Demar Dotson Move Might Be Permanent

Jason Licht talks about today’s major lineup change

The way Bucs general manager Jason Licht talked about Demar Dotson today, it sure seemed like Dotson’s relocation to left tackle was not just a one-time thing.

Dotson slid left and played reasonably well for his first game at left tackle. It could signal the end of the Anthony Collins era.

Licht jumped on the Buccaneers Radio Network before the beating by Carolina today to talk about the change.

“He has grown into a very good player. One of our bright spots. He’s a great athlete. He’s long. He’s tough. And we want to see what it looks like on the left side,” Licth said of Dotson. “He’s definitely athletic enough and definitely strong enough.”

Licht called Dotson “a great find by the regime at the time,” referring to the former Bucs rockstar general manager Mark Dominik signing Dotson as an undrafted free agent in 2009.

Joe’s assuming the Bucs want to see more than just one game from Dotson. Why not three?

Anthony Collins, 30, has been terribly inconsistent and not durable. Dotson is worth the look.

Who the hell names their baby boy lovie?

Dotson is a free agent and will cost 5-7m/season. If he continues to play well at LT that price will go up.
I thought he played very well today. He’s by farvour best lineman.

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo love Demar Dotson and thinks he is a real stud. Pablo would let Demar sleep on his mattress in Pablo’s lawn anytime and Pablo would love to see Demar on Pablo’s stripper pole”

Bring in Stanford’s Andrus Peat…6-7 315 and close to a 5 flat 40. Good athlete and then figure out which tackle goes where. Peat and Dotson would make great bookend tackles. We probably pick up an extra pick or two for the #1 or 2 and then go for the QB in a later round.

I just haven’t seen good things happen for teams that pick Heisman Trophy winning QB’s first. Insofar as there is a “curse” of under performing Heisman winners, it seems to affect quarterbacks disproportionately. Although certain Heisman winners have gone on to win Super Bowls (Roger Staubach and Jim Plunkett), comparatively few have had successful NFL careers.

And so Cam Newton…good but not world beating…Carson Palmer good but not world beating then you have to go back to Vinnie Testeverde.

Never have I seen a more inept o line as Oneil Cousins.

    @ Matt

Dotson is locked up under contract through 2016

    @ StPeteBucfan

I’m with you…..would like extra picks and perhaps pick up Petty or Hundley in a later round…..we need a couple of Olinemen….probably a DE & a MLB…..
Fixing the OC & Oline could do wonders for us.
Whoever we choose to be OC will probably control the decision….if we struggle to find a top OC, then it will be because Lovie & Licht won’t give autonomy.

Thank you God for your perfect will to let the Bucs snatch a loss from the jaws of victory.

I also thank you for giving us the courage to give up the butt for the qb duck!

    And go shameless for Jameis!

Its a great move that was a long time coming. He is absolutely more suited physically to play the left side

  11. Brandon Says:

Permanent? I’ve been saying that Dotson should be our starting LT for the past 3 seasons. Try Collins on the right side, he can’t be worse than Cousins. Dotson is a stud and his skill set is ideally suited for the left side…plus, don’t know if anybody else noticed, but most of Doug’s successful runs came on runs to the left.

I’d Rather watch RB Tim Tebow play QB then endure another Josh “Wannabe Farve” McClown start. Bash all you want. IDGAF! At least he know WTF an audable is.

Dotson won’t resign with the bucs….. Hope lovie knows that

  18. DallasBuc Says:

    That man is an idiot

  19. Meat Says:

Why won’t he resign with the Bucs? I always think a comment here and there is from a Bucs player/ coach/ staff. If I was Schaino during those dark lonely December nights pre-firing- I would have come to the boards to anonymously defend myself to the critics.

  20. Meat Says:

Fire our entire staff for the Lovie of God. Terrible pun for a terrible position coach.
