Bucs End Seasons Of Gerald McCoy, Austin Seferian-Jenkins And Louis Murphy

December 15th, 2014

Mccoy2014

For the third time in five years, Gerald McCoy ends his season on injured reserve, Lovie Smith announced today.

McCoy has a “knee sprain,” Lovie said, that should not require offseason surgery.

Rookie tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins and veteran wide receiver Louis Murphy also were placed on injured reserve.

“None of these are injuries that will keep them out of circulation for a long period of time,” Lovie said.

McCoy finished with 8.5 sacks, one less than last season.

Lovie said Seferian-Jenkins did enough to impress and proved that he can play with pain. The big rookie had various injuries through the season, including an ankle sprain on opening day.

Regarding Murphy, Lovie said he did enough to return next season and was impressive, especially, for coming off the street and contributing.

    Why not Foster too?

Smartest move you could have made in that situation. He needs to be back at 100% next year. This season is a wash. Only thing he’d be playing for is stats. I’d be fine with putting LVD on IR as well. In fact, I’d treat these last 2 games like pre-preseason games. Rest most of your starters and see what the backups do

When did ASJ’s season start? Guy is kellen winslow part 2

McCoy should have never played yesterday. ASJ, well, obviously a horrific start to his career, as Tim Wright is now assured of having better numbers this season. Not looking like a very good pick of ASJ, or a swap of Wright out and ASJ in.

ASJ needs to get his fat ass in NFL shape for next year….

  8. Pickgrin Says:

Glad to see McCoy shut down for the year after knee injuries the last 2 weeks.

Time to bring some guys in off practice squads to fill these emptied roster spots and see if we can find another keeper or two for moving forward.

  9. sho-nuff Says:

beat me too it joejoes…asj is a soft fat slob….

  10. sho-nuff Says:

go figure another partial season from your franchise

  11. Mr. Patrick Says:

Can Bucs put Lovie on IR?

  12. Patrick in VA Says:

@sho-nuff – I think ASJ just suffers from being a young dude that likes his own press clippings too much. He talks a good game but just doesn’t seem to ever be playing all that hard. He just sorta lumbers around the field.

  13. bucsfaninchina Says:

Uhhhhh cut ASJ a break please? Since before we drafted him he was having problems with lower-body injuries. Like Joe said, he was playing hurt and being off your feet does things to your body (i.e. adding an extra tire round your belly). I know this is the time of year where Bucs fans get especially spiteful, but sh it man, the guy is still a stud and needs some time to get healthy before receiving judgement from you jokers.

    GB will annihilate the Bucs.

  15. Buccfan37 Says:

For Sale, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Only prerequisite, have a frigging clue at what it takes to compete.

  16. Fishfries Says:

A lot of ASJ hate from commenters on this site. Did people expect him to be gronkowski year one?

  17. Patrick in VA Says:

@fishfries – I can’t speak for everyone but I expected a bit more out of him. I’m not writing him off as a bust but he’s on the radar. If the injuries were plaguing him all year then there should be a big upswing next year, along with a legit off season with the team, and it’s no big deal. But if he looks like a plodding oaf next year like he did this year then it’ll be tough to get behind him. I’m hopefully though.

  18. Dewey Selmon Says:

Is there a highlight of him leaving in his bath robe?

  19. Ray Rice Says:

Didnt see a difference with or without McCoy yesterday. Bowers actually showed effort. JOE your man beef ASJ sux. Ive been telling you since day one. Yet you still found a way to defend his sorry a$$$$. Put his jock strap down JOE. Your man beef is done. I didn’t expect ASJ to be a pro bowler but showing heart and effort doesn’t require pro bowl skills.

This will be one long, cold, bitter off-season. Good luck Lovie smith you’ll need as much as you can get. This will be sink or swim for licht. Whoever decided to sign Ja Smith needs to take the reins and whoever decided to trade barron wright and Revis needs to stfu and go sit in a corner.

Sooooo much work ahead of us. New oline, more pieces on the dline that are better than spense English fatikum and bowers. New QB, please get a real RB not this sims fellow dude is not ready for the NFL. He’s more like a soft Reggie bush than forte 2.0.

Secondary sucks, lbs need depth, the whole team needs to be re-engineered. Good luck mr smith. Godspeed. As for asj and mccoy, we got a lot of work to do. Less smile more angry.

ASJ – we hardly knew ye!

This guy’s highlights – Captain Morgan pose and fumble in OT! Whoooopee!

  22. JonBuc Says:

Jenkins was an awful pick…comparable to other 2nd rounders Dexter Jackson # deux, Sabby The Goat, Brian Half Price, A. Benn-Dover, Bowers…..

  23. Cannon Fire Says:

This is the best season that you are ever going to see from ASJ. The more that guy plays the more he hurts, ain’t never going to change

  24. tgreg Says:

Can we put Lovie on IR for lacking a brain?

  25. Walter White Says:

This is great news! Yes, Lovie’s brain has been on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list indefinitely. As others have stated GMC had no business suiting up yesterday. Lavonte should shut down too. There’s just no reason whatsoever to risk it.

  26. teacherman777 Says:

I also noticed that ASJ looked chubby, soft, and weak.

    Yes, @ucfanchina

lower leg injuries can hamper a rookies physical evolution,

BUT he is a pro. He should be doing a ton of ab and arm work.

He should be getting THICK while hurt.

    Not FAT.

    These guys need HIPPY diets.

No alcohol. A few bowls of sticky per week.

    And an all natural diet.

Shoot, Your career is over after 30 anyway!!!

So migh as well AVOID ALCOHOL while you’re playing.

Cuz you can drink as mch as you want after 30 or 35 (if you’re a freak like Woodson or Ronde)

  27. Caradoc Says:

Lovie making sure the tank does not get screwed up. Not taking any risks on missing out on Winston

  28. ddneast Says:

Bucrightoff, are you really that ignorant or just stupid.
I liked Tim Wright, but he is not a complete tight end. He is more of a pass catching TE. Not a very good blocker because of his size.
Wright, like any other TE in the Patriots system, benefits a great deal on the double and triple teams The Gronk receives.
    Take your blinders off.

  29. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

You idiots ragging on ASJ thought McCoy sucked when he was injured his first two years. You would have cost us one of our best players if you got your way.

  30. Fort Myers Dave Says:

ASJ and Sims both were nonproductive this season and when ASJ actually did make a play like the TD in the ATL game he went Captain Morgan and put the Bucs D in a bad spot thanks to the personal foul; not what is expected from a high 2nd round pick. But these 2 and a few others will get mulligans as Lovie will simply pile all the blame for the offense’s failure on Marcus Arroyo who was really put in a no win situation and also conveniently enabled the Bucs to probably get the 1st or 2nd overall draft pick (go Titans, beat the Jags!) unless they do something idiotic like beat the Saints to end the season and then pick 3rd or 4th at worst. What will be interesting to see will be who the Glazers bring in as new offensive coordinator, if it is Lovies choice or will is his power be diminished as punishment for allowing Licht to make such bad personnel decisions that led to this trainwreck and how these cast of characters (offensive players not released) actually react when given an actual NFL offense to run. Do the Glazers make Lovie fire Licht and bring in a strong GM independent of Lovie? This franchise seems as clueless as it was in the Culverhouse Creamsicle days; it has been since Malcolm Glazer had the stroke, the Glazers got entangled with Man U and the brats got control of team operations…..
