Offensive Offense

Bucs offense

The defense of the Bucs played their hearts out today. They gave the Bucs a prayer. The offense? Well, the FCC may go after FOX Broadcasting for showing indecent and lewd content — that is the Bucs offense.

It’s not fit for children to view. Hell, it’s not fit for sober adults, either.

How bad was the Bucs offense? The Packers decided to go for a touchdown on 4th-and-goal midway through the third quarter leading by just a touchdown.

They knew the Bucs — with Josh McCown leading the unit — would never drive the ball 99 yards for a score.

The Packers played lousy early. The FOX broadcast claimed Aaron Rodgers was “under the weather.” Rodgers said he pulled his calf muscle on the Packers’ fifth snap and was limping. The Bucs had so, so, so many chances for a score. Hell, even ghostly Michael Johnson forced a Rodgers fumble at midfield (before he vanished for good).

What did the Bucs do with the ball? Not a damned thing.

In the first half, McCown completed but four passes in 14 attempts. That is just horrible football.

Joe is sorry, but there is simply no way Jameis Winston would be worse than Josh McCown.

Poor Mike Glennon.

    Fire Lovie !

I’m sorry, too, Joe, but you’re credibility at judging QBs has gone out the window with the horrific play of John Manziel. Nothing you say about a QB matters to me. But I do love your site. Thanks.

  3. bucrightoff Says:

We can’t draft and start a rookie, we’d be getting him killed with that offensive line. No QB can survive behind this piss poor unit, it’s easily football’s single worst unit.

Trade down twice in the 1st round….new HC…maybe new GM….build the foundation first….QB in 2016

Its not for non sober adults either I can atest to that.

  7. HawaiianBuc Says:

Even the best GM’s in the history of the league miss on a QB every now and then, so I would cut Joe some slack (even though he’s literally only played 5 quarters of football. A little too early to make a determination, but that’s how Bucs fans roll). I’d still rather have Johnny Football than either of our QB’s.

  8. Wilder 32 Says:

I completely agree with Joe. No rookie qb can possibly do worse than McCown. The defense will be solid from the start next year. Despite the numbers this was a solid effort by them against a top notch offense. Very promising for next year.

  9. Casual Observer Says:

But, as I recall, Joe was very upset for drafting number 13 instead of Johnny Football in round 1. Could be wrong though – I’m just a casual observer.

  10. CB Buc Says:

New coaching staff, trade out of the #1 pick and build the team..a rookie QB, first overall, fixes nothing.

If the Bucs keep Lovie – please no – a QB is a wasted pick.

  11. HawaiianBuc Says:

I don’t understand the offensive line. I just don’t see how they can be this bad. However, I notice that we almost never go into max protect. We are always sending out 4 or 5 guys to catch passes, but leaving our dreadful OL to get manhandled play in and play out. Why???? I don’t care if we block with 9 guys and run a one man route – freaking do it every now and then!!!! If they suck, then give them some help!! Don’t keep running the same crap over and over. How many times are we going to run the same damn running play? Here’s a little hint: when Stocker motions into the fullback role, we are running to his side. 100% of the time. Go back and watch the game if you think I’m lying. Go back as many games as you want. That’s not on the players, that’s on the coaching. Where’s the deception? That’s why I think (or hope) we are tanking. We’re not even trying to fool the defense.

  12. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

Schiano would have done better in his 3rd year than Lovie in his 1st….explain that HawaiianBuc

  13. cbell96825 Says:

cb buc i beg to differ andrew luck number 1 with a new coaching staff seamed to work out fairly well. just saying

  14. Bird Says:

Gotta go QB and two Olineman with 1st three picks. Pathetic play by offense. Get trestman from bears for offensive coordinator when he is fired.

  15. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Joe

“no way Jameis Winston would be worse than Josh McCown.”

That’s what is known as a ‘straw man” argument. I don’t think anybody here disagrees with you. I think some of the posters believe there are many, many, many QB’s better than McCown. Many of them are sitting on the bench of other teams. E.G. Just how much better is Derek Anderson than McCown. In fact what NFL QB is worse than McCown. We can always find a QB better than McCown so that is not the question.

It seems to me that folks argue over whether it should be Jameis or Marcus and some wish to rebuild the lines before getting a QB secure in the knowledge that we can ALWAYS find a better QB than McCown.

But I take your point and agree with your frustration. I like Mariota over Jameis because I’m a huge Aaron Rodgers fan, but I’m very cool with us drafting Jameis. I’ll simply keep my fingers crossed hoping he doesn’t go all JFro. on us. But I wouldn’t be upset if we take that gamble.

It will however be a total travesty if we draft one of the Heismans and do not score one of the best OC’s in the game. Along with that OC the Glazers should promote Todd Licht to GM.

Yeah Licht has the title but it’s time to take ALL the power on personnel decisions and the draft away from Lovie. It’s time to tell him behind closed doors that his boring style doesn’t sell tickets and the Glazers want to join the new millennium and OPEN UP THE FREAKING OFFENSE!!!!

  16. johnnytheMOON Says:

Joe ..not sure why they bring up Manziel all the time …but i would take Manziel over McCown …and yes Winston or Gradkowski ….this McCown has played QB as bad as i have ever seen here …..

  17. Bird Says:

Or work a Redskins. Rams trade for rg3 for 1st overall pick and get several quality high picks for future. Got this weird feeling that bucs may beat saints and give up top pick to peeve fans even more cause new Orleans has nothing to play for now since losing to ATL.

