Marcus Arroyo Should Just Go Home

December 21st, 2014
Enough is enough.

Enough is enough.

Joe’s had it with Marcus Arroyo, the Bucs’ acting offensive coordinator. His act is over.

Joe isn’t so sure Arroyo is qualified to be a college quarterback coach, let alone NFL offensive coordinator. Today’s lame effort did it for Joe.

Yes, yes, yes, Joe knows Arroyo was hung out to dry by Jeff Tedford.

It all began with Tedford’s heart issue and then his proclamation that he was “good to go” for the past “couple” of months.

Still, even with just one lousy game left, Arroyo’s offense just gets worse and worse and now is the time for him to pack his bags. Surely, the next offensive coordinator won’t keep Arroyo, short of needing someone to cut video and make bagel runs to Panera.

Let’s just look at some of the gory numbers today:

* The Bucs rush for 16 yards. SIXTEEN FRIGGIN’ YARDS

* The longest run from scrimmage was four yards. FOUR!

* For the second straight game, Josh McCown threw for less than 50 percent completion percentage, connecting on 12 of 26 passes. Somewhere, leaky, sleepy Josh Freeman is doubled over in laughter.

* The offense converted 4 of 14 third downs for a lowly 29 percent conversion rate.

* The screendoor-on-a-submarine offensive line allowed seven sacks. Seven!

* Josh Allen, you are supposed to pancake defenders. They are not supposed to pancake you… on virtually every play. Tim Allen would have been a better option at right guard.

* The Bucs held the ball for for 21:22 to the Packers 38:38.

The Bucs should just bring in Arroyo this evening, pat him on the back and thank him for trying to do the impossible. Give him a Christmas bonus and tell him to spend this week with his family and give him free use of Team Glazer’s copier so he can make resumes.

At this point, with one game left, why continue this madness?

Joe, I agree but the ultimate blame lies with Lovie. He’s done nothing to help this kid, nothing. At the very least he could have hired a veteran coach to act as a consultant.

Arroyo is obviously running the offense that Lovie wants

  2. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

    Yeah…
    he can’t run block
    or
    pass block

  3. rayjay1122 Says:

This organization deserves to be boycotted until the Stooges sell. We will never be winners with the kids running things. They are clueless on evaluation of coaching talent and GM talent. SMH.

  4. lightningbuc Says:

Yeah…Arroyo also can’t throw the ball worth a damn.

Good God, nobody could coordinate this untalented offense.

Blame the guy that assembled this motley bunch of clowns – LOVIE!

  5. ruggyup Says:

Bagel runs to Pantera? That’s it. This franchise can’t even get the basics right let alone the media and blogger cover guys. For bagels send some dude with a Masters Degree in Phys Ed to Einsteins!

  6. Hawk Says:

I’m all for pulling the plug a ‘Experiment: Arroyo’, as an OC. I am NOT in favor of tossing Arroyo, the QB coach. He has yet to show that he can/cannot be an effective QB coach. He hasn’t had even ONE week in that capacity. If Lovie wants to clean house, that’s fine, but to fire Arroyo because he couldn’t do SOMEONE ELSE’S job…

  7. Another J Says:

Arroyo should pick up some boxes, book a flight to Canada, and Leave a letter of resignation of Lovie’s desk effective next weekend!

  8. StPeteBucsFan Says:

But Joe this was the 21st ranked defense in the league. A REAL challenge!

At this point, with one game left, why continue this madness?

It made sense during the bye week. But the season is over. Dumping Arroyo doesn’t really do anything but perhaps provide a minimum of balm for the peoed fans.

I get your emotion and agree with it. But it doesn’t make any difference at this point so might as well do the class thing and let him finish the season.

You used to be more charitable about Arroyo, as in he sucks, but he’s in over his head and it’s not his fault that Lovie and Tedford placed him in this no win situation.

I used to love the Sam Wyche misdirection jokes…Hey we may be small but at least we’re slow.

Hey Arroyo may have been in over his head but at least he had no talent to work with.

  9. Billy Buc N Brazil Says:

No doubt Joe!! A Pop Warner Program is where Arroyo and his clown belong, however I would hate to wish that on anyone.

  10. Java Says:

Lovie will bring him back next year.

This team is the Browns of the AFC, welcome to suckville Bucs fans

  11. RCH Says:

As Lovie would say he gives us the best opportunity to win. This is beyond pathetic how much more do But fans have to suffer.

  12. Tye Says:

Arroyo isn’t the only one… Lovie and his staff should do the Tampa team a favor and just go elsewhere….

  13. bucrightoff Says:

Offensive line is where it all starts, playcalling isn’t really relevant if you can’t execute anything up front. Not that Arroyo is great or anything, but it’s poor coaching in a lot of areas that is hurting this team

  14. Another J Says:

Listening to Lovie’s presser today, and He’s throwing Arroyo under the bus too. This coach is a joke!

  15. rayjay1122 Says:

I agree with all of the dissatisfaction with the coaching. However, who hired them and pays them? This is first and foremost an ownership problem. It starts at the top.

  16. IdahoBucsfan Says:

I hang this on Lovie, and his stubborn refusal to play Mike Glennon when everyone on the team, everyone in the stands,.. and even SOME of the media knows that Mike Glennon “Gives us the best chance to win”! FIRE the LIAR! That is what I would put up on a Billboard!

