Larry English Helps Bucs Cling To No. 1 Pick

December 14th, 2014

Joe knows plenty of Bucs fans will be sending gifts to backup defensive end Larry English tomorrow.

Perhaps roses are in order.

Early in the fourth quarter today against Carolina, with the Panthers leading 16-10, Derek Anderson was intercepted by Bucs linebacker Orie Lemon at the Panthers’ 43 yard line.

But hold up!

English was called for roughing the passer. Carolina first down. The Panthers marched down the field for what turned out to be the game-winning field goal.

The Buccaneers’ hold on the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft was not relinquished.

Joe roots for the Bucs when the whistle blows, but Joe also desperately wants Tampa Bay to get that No. 1 pick.

Joe will not be sending English a present, but Joe lovingly will remember English forever if the Bucs find their way to the No. 1 pick.

Who does Lemon think he is trying to win a game!!!

  4. Waterboy Says:

Whew thank you Larry! Keep up the good work for the remainder of the season.

  5. Buc Rogers Says:

#1 pick baby!! Keep it up and we win the toilet bowl!!!!!

    Dog feces > Lovie Smith

I’m so glad you guys are happy we lost to the stinking Panthers and kept their playoff hopes alive.
You’re probably excited to know that GMC is out for the season….

As far as English…..one of the few times we get in Anderson’s face….it’s with a hand when we intercept…..”It’s a Bucs Life”

  8. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

We have a guy on the team named Orie Lemon?? Since when?

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Other players contributed……how about the missed Int from Verner?……McCown not protecting the ball inside our 5….finding how to lose.

  10. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

    @TBBF

the fact that Liar Smith’s defense got absolutely shredded by podium crybaby Derek Anderson TWICE is enough for his termination, let alone all the other terrible things he has done to this team.

  11. Alexstotle00 Says:

I said last year that Aaron Donald is better than Clowney
And this year Randy Gregory is better than Leonard Williams.

“I’m so glad you guys are happy we lost to the stinking Panthers and kept their playoff hopes alive.”

Absolutely!!!! This is a reoccurring theme and didn’t just start! Where is the value with Lovie as a HC in winning???

I don’t believe in Lovie – I don’t think he’s the man to lead us.

  13. Mt Tom Says:

Looked like English was doing everything he could to swat that ball. The replay even made it seem he eased waaaaay off when he missed so he wouldn’t “brain” the amazing Derrick Anderson. I guess, since the rule is what it is you might as well just slap the crap out of the QB. Because it certainly didn’t look like English had any intention of doing anything other than making a play on the ball.

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo wonders what kind of name is English?….Pablo thinks his name should be Spanish” Pablo is very happy the Bucs lost to the Panthers because Pablo thinks losing is better than winning”

  15. bosscantworkmytoehurts Says:

Whew we snatched a loss from the jaws of victory! Keep up the good work boys just 2 more games. Man up you can do it. Just keep playing like you have all year!

  16. tmaxcon Says:

Pablo needs his own blog. He has a great mind

  17. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Guys! There is ONE consistent factor in our suckitude since our SB win. We can blame Gruden/Allen Rah, Schiano and now Lovie. The beat goes on and the list just grows longer.

Now answer me this. What is the ONLY consistent thing about the Bucs since their SB win. The SAME ownership. We really need a change.

  18. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Larry for team MVP.

  19. StPeteBucsFan Says:

OK it’s been said a thousand times already but how sick are we watching Bennett make play after play for Seattle coming off the edge. And what is missing in the Bucs D? The genius who made that deal should be fired!

    Oh wait he was!

  20. Soggy Says:

Me to joe, don’t like to lose but I want the 1st pick now, We need the 1st pick if lovie can manage to do the right thing with it and the later rounds = QB, upgrade the Oline and what ever else we can squeez out.. Can lovie see past McCown? If lovie does not see the real needs and go get them the Lovie hate fest will be much worse than schiano’s last year..

  21. Maze Says:

    Thank you Mr.English. Oh and F U Lovie you’re a joke

  22. Desanova Says:

Thank the ref on that if you must because that would not always be called, but I’d rather have a W. As usual, there’s lots of people to “thank” for today’s L.

  23. Matt B Says:

It seems that I am one of two fans that is p/o’d we lost again…I figure the draft will take care of itself. What is meant to be will be. Lovie screws it up anyway.

  24. BlakeJohnson Says:

Who are you kidding Joe? Thank the referees if you’re going to thank anyone. That has to be one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen.

  25. topcoach1978 Says:

Orie you idiot you almost won it for us……lol

  26. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Yeah Matt B, what will all these Winston fans think when Lovie drafts a DE out of USC or the Stanford OT with that #1 pick???? Losing sucks and I can not cheer against the Bucs like some of these so called fans do. Anyhow, I can see English getting released by L&L as part of their housecleaning and then have him show up as a saint or Falcon next year and sack whoever the Buc qb is 3 times; this time no roughing flags…

  27. Joe Dunn Says:

    JOE – – – I agree with you.

Have you thought about how much potentially that the Bucs would need to give up to trade into the #1 spot to get the QB we need??

And forgive me if you have already covered this – – I dont read ALL the articles that are posted.

    I hope for a 2-14 finish.

  28. JH Says:

Joe, I’ve already mailed him a box a chocolates. It’s pretty sad that is a penalty in today’s NFL. Larry hardly touched him. Oh well. The Bucs better see this one through.

  29. Brandon Says:

That was a crappy call. He barely touched him. Shouldn’t a blow to the head be significant enough to actually call it a blow to the head?