  18. DB55 Says:

I’d like to see martin run the screenplay, he’s always rushing up the A gap and he’s not going anywhere they might as well try to get him the ball outside. Mankins is still killing us. Why would you put gilkey and Allen to try to stop clay n peppers? That’s just flawed.

What a catch by Vjax. Apparently mclown still doesn’t know the playbook either that is if we even have one. (See – Jeff tedford quitting to be the hc of bc lions and taking his playbook w him as intellectual property) jk. Nice to see ME13 getting some YAC. It was only a matter of time until he got called for PI.

But the OLine, Oh Boy! Ain’t NOBODY got time for that! Good lawd Jesus it’s a fire. Hmm I have no clue what to do there, keep Dotson and pray you can find 4 lineman and a OT. Stunts get them everytime. Not to mention they don’t engage in contact, slow off the ball and they avoiding contact. Get’em w that belly u fat f*s.

Oh man Lovie Smith. Your boys stepped up today with that goal line stand, it was absolutely awesome, but it’s blatantly obvious why you lost your OC. Two words: Mick and Clown!!!!

  19. CB Buc Says:

cbell: Andrew Luck was a can’t miss prospect – pro style offense in college – and there’s no one like him in this draft.

The combination of Lovie & Mariotta/Winston would be a mess

  20. buccoon Says:

I dont comment offen but the shit i seen today should get somebody fired.. immediately!!!!! Start with the starting quarterback then the starting center next should be the starting guards then the tackles even dotson.. next should be Murphy, herron, shepherd, then myers and stocker..now on defence clayborn has to go along with johnson gohlston english then the other johnson goldson foster… this were things get interesting next u have to fire the offensive coordinator the offensive line coach the tight end coach the running backs coach. Next you have to fire the defence line coach the linebackers coach the safety coach the cornerbacks coach. Now its time to fire the head coach and the general manager after all is complete… you draft winston and offensive line. Everything else can come thru free agency.. then u hire head coach in gm… i dont care who the coach is winston will m bring a winning culture to the bucs… i wanna see rahim morris coach again u never deserved to be fired but second chances come to everyone

  21. Bucnnole Says:

I’ve been screaming since training camp about this lousy garbage o line. Oneil Cousins couldn’t start on a D1 school and Gilkey will be selling you a super sized fries with your order in one week. CLEAN HOUSE. George WARHOP… Gone. Kevin O’dea… Gone. Cousins, Gilkey, L.Johnson, Goldson, Collins, EDS, Stocker, m.Johnson, Mankins, and Omamaeh….ALL GONE

  22. Waterboy Says:

That a boy McCown, only 1 more to go!!! Keep up the good work!!!

  23. Bucnnole Says:

Oh, and Arroyo, McCown, and Fletcher too… GONE

  24. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Glennon is better than McCown, but he isn’t being played either. McCown is just a sorry excuse for a QB. How he is still under contract is beyond me. Not sure he is practice squad material.

  25. Java Says:

Bucs offense is good for one thing, increasing beer sales. Lovie’s offensive line changes have all been horrible.

  26. Espo Says:

Hey with fans getting struck by lightning after the game the odds are they were Packers fans. Fondue anyone?

  27. Brandon Says:

I hate Glennon more than most and have supported McCown more than just about all… but halfway through the 2nd quarter I felt that Glennon needed to be the QB. It’s pointless to play McCown. He takes sacks just like Glennon, he’s no longer more accurate than Glennon, and Glennon won’t make the boneheaded mistakes…though McCown’s lone INT was more than excusable considering it came in hurry up mode trying to get quick points.

  28. DB55 Says:

    Buccoon

You had me up to sheppard. Best ST player we got and always steps up when called up. Other than that you’re calling for a complete explosion, a nukification of 1BP.

Idk I think getting rid of mccown is a good start. Next let tandy play over mcdougle hes a bright kid but Tandy has talent n experience. Stop playing so much zone it kills me to see LVD getting burnt out there. Man up blitz play like you got a pair. LVD off the D gap, only seen it 3xs and banks twice. Send them boys send them to hurt somebody.

If Lovie keeps playing a field goal battle we’ll have no chance of ever winning games.

  29. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo thinks we should trade our 1st pick for Louis Vasquez & Manny Ramirez Olinemen from Denver” Bring in Mark Sanchez and get Jeff Garcia out of retirement for QBs….then organize a jailbreak for Aaron Hernandez……that should fix things. Pablo knows what’s best:”

  30. MadMax Says:

One more to lose….then trade down…..O line with our 1st Scherff or Peat…hopefully we have 2 2nd rounders, then offer one of them to the Panthers for Derek Anderson or maybe go after Nick Foles and say bye to McClown….

  31. DB55 Says:

    Brandon

are you referring to 8:57 left in the 2nd qrt where we had 0 yards per play at the time? Yea that would be a good hint. Lol

  32. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Max, we might be able to get Peat with our 33rd pick.

  33. IdahoBucsfan Says:

I say: “Fire the Liar”! “Josh McCown gives our team the best chance of winning”. Does ANYONE believe that? Lovie the Liar!

  34. Mike Glennon Mob Says:

I hate Glennon more than most

Why do you hate him? What has he done to you to deserve such vitriol? All he has done is work hard and kept his mouth shut while playing behind an obviously inferior QB and offensive line. Let go of the hate. Sheesh…

  35. Buccfan37 Says:

Lovie said before last weeks game that McCown gave them the best chance of winning. This week prior to the game Lovie changed that to McCown gives them the best chance, dropping the words to win. Lovie tanks good.