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo wants you to lay off his “homeboy” Arroyo…..Pablo thinks if we had a QB like Sanchez and Oline with Manny Ramirez & Louis Vasqez…..Arroyo would be just fine” Pablo knows best”

  18. Bucs = LOL Says:

When your job is to put points on the board and you can only put 3?! Seriously, why are these guys getting paid

  19. lightningbuc Says:

    It starts at the top!

Coordinators and position coaches get too much credit when things go well and too much blame when things don’t go well. It’s football – not rocket science, brain mapping, or finding the cure for cancer. These guys have all been playing the sport for many, many years. This offense that LOVIE has assembled is just talentless, except for the wide receivers.

  20. Dave Pear Says:

Is it just me or does amicus Arroyo look like Maynard G. Krebs?

  22. Dave Pear Says:

    Sorry about the double post.

  23. Dave Pear Says:

    Marcus.*

  24. Jim Says:

Yup, somewhere Josh Freeman is rolling….literally.

  25. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

In all fairness to arroyo, and to McCown, that oline was the root cause of todays loss. McCown only panicked because he had no time at all. Arroyo isn’t the one on the field.

That said, both need to go…after the last game.

We are acweekvand a day from some firings. I can be patient. We just better not win the last game.

  26. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @DavePear

Dang you must be as old as me! I’m probably the only one hear who picked up that Dobie Gillis-Maynard G Krebs reference and I’m going to be 67 Tuesday!:-)

  27. StPeteBucsFan Says:

BTW Dave….bonus age points if you remember the actor who played Maynard.

    No cheating with the Googles.

  28. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Can we really rip on Arroyo and leave Warhop out of it. Imagine saying you’re the Tampa Bay Bucs offensive line coach. Will Warhop ever work again?

  29. BritBucsince92 Says:

I can understand the frustrations with Arroyo but where are the calls to kick Warhop straight out of town. At least Arroyo did not claim to be an OC but Warhop masquerading as an O line coach is a joke. The O line is the biggest part of the problem so start the coaching pink slips with the one most to blame ….. waste of space Warhop !!!

  30. Dave Pear Says:

    Bob Denver AKA Gilligan

  31. crazy Says:

Maybe, maybe not. Lovie’s smart enough to see what we see but doesn’t act week after week. At some point you have to recognize Lovie’s got the guys he wants coaching and playcalling making it foolish to expect anything to change. This is what Chicago fans hated about Lovie.

  32. LargoBuc Says:

It’s not just Arroyo. It’s npt just McCown. It’s not just the offensive line. It’s everything combined like a perfect storm of mediocrity. First and foremost we need to bring in an offensive coordinator who can get the most out of his offense with a strong game plan built around our strengths that expose opponents weakness’.
Next we need a quarterback that can execute the coordinators plan. I doubt that Mariotta or Winston or Glennon are franchise guys however ANYBODY is an upgrade over McCown.
Finally we need a physical talented offensive line. I’m in favor of drafting either Andrus Peat or Brandon Scheriff to play opposite of Dotson. If Orlando Franklin walks from Denver this spring The Bucs should really take a look at him. Lamar Hundley could also br available and may be a good upgrade over EDS.
If the Bucs can make some smart not necsasarily flashy moves this spring then our talented playmakers should light defenses up. Or at least get more than SIX first downs.

  33. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Dave FTW Yes Denver was actually far more famous for Gilligan than Maynard.

Although I actually liked Maynard better than Gilligan. Probably because I was so young and could appreciate silly more than later when I reached high school.

  34. sho-nuff Says:

more weak sauce delivered to you by team glazer….they reek of ‘pathetic’

  35. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

Why aren’t people calling for Warhop’s firing? It’s your perogative to hate coach Smith but Warhop is the o-line coordinator. WARHOP I say, WARHOP!

  36. BirdDoggers Says:

Arroyo is doing a job he wasn’t hired to do. The backbone of the offense, from an on-field standpoint, is the line. The horrible line play has a lot to do with the lackluster performance from the offense. The coordinator and QB are part of the equation but the offense often goes as the line goes.

  37. Fort Myers Dave Says:

STPeteBucsfan: ah I remember watching all the Gilligan Island reruns on WTOG along with all their other great (from a youthful point of view) programming like Dr Paul Bearer’s Creature Feature, Gordon Solie’s Championship Wrestling from Florida and the Tarzan movies (mostly Johnny Weismuller movie filmed up in Silver Springs)…. Quality TV from the precable days. I did not get into Maynard/Dobie Gillis until the advent of TVLand on cable which is good on all that nostalgia tv like Route 66, Dragnet, etc….

  38. Shane Marco Says:

It doesn’t matter who is calling the plays if McClown is running the offense. I can only hope Lovie is leaving that idiot in there to do his best to secure the first pick in the draft.

  39. Dave Pear Says:

    StPete,
Happy Birthday! On Tuesday, I know but I’ll probably forget by then.

  40. lurker Says:

so how many ex-buc offensive coordinators that have been disparaged here are doing well now somewhere else?

i think it is all the defensive coaches that are to blame for the offense.

  41. Bogiedr Says:

Bring on Inconito, Cutler and two picks from Da Bears plus Philbin as OC. Draft and sit Winston, fix the O line through the draft. Yes, Bears will have to give up picks and Cutler … Just remember, I said it first, don’t go hating, wait for it.