We played them tight, again. I thought Derek Anderson was a big improvement in the passing game over Cam Newton, all the Panthers fans around me were thinking the same thing.

  30. Fort Myers Dave Says:

If the Glazers did not owe so much money to Schiano it would be a good bet that they would terminate Lovie as the season ticket holders are probably cancelling in droves; who the hell is going to pay good money to see Lovie and his inept coaching staff lead the team to loss after loss each year. The losing is now expected and expected each week as this team can not learn how to win. Perhaps the coaching staff is tanking like an NBA team but I doubt that… I have been a Buc fan since ’76 and this team is simply the worst squad to have played since the Leeman Bennett Bucs of 1985/1986 that won 4 games in 2 seasons where the Bucs last got the overall pick twice: Bo Jackson (’86) and Vinny T (’87) under the watch of the world’s cheapest owner Hugh Culverhouse and neither pick worked out.. I’ll bet if the Bucs go qb next year in the draft, he will likely be a bust like Testaverde, that is the luck the Bucs have now….. It was not until 1995 that the Bucs had 7 wins or more and 2 years after that Dungy finally had them into the playoffs, a whole decade after they last lost 14 games in a season. Realistically with Lovie as coach and Licht as GM this team could be just as far off from winning as Leeman’s boys; I wish the Glazers would take a history lesson and cut their losses but they will likely stick with Lovie simply for the coin and like Culverhouse will simply not care when no one shows up to games next season. This team can not even beat other 10+ loss teams, and the roster has so many holes its a good bet they go 2-14 again next year so all the fans who are happy with the losses might as well keep cheering for losses; its going to probably continue until L&L are fired for incompetence after the baby Glazers are done paying for Schiano but by then this team will be even worse off than it is now judging by how Licht wasted money and cut talent last offseason….

  31. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

@Joe Dunn …as of right now the Bucs have the first pick in the draft. So no need to move up at all for a QB.

  32. chargedcbh Says:

I am the biggest Bucs fan, I have been my entire life. But let’s get real, what’s the point in winning? Today I was screaming for the Panthers! Are you kidding me, think about the players this franchise has had or could’ve drafted. I would trade 3 games for a possible franchise QB we can have for years to come.

  33. Joe Dunn Says:

87 – – I know but if we win a game it will mess everything up!!!$@$#%$#%$

  34. Bucfan4life Says:

Me too charge. I was actually ecstatic when the Lemon pick was called back because these dumb asses keep playing like dumb asses. Big picture. What would be the point in winning and finishing with a 3-13 and dropping 5 spots in the draft. There is a lot of upside to having the number one pick. As inept as this entire franchise is these days I was sure we were going to do the wrong thing and win today. Just two more losses baby! We have to do this because it’s about the future now.

  35. chargedcbh Says:

Hey Bucfan, who do you want at QB?

  36. "that guy" Says:

are you kidding me ? that was the worst call (out of MANY bad calls) that i have seen go against tampa all year.

  37. Fort Myers Dave Says:

    The only thing that worries me is if the Titans “catch” the Bucs in SOS as they lost to a 3-11 Jet team today (amazingly tanking late on a 4th and 17 deep in Jet territory) and the Bucs lost to a 5-8-1 Panther team. Bucs have the Pack and saints still to lose to and the Titans have the Jags (2-12) and Colts ahead so I am curious if they can still overtake our inept Buccos as they gained some ground on strength of schedule today and it appears that they will be looking for a qb as well….;

  38. Marcus Dominus Dominick Says:

As your future imperator after my first regime had a year set back I shall reward the plebs of Nebraska and Fletcher Ave. Dale Mabry Highway will once again be my kingdom, where fellow rock stars join me mocking you idiotic people of Tampa.

I Marcus Dominus Dominick am intelligent enough to trade away our number one pick and gladly add FSU Safety/RB Karlos Williams. Boom two birds with one stone. Any detractors like Michael Sparatacus Bennett and Aqib Talib will be banished from Tamponia.

That idiot Chipp Kiley couldn’t use Arrelious Benn, I must bring him back to Tamponia at once!

    Marcus Dominus Dominick

  39. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Dave

I think the Titans still have a good shot to pass us on SOS but we’d still be at two which begs the question for everybody.

Will those demanding a QB be happy if they have to take who is left between Jameis or Marcus. Reminds me of the Suh McCoy draft.

  40. pittbucfan Says:

WAS a bs call, but thank you!!!

  41. pittbucfan Says:

WAS a bs call, but thank you!!!

  42. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Hmmm, I guess it will be in every Buc fans best interest to cheer for the Titans when they travel to Jacksonville; that 3rd win should knock them out of the #1 overall derby. But yeah I see the analogy of Winston/Mariota and Suh/McCoy; whoever gets 2nd choice will probably still be happy. I just hope the qb the Bucs targets doesn’t become a lost cause like Sam Bradford was from the Suh/McCoy draft….

  43. Espo Says:

SMH @ all of you who are happy for that penalty. I sure am glad to be on the same side as all you loyal fans.

  44. Just lose '2 more' baby!! Says:

How about pretty boy fumbling on the 4 yard line? say thank you..

  45. bucs4lyfe Says:

That was a stupid call and it was soft, when the qb is throwing the ball you put your hands up, offense is all go and defense has all these rules they have to try to think about in the heat of battle…. Soft but bucs aren’t nationally televised so the refs don’t care

  46. Paul Says:

I’ll bet that Larry English is smarter than Joe and 95% of his readers.
