repeat WILL NOT! Allow Winston to be the pick, even if he never was actually convicted. I think him being accused and not to mention the crab legs and he BB guns on top of everything else is enough to make them pass on him.

  37. Waterboy Says:

“Want to know how to beat Mariota?” said one NFL talent evaluator. “Get him into second-and-10 and third-and-long. If Oregon doesn’t get yards on first down they seemed destined to punt.”

Oregon had four possessions in the fourth quarter and saw two of them end in punts, one end with a turnover on downs and the final drive end with a Mariota interception. In all, Mariota’s offense had 16 plays and produced just 58 yards.

While he completed 24-of-37 (64.8 percent) passes for 333 yards with two touchdowns and one interception against Ohio State, Mariota was 4-9 (44 percent) for 50 yards with a pick in the fourth quarter when the game was on the line. That’s what scouts noticed the most, and some suggested he was strictly a system QB that would only be a real fit in Philadelphia at the NFL level without years of development in a pro-style offense.

  38. Dick2111 Says:

Just read that Mel Kiper prefers James Winston.

That settles it. We have a winner.

    Pick Mariota.

  39. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

Supersam….your pissing me off. I’m trying to remain calm as you condemn this 20 yr old kid with your holier than thou attitude.

Must be nice to be so pure.

I wonder what kind of trouble Sammyboy got into when he was 19-20 years old.

Get off your high horse already.

  40. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

One thing’s for certain Sammyboy. Winston will be able to BUY his crab legs from now on.

    Cashing the Glazers checks.

  41. Kalind Says:

Supersam. His rap sheet is the same length as Mariota’s.

    Exactly the same length

  42. DB55 Says:

Damn Winston is in the news again. Most of you are NOT going to like this. Look who he is taking pictures with, SMDH!!!

  44. DB55 Says:

Don’t forget he stole some possy too. Possy and crab legs = breakfast of champions. And there’s nothing better than breakfast for dinner, so eat up.

  45. Eric Says:

That’s a pic of Jameis at a Church in Houston.

    Lovie is from Texas.

    He goes to Church.

    Hmmmmmm

  46. Dave Pear Says:

    @Eric,
I think you may have connected the dots.
    BAZINGA!
    Winston will be a Buccaneer!

  47. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Kalind, that is BS and you know it. Just because he wasn’t arrested doesn’t mean he didn’t do anything. To say Mariota has off field issues like Winston is idiotic

  48. Eric Says:

He was cleared from stealing the possy.

  49. Dave Pear Says:

He didn’t “steal” the possy it was a mutual exchange.

So Supersam is also a tough guy when posting on the internet eh?

  55. Buc1987 Says:

Lilsam….be prepared to support Jameis after the Bucs select him seeing how you are soooooo confident he will get in some major trouble after he gets taken by the Glazers.

No need to meet up. Just carry on with your stupidity, I mean opinions.

@DB55….you were an internet tough guy awhile back. You want to meet up with this guy and me in a parking lot somewhere and have throw down? You got my back right? Ha ha ha

  57. DB55 Says:

  58. DB55 Says:

I say we settle any difference on the field, like it should be done. Who’s down for flag football at al Lopez on jan 31st?

  59. Erik with CleanAthletics.com Says:

Why would L & L boot Mike Williams off the team for partying and getting involved in incidents that brought negative publicity to the team and then take a chance on a prospect like Winston?!?? Ahahahaha, it’s not gonna happen people. Get over it. The national media is stupid and their mock drafts are almost always wayyy wrong….

  60. koby Says:

Dude Winston character isn’t really a issue. The only thing that should concern us is a rap accusation which by the law I rules I follow and respect never happened, he never was charged. The crab legs? Well you do know that a lot of stores have deals where students on sport teams can get free food because a lot of times students lack money. So it was most likely someone reporting him that didn’t know that he could take the legs. And everything else is what we young adults do honestly!!!!!

  61. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

DB55…now you can read this dudes comment and realize how silly it was.

Since you like to obsess on ONE game I suspect that means you are really down on Jameis after that McCown like play and the total meltdown.

I’m with TBBF on this topic. ONE freaking game is not representative. Lot’s of variables in those individual games. Mariota was without three of his top targets and it cost, with two critical first down drops in the first quarter.

Jameis watched the Noles just melt. Jameis has his own responsibility for a bad game but he was not given any help from his teammates and clearly Jimbo was outcoached by Helfrich just as Helfrich got outcoached by Urban.

