“What The Fans Really Care About”

December 12th, 2014

Whenever sports analysts, players or team officials speak for the fans, Joe’s ears perk up.

Often, that’s a dangerous slope.

Don’t mess with the masses.

(Side rant: Joe is annoyed that Gerald McCoy and Josh McCown have referenced how losses are harder on dedicated players than they are on fans, because those players have worked so very hard for months to prepare. Man, Joe hears that and it feels like McCoy and McCown don’t realize there are people out there, for example, who spend a week’s salary to go to a Bucs game with family. Some fans make tremendous financial efforts to attend games — hours worked and money not spent on other things — effort that represents labor and dedication as much or more intense than the players’.)

Veteran Ch. 10 sportscaster Dave Wirth, however, is comfortable speaking for Bucs fans in his weekly video game preview. He believes he knows what “the fans really care about.”

Do you agree with Wirth?

I think he’s spot on. Don’t screw up our draft position for so-called “pride”. Whats the difference in being 2-14, 3-13, or 4-12? Not much except you get screwed in the draft. The Bucs are a crappy team who have had crappy luck this year. Start next year off right with the 1st overall pick and get “the guy”.

  2. mikeh Says:

yes pick marcus mariota not pinhead crableg!

  3. mikeh Says:

that’s why I fear this pinhead don’t care about picking a QB. in the draft at all we shall see!

  4. CC Says:

Don’t screw this up.Play for the first pick to keep the fans from losing complete interest in this shit show of an NFL team. And McCoy and McCown . F.U. Try doing what most fans do for a living. Assh*les.

  5. CC Says:

McCoy and MCown. You are paid to entertain. Guess what.Your not.

  6. Greg Schiano Says:

I don’t care what pick you have….if we do not get new coaches who can motivate the players to stop talking and start winning….does not matter if the Bucs choose Marcus or the Rapist, the Bucs are still going to lose.

I will bet anyone $100 that Bruce Ariens, Chip Kelly, Jim Harbaugh could win more games than they lose with the Buc’s current roster!

The problem is the HC and his band of merry misfits!!! Fire them all!!!

That is what will make this fan happy!!

Money makes your head swell up.

  8. Zam Says:

Don’t forget the extra sales tax everyone in Hillsborough has paid to provide them with a nice place on Dale Mabry for them to be winless at.

“McCoy and McCown don’t realize there are people out there, for example, who spend a week’s salary to go to a Bucs game with family”

^ Yes THIS!!! I have spent so much on this team and I just cant take it anymore. I thought Schiano should not have been fired but was ok with the move to Lovie. Hindsight is always 20/20 but what a HORRIBLE move that was. Im sure Schiano would have had us at least in the playoff conversation in this sorry division. I havent given up on this team but I wont be going to any more games next year. It wasnt even a hard decision by the family, thats sad…

  10. gatrbuc17 Says:

And with the Number Three pick in the NFL draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select……..Brandon Scherff………OT out of the University of Iowa

  11. Ray Rice Says:

Ey JOE about dang time you address Aunt Geraldine opening his mouth. You have not completely come around but its a start. Our YUCS got ripped off paying $100 million for this loud talker. He can hold up a heck of a block though. Maybe he should play both ways and play OL and see if the YUCS can get a return on their investment.

I’m sure these are the same fans that say “Lose Baby Lose”…..or Tank for Mariota.

Makes a lot of sense…….make all that sacrifice to root for more losses….

  13. Bucs Fan #237 Says:

Fans want a play off team.

They want to be in the hunt, have a chance… you know, a reason to watch what is supposed to be entertaining?

Then after the play off hunt, they want to win some play off games, eventually a few in a row.

Then they want to be in the Super Bowl, and it sure would be nice to win it all.

Ultimately every fan wants their team to win a super bowl.

If you can at least get to the dance, then at the very least you have a chance.

  14. Biff Barker Says:

What Bucs fans really want to see is competitive professional football, not overpaid coaches and players making excuses.

“The fans need to be patient”. “We’re working hard and getting better everyday”. The tired rally calls are old news.

This franchise needs an inspirational HC not some power hungry, disingenuous fossil who is stuck in he 1990″s.

  15. Biff Barker Says:

Case study #1: Side rant: Joe is annoyed that Gerald McCoy and Josh McCown have referenced how losses are harder on dedicated players than they are on fans, because those players have worked so very hard for months to prepare.

    Case study#2: “Eventually it happens”.

Glad these guys aren’t paid by their performance. They would be starved by mid season.

Aside from a half of dozen players, I don’t like much about this team.

