Report: Mike Williams Waived By Bills

December 8th, 2014

mike williams 0211Shunned by the Lovie Smith regime for a mattress on his Tampa front lawn, a blade in his thigh, and other dangerous shenanigans, former Bucs stud wide receiver Mike Williams was traded to the Bills in April and is now a free agent, per the Associated Press.

The report claims Williams and Buffalo reached a “waived injured” deal. The Bills pretty much gave up on Williams when they transitioned from quarterback E.J. Manuel to Kyle Orton.

Williams, 27, had eight receptions this season for 142 yards and one touchdown in very limited action.

Prepare to hear more about Williams as Mike Evans is about to slash Williams’ rookie marks from his standout 2010 season, when Williams had 65 catches for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Evans, with three games to play, has 57 receptions for 935 yards and 10 touchdowns. He’ll need a beastly finish to match Michael Clayton’s rookie marks at wide receiver. In 2004, Clayton caught 80 balls for 1,193 yards before turning into a blocking icon.

Joe’s not worried about Williams. His thigh is healed, and he’ll find a job. Even Preston Parker is still around (Giants, 30 catches) from the Bucs’ 2010 receiving corps, though that’s about it. Arrelious Benn, Dezmon Briscoe, Sammie Stroughter, Mo Stovall and Micheal Spurlock are all out of the league.

screw it….bring him back in for a look if nobody else gives him a try….wouldnt hurt.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Good Riddance!!! We’ve got the only Mike we need!!!

  3. Jon Says:

Awesome Joe. Bang the Dom haters. Still Mike will has the record for TD’s as a rookie but hope Evans breaks it! I still don’t know how L&L messed this up all the way? Spent all that money, missed picks on OLine. RB Sims looks average. Traded Zuttah and wright. The OLine make over disaster. Joe, I bet the wide receivers group for the eagles or ravens isn’t the same for them in 2010 to now either so it’s really not that big of a deal.

  4. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

Williams was the No.1 when he got those numbers. No VJax. Don’t know what the hell happened to him. He made some freak circus catches and was a damn good No.2 behind Vjax. He will find work.

  5. buddhaboy Says:

Nope , he is a loser. Check out his lame video.

  6. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

Wait, how long has Spurlock been available? Last I heard he was returning pretty well for the Lions? Why the F didn’t we pick we up? He’s ten times better than anyone we have thrown out there this season.

  7. Pickgrin Says:

Yet another Bucs player who checked out mentally once he got some $ in the bank.

Mike Williams was a solid receiver for the Bucs for 3 years. 23 TDs in 3 years (most ever by a Bucs receiver in 1st 3 years) is proof.

But the second he got “rewarded” with a pay raise and a new deal before the 2013 season which included $15M guaranteed – he was done.

Apparently the pre-draft concern over his character which caused a 1st round talent to slip to the 4th round where the Bucs drafted him was ultimately justified even though he played well for 3 years.

As much as I believe that QB Winston has the most talent at QB in this year’s draft – perhaps we can look to what happened here with Williams and also with Freeman as a sign that we should stay away from acquiring any players who show signs of red flags regarding character before they get here.

  8. gatrbuc17 Says:

Williams is a dumba$$ just like I believe Winston is. People like that think they are entitled to get away with stuff normal people can’t all the time. It is a problematic personality and is not easily cured. A bank vault full of cash certainly never helps.

  9. Amar Says:

    Joe,

“…before turning into a blocking icon.” LOL!!

  10. Zam Says:

It’s easy as a fan to forget how short all but a very few of these careers are.

  11. cbell96825 Says:

i still remember this guys first career td against the browns

  12. Connor Says:

It doesn’t mean he’s not any good. The Bills didn’t give him a shot. Watch him go to New England and revive his career there.

    This is what we need

  14. gatrbuc17 Says:

We need Scherff. Listen to the bio on this kid
Scherff was recruited as a 280-pound quarterback out of Denison High School in Iowa where he was also a fast-ball pitcher (mid-80s), a basketball star that averaged a double-double, a varsity letter-winning tennis standout as a freshman, and a state champion shot putter as a sophomore. Although his 6-foot-5, 321-pound frame passes the eyeball test, Scherff is much more athletic than he looks.

He has a vertical jump of 32 inches, which is great for an offensive lineman, and can clean and jerk 400 pounds over his head. According to a report on ESPN.com, Scherff ran a 1.58 in the first 10 yards of the 40-yard dash.

  15. buc4lyfe Says:

So much for making the bucs regret trading you…. Did we draft another josh Freeman at qb and wide receiver….. It’s so uncomfortable and strange listening to ESPN nfl podcast having to sit there and listen to mark Dominic talk about what winning gm and losing gm should be focused on, how can you listen to that without wanting to burn his house down

  16. Zpope Says:

Bring him back why not? This team has very little talent on the offensive side of the ball.

  17. Jon Says:

    @buc4lyfe
You should totally burn your trailer park down, that would be an awesome protest.