Football is still a team game and the NFL decision makers will not be like bloggers and key in on ONE game for either Jameis or Marcus.

  68. DB55 Says:

I guess the pic of him and Joel osteen didn’t help. He’s only like the 2nd or 3rd biggest Christian pastor in the country. At least he goes to church. Maybe JC has already forgiven him. We’ll see come April 30th.

“Jameis has an agent now, we’re gonna see him kissing little white babies and working in food lines soon enough.”

This is what worries me most about Jameis. Yes now that he has announced he can finally OPENLY hire an agent. Does anybody believe that Jameis hasn’t been recruited by all manner of agents and managers since his junior year in high school. He’s a man beast. He has a freaking 97 MPH fastball. He’s ALREADY had plenty of advice as does Marcus. Marcus listened and went to Boys clubs, Jameis did not and partied away his reputation.

It’s not like Jameis hasn’t had great advice before this year.

IF we draft him I agree with Derrick Brooks. We need to be prepared. Heisman trophy, face of the franchise, lawsuits being litigated…Jameis will be the center of a media firestorm if he comes to Tampa. It has NOTHING to do with innocence, or how great the kid might be, it has to do with REALITY in todays 24/7 news/sports environment.

Besides good advisers I hope that they can keep Jameis dad far, far away.
He’s the worst father since Cam Newton’s old man or Justin Biebers moronic father.

So Cardale Jones announces he’s staying and the unmitigated bullspit starts flying on Big Dog’s show.

He has on Derrick Brooks and claims Jones made a good decision to stay in school because Jones claimed he’s going to be a financial adviser. and needs to finish school.

Are you freaking kidding me. It was Jones who got suspended a game for tweeting..

Jones tweeted, “Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS.”

Now one could argue the merits of Jones point. Many Div I football/basketball players are pro athletes playing in what amounts to the pro leagues minor leagues the NCAA.

But whether he was right or wrong one thing is clear. Jones did not go to school to get an education. He is not staying at Ohio State to get his degree and become a financial adviser. He’s staying in school because he can raise his draft stock by doing so!!!

I hate when people insult my intelligence. Who here believes Cardale Jones is staying at Ohio State because of his “committment to education and getting a degree”

I have some stock to sell you in the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

  91. bucnut2 Says:

This the dame guy who spoke highly of freeman. nice try joe. Winston does look good on the field, the problem is with his character he want see it much!

  92. StPeteBucsFan Says:

“We ain’t come to play school.” The kid may have street smarts. He may be a very clever dude who is likeable and a nice guy. He is NOT an educated man.

i wouldn’t have gotten a diploma from my freaking High School with that kind of grammar.

Now if this was Jameis I was posting about I would receive the obligatory…you don’t know Jameis he talks this way just to be “cool”. He really does know how to speak the English language properly.

Again just to be sure. I think Jones actually has a point! I think he has a future in the NFL and will make far, far more than me, an educated man.
Just to try to pass him off as a student athlete. He just an athlete by his own admission.

  93. jfat Says:

Lol DB- That would be funny hsit.

@stpete, yeah, I wrote a similar statement the other night. I don’t know the kid and I wasnt holding the camera that night so I can’t say what really happened there…although I have to question why you’d have your boys video tape you. My main concern like you is more allegations coming up after he gets drafted, I don’t want to listen to that all year and have the team distracted.

Once you get labeled a bad guy by the media its hard to shake it. He can if he keeps his nose clean and more importantly, wins.

  94. Eric Says:

Well the glazers ought to understand what it’s like to be vilified in the press, especially over the pond

It would be grossly unfair to bypass the decision of the independent retired supreme court justice and hold unproven uncharged allegations against him.

    The rest ain’t much.

Man has got a right to earn a living.

  95. Ryan P Says:

The fact isn’t whether or not Winston can play it is whether or not he can be successful. His off the field issues are way to much to overlook. Look at all the quarterbacks that are not successful at the NFL level and which ones are. The successful ones are not only good players but are the hardest workers. I do not see Winston busting his hump to become a better player. I believe he will rely on his natural talent and will coast.

Mariota I have heard has a great work ethic plus all the goods he just needs to be in the work to learn the pro game.

I’d rather the Bucs take Leo Williams rather than Winston because I don’t think Winston is going to be a long term success.