  16. StPeteBucsFan Says:

“Whats the difference in being 2-14, 3-13, or 4-12?”

Duh. Winning and losing! More importantly between winners and losers.

If this team somehow defeated both Carolina and New Orleans to close out their division competition, forget Green Bay I don’t think that one’s doable, but both the Panthers and Saints are beatable.

This is a young team. If it was a Jon Gruden team of burnt out old free agents then I wouldn’t care because they’ll all be gone next year.

I don’t think it’s EVER too late to establish a winning culture for these young guys. Yeah too late for THIS season but this season can dramatically effect next year.

Win all three if you can! And then there is this obvious but often forgotten or overlooked wisdom from TBBF.

This franchise is not going to turn around on one decision. It’s going to have to get straight. And while I’ve hesitated to join the Lovie bashers he personally has been as big a failure this year as Michael Johnson and the rest.

I know this won’t happen with the Glazers because of money but Lovie should already be on notice. One more year dude!!!!!! You get one more chance.

I’m not talking about a set number of wins, but I AM talking about knowing how many offensive players are on the field, not having to call time out before the first freaking play of the second half because you’re not prepared, and all the boneheaded penalties.

These are not because our talent was getting overwhelmed physically but rather mentally. Yes it’s on the players but that is one of the most important ingredients a coach has some control over. He may not be able to coax a quick 40, or great acccuracy, or hands, but he can influence the mental component greatly.

In short Lovie did not have this team prepared.

One of the major things I expect as a fan is proper preparation and effort. I think this team gave a pretty good effort all things considered. But they are dumb, undisciplined and they are used horribly by their coaches,

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Here is a list of our last 10 years first round picks along with players available when we picked….
Proof positive that it’s not where you pick….it’s who…..

I know this is monday morning quarterbacking but nonetheless….our drafts haven’t produced and we have had plenty of high picks…

2005 Caddilac Williams Demarcus Ware, Aaron Rogers, Heath Miller
2006 Davin Joseph Santonio Holmes, DeAngelo Williams
2007 Gaines Adams Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch, Darrelle Revis
2008 Aqib Talib Chris Johnson, Jordy Nelson
2009 Josh Freeman Robert Ayers, Jeremy Maclin, Alex Mack
2010 Gerald McCoy (can’t argue here)
2011 Adrian Clayborn Cameron Jordan, Cameron Heyward
2012 Mark Barron Ryan Tannehill, Luke Kuechly
2013 Darrelle Revis Sheldon Richardson, Star Lotulelei
    2014 Mike Evans (looks good)

We basically have McCoy & Evans to show for 10 years of 1st round picks….

  18. CC Says:

    @ Tampabaybucfan

No, its who’s doing the picking.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ CC

    No argument there…..

  20. OB Says:

The fans only care about a few things, one is a team they can be proud of, another is an area that people want to live, someone on their arm who turns heads in a great way, and money and/or a job that everyone wants. The Bucs organization is not doing its’ job.

  21. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

The Bucs might beat the Panthers on sunday but they will beat Greenbay believe it.

  22. ddneast Says:

Been a loyal Bucs fan since 1977 and al though it does darker the day, if not the week, when they lose, For the most part I would have to agree with what McCoy said.
Unfortunately there are stlll a few players on this team who aren’t that concerned if they win or lose.
I would put Dashon Goldson and Michael Johnson in that mix. Does anyone want to cite any other player.

  23. J Moné Says:

McCoy David sit your asses on the bench please

  24. Todd Says:

Have the bucs made changes with there scouts because they blow a ton of draft picks ? Fans are really fed up I really want to lose the last 3 games! Then draft mariota and I can have hope for this team again!

  25. Fort Myers Dave Says:

STPeteBucsFan and TampaBayBucFan make great points. One guy is not going to save this franchise and I do not think the roster has totally quit on Lovie like they did with Rah in 2011 and with Schiano last year and thus they are going to try and prove their worth against Carolina and the Aints. You have to try to learn how to win some of these games that so far have become close losses, Pittsburgh being the exception…. On the other hand it may behoove the Bucs coaching staff to see what is really on the roster and play everyone down the stretch ala exhibition season and you never know, they may find the diamond in the rough that wins them a damn ball game. And lets be clear the chances of Winston or Mariota becoming an Akili Smith, Tim Couch, RG3, Crying Leif, or Jamarcu Russell are higher then the Bucs finding the next Andy Luck. Chances are the Bucs lose out but the coaching staff has to see who has quit and who still wants to win….

  26. Chuck Says:

As a diehard Bucs fan Ive been pulling for losses the last couple weeks.. Pick whoever wins the Rose Bowl!