  18. MadMax Says:

@gatrbuc…I want Scherff too….and watch the strength he showcases in this vid

  19. Eric Says:

Bring him back we haven’t won sh*t with Lovie Version of a Buccaneer man go get some damn football players not damn citizens of the year candidates!

  20. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Gatrbuc17, Scherff is a monster, that is the prototypical LT that the Bucs (and most of the other NFL franchises) would use to anchor an OL for at least a decade. The Bucs need to solidify the trenches and this guy could be the cornerstone. Of course he will be gone in the first few picks of the draft so unlikley the Bucs could trade down and get him unless its just a one spot drop with a team like the Jets or Deadskins. Plus I’d like to see athe reaction from all the “Winless for Winston” and Mariota mobsters if the Bucs go OL in the first draft. But yeah, this guy looks as good as Joe Thomas was when he got pegged by the Browns and he’s been to like 6 or 7 straight pro Bowls, something else the Bucs have never had before…. Plus, much greater chance Scherff grades out and performs than the 1 in 3 dice roll you take with a top 3 pick QB (Akili Smith, Tim Couch, J Russell, RG3, and Cryin’ Leif come to mind)….

    MadMax Says
“screw it….bring him back in for a look…”

    Two things

    1) he’s injured, hence the injury settlement
    2) His production dropped dramatically.
    3) are you insane????

  22. MadMax Says:

Point taken Bonzai…and yes Im a little insane, oh you didnt know 😉

  23. port richey george Says:

give him a low ball contract for one or two years. he could be the 3rd wide receiver. he could also back up evans and Jackson.
    murphy and hereon need competition.

  24. ddneast Says:

LOL. I know you didn’t literally mean that about Dominick’s house. I understand your frustration with this blow dried, prep school looking flunky.
Terrible drafts headlined by Josh Freeman has left our bench bare.
Unfortunately, as we our witnessing first hand, it’s hard to tell how a player is going to perform once he has all that guaranteed money in his pocket.
Williams was a great deal at a 4 pick, but why they gave him all that money when there were already reports of his bad behavior is beyond me. We were lucky we were able to unload him and his guaranteed cash.
We did the same thing with Quincy Black. The guy was as soft as margarine and hardly ever made a play but we gave him a fat contract.
For one reason or another, I see no QB out there worth tossing away a No. 1 pick on. Winston is a time bomb who throws INT’s against good college defenses. Marietta is a spread offense with an inaccurate arm.
Find someone stupid and hungry who will trade a 1 and a 2 for our 1.

  25. MTM Says:

Williams will need to pull up his yard mattress and move onto the next team. Maybe the Raiders could use him.

  26. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    lol

  27. ddneast Says:

BTW all you Tim Wright lovers chew on this.
First off, I liked Wright when he was here but his blocking skills were suspect because of his size which is basically the same as Vjax and Mike Evans.
Secondly, he is having success there because of the coverage on Gronk. It’s easy to get open and catch TD’s when the other tightened is triple covered.
    Grow up you imbecilic morons.

  28. nate Says:

If history tells us anything he will be on the patriots soon!

  29. Another J Says:

We dumped him for a reason…
No good reason to bring him back, He’s still a headcase!

  30. Vince Says:

Williams is NOT the prospect that Mike Evans is. They’re not comparable. It’s just meaningless conjecture if anything tries to draw any connection between the two.

  31. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

    Stop stepping on my handle…

  32. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

More time to spend with the Caveman Gang now.

  33. Mike10 Says:

I get why you want to, but you can’t compare him to Evans.

Williams was a FOURTH round pick, behind McCoy, and therefore had that much less invested in him. Hell, compared to recent drafts, that goes down as one of our better ones..

The sheer fact you ARE comparing the two is quite the complement to Williams.

  34. BucIt941 Says:

I wouldn’t be against throwing a fliers chance on him. Bring him in and let him compete for a roster spot. Worst comes to worst release him. Best case scenario he becomes a strong #3 and add’s versatility to our dunkaneers.

  35. Howard Cosell Says:

Nothing against Williams, but I’m glad that the Bucs were correct in
releasing him. Same thing with Blount. He’s showing why the
Bucs released him with his pouting in Pittsburgh.

The Bucs still missed big time with Bennett, Zuttah, Penn and Revis.
If we had kept ONE of those guys we might be 8-8 and owning the
    sh***y NFC South.

  36. Kaptain Morgan Says:

Two questions, how old is Michael Clayton ‘The Blocking Icon’ now and can he play O-line?

  37. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    CAPTAIN CAAAAAAVVEMIKE!!

Once again, he’s nothing like Jameis Winston. Williams is lazy, didn’t take his rehab seriously, and football is clearly not his passion but rather a way to fund the Caveman Gang.

  38. Dre-Day Says:

    Bring him back.

  39. pick6 Says:

mike williams’ value to the bucs at this point is as a cautionary tale to mike evans. if he ever comes back to RJS, hopefully it’s only as a ticketholder. or concessions vendor – he and his clique seem to have spent an awful lot of money