    My opinion

  96. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

jfat…don’t forget opposing teams fans too. Some people out there still call Big Ben… Rapistburger.

See now that’s the part I’m going to have a hard time dealing with. I guess we better get used to it if they take him.

  97. jfat Says:

BTW, the way the guy talks doesn’t mean much. I remember last year when McCarron’s fine ass gf made a comment about how he talked and thinking she sounded like a b!tch because of it. As long as he can talk football he’ll be alright, can’t be worse than boring ass freeman.

I’d still rather have Mariota btw.

  98. DB55 Says:

Even if he wins everyone will be waiting for him to fup. Does mm resemble Mark sanchez?

  99. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

I just watched an interview with Jameis and he talks like a typical athlete. Some good, some bad. It was about a 9 minute interview. You can find them all over Youtube.

Believe me, I’ve already pondered ebonics at our podium after games…

So I’m not completely enamored with him.

  100. DB55 Says:

    Mccown cried like twice.

  101. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

DB55…lol yes he did, yes he did.

  102. Dave Pear Says:

McCown cries during a Folgers coffee commercial.

  103. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    87

I’m not too worried about the way he talks. As long as we’re ready and have done our research.

There will be news stories about lawsuits. If we’re ready we can get by that.

I’m as afraid of Jameis father as anything. As I pointed out fathers have been a bad influence in many young athletes lives. Cam Newton’s father may have been the worst selling his son’s elibility for 100,000 is pretty disgusting. But it doesn’t seem to have harmed Jameis.

In a nutshell that is my greatest hope for Jameis upside. That he turns out like a better, more talented version of Cam Newton and gets this party rep behind him.

  104. Dave Pear Says:

    StPete,
You weren’t afraid of Peyton’s and Eli’s father?
I’m pretty sure Archie had something to do with Peyton coming back for his senior year, and definitely had something to do about Eli going to the Giants.

  105. DB55 Says:

    Dave you a trip.

    87 that’s the plan.

It’s a gamble either way. It’s certainly possible that anything he can do mm can do better, maybe not, who the fkc knows and we have 4 more months of this. THIS JUST IN: Teams are still playing football!

  106. []_[]Buc Says:

    Wait whose the real 87?

The real one is the “Freeman Banner” one 😉 😛

  107. []_[]Buc Says:

I’ve beat the drum for Mariota but in watching both players a lot more closely I have really missed the anticipation in Mariota’s game you see over and over again in Winston’s.

I’ll say it again, if Winston has impressive interviews and stays clean off the field till draft day. The for FSU player (Gag* it’s all about the []_[] ) will be our future QB)

And if he can prove he’s willing to clean it up, I’m ok with that. Other than the ties to FSU 😛 lol

  108. Luther Says:

You know it pisses me off when guys go overboard about the way someone talks. You have no idea what it’s like to grow up in a household where everyone talks like that. The guy won’t improve his speech overnight. Let the guy grow up and learn. One thing for sure, he will get a chance to send his children through good schools and people will love the way they talk. And for the record, 4 years of college doesn’t guarantee you can speak very well because I can certain pick the flaws from even guys like Derrick Brooks and Levonte David…a guys who certainly deserves respect.

I know how these things work from personal experience.

  109. []_[]Buc Says:

And what are Winston fans not going to like about that article?

It’s not anything that’s going to impact his draft stock negatively in the slightest DB55.

  110. []_[]Buc Says:

Judging someone by their speech is a major sign of ignorance, I agree Luther.

  111. Eric Says:

I agree Luther, cultural and socioeconomic conditions determine speech patterns.

Has nothing to do with intelligence.

Who cares about the damn press conferences anyway?

  112. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The “debate” is starting to wear me out….

Here is how I see it…..

There is probably nothing out there that hasn’t already been said about 1354 times…..
Both QBs come with some risks
Both QBs are far better than all the others in the draft (doesn’t mean they will end up being better) but at least for now they are.
    We should draft a quarterback
Here is the real bottom line…
We have to wait until the draft to make the pick and nothing said here will make the difference in who we pick
I’ll start to get more excited when we get to acquiring FAs & more coaches hired….but this QB thing…..I’m about done!!!

  113. []_[]Buc Says:

    TBBF

It’s turning out not to be much of a debate to the NFL peeps.

  114. []_[]Buc Says:

And strap in tight if your already worn out, cause being here on this site your going to get just about only this lol.

    It’s only January brother.
    Jejeje

  115. Dave Pear Says:

Josh McCown’s press conferences were brutal. A 7 minute talk could have been spliced down to about 3 minutes if you took out all of the…and, and and, but, um, but, um ,and, and, um, yeah, and , but, but yeah, and, um, um, yeah, and, and, but….

  116. Eric Says:

I think the Bucs brought in Arie Fleischer as an advisor once.

Maybe they do like press conferences. They don’t like doing any themselves though and don’t look like geniuses when they do.

Joe next time you see Lovie ask him if press conference performance is high on his evaluation criteria for the draft…..

  117. rayjay1122 Says:

I do not care if Winston can speak well. If he can be a great NFL QB then I could care less if he were a mute. I am going to give the Bucs staff the benefit of the doubt that they get the right guy. I do not know which one that will be yet.

  118. LargoBuc Says:

Jameis is considered by many to be more pro ready than Marcus Mariota by a considerable margin. That’s why The Bucs are going to draft Jameis first overall. This regime dosent have time to wait for Mariota to be ready. Lovie and Licht probably wont survive a season with less than 7 wins. They need results and they need progress. If it was practical to draft Mariota and have him ready to run a pro style offense by September they would. But its not and it very rarely is. The Packers are so so lucky they had Brett Favre to bridge the gap to Aaron Rodgers being ready. We dont have that luxory. We have Josh McCown to bridge us to Marcus who might be good someday. That is why Jameis will be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer this spring. Lovie, Licht and the Glazers need progress. They need results. They need wins and they need them NOW!

  119. 87ForJameisNoMariota Says:

[]_[]Buc …both 87’s are one and the same.

Yes I did bring that banner to the game for Freeman. I’ve already stated numerous times why I did it. I’ll do something along those lines again if I feel I need to do it.

When 60% of your fan base hates you and you’re the starting QB coming into the season, you don’t need any added pressure.

I felt he needed to know that some of us fans still supported OUR starting QB.

  120. kaput Says:

Talent-wise, this is a very easy decision – Winston.

Yes, the baggage is there and must be considered.

But do we really want to draft the second best quarterback prospect in the draft with the first overall pick?

    Winston, all day long.

*Does every thought processed in you brain have to be dumb?*

    **************

Hahaha, who is this kid? When you learn about football you can come back and talk on the big boys board. Until then you should go get a Football 101 book and learn about it.

  122. []_[]Buc Says:

    @87
I know good and well your ex Freemanite past 87, and you know me good and well too jejejeje. No need to get defensive old friend. I have always and will always pick on you about that banner. So will Couch for that matter 😉 :P.

So your saying your also the Buc1987 account commenting on this thread as well?

  123. White Tiger Says:

I’m pretty sure this is the same “pro style” offense that EJ Emanuel ran…and we ALL see how well THAT worked out.

As a matter of fact, the most successful QB’s that have come out in the past 5 years…especially the top end of the draft…the majority of them have been from spread offenses.

    Look it up yourself.

Here’s the thing: spread QB’s seem to be able to pick up a West Coast Offense pretty quickly. Like Gruden utilizing either mobile Rich Gannon, or statue-esque Brad Johnson…think of the triple receiver sets, all that pre-snap motion, and LIGHTNING-QUICK-RELEASE…add him to a WCO/4-verticals system – then emphasize NO DRAMA – and all of us instantly & immediately think: Marcus Mariota.

Sorry fanboys, your ‘Shameus’ Winston-is-the-ONLY-NFLREADY-QB-in-this-draft… arguments just evaporate, like MM’s release.

  124. White Tiger Says:

I’d say if you re-watch (only) the passing plays from the BSPN clips of the National Championship game (as I have, twice) and you’ll see the reason why those receivers are so open. He hits every one of them, in-stride, with a 20, 30, or 40 yard ‘flick-o-the-wrist’…

…kid has a smokin’ fast release (and I’m a Buckeye fan). Ball starts to move back and as you’re anticipating a ‘tiny’ bit more backward motion…BAM…the ball’s in the receiver’s hands. Also why he doesn’t throw interceptions.

I suspect this will all be born out in the combine…but the thing is, if you don’t know what you’re talking about, you could get conned into thinking the second best QB is really the best QB too…but dig it…Winston ain’t the pick. If everyone is talking about the guy THEY KNOW is the pick…he ain’t the pick.

Especially if you turn the dial to filter out the dense FSU fanboys.
