Lovie Smith did, in fact, say football doesn’t really begin until November.
So maybe what made Joe cringe during yesterday’s news conference should have been more expected.
Lovie was answering questions about the Buccaneers’ decisive win in Washington and backhandedly said the Bucs played their first complete game.
“Play 60 really hit home for us,” Lovie said.
Joe’s immediate internal reaction was, ‘What the hell took so long?’
Joe must learn from Lovie and not dwell in the past. So it took the Bucs 10 games to play 60 minutes, to take a lead and drive it home. History will look at that as no big deal — as long as the Bucs start playing with tremendous effort from start to finish and winning more than they lose. That’s not too much to ask.

I would be prepared to play 75. Losing OT games seems to hurt more.

I would argue it didn’t take them 10 games to play 60 minutes. It took 5-1/2 years!!

All the more reason to cast doubt on this regime……aside from the problems on the field, what should strike fear is the inabililty to evaluate pro personnel…..and where the draft focus might fall…..
Let’s see how they do against teams we know can play, the Redskins cannot, the Bears, well, they’re a disaster as well……beat a team like Cincinnati and then everyone can proclaim that perhaps the corner has been turned.

He still has the same record as Schiano at this point last year. One win doesn’t mean much really. Let’s see if they keep it going.

At this time of year the teams in the playoff hunt are usually the better competition such as upcoming games with Detroit and Green Bay and should be a much better gauge of where things are with this team.
I am more anxious to see those two games than the Chicago game. A win over Chicago would be some nice momentum going into those though.

Regardless of anything else, the Bears game will tell the tale. We beat the Steelers and we lost, I believe, five more until the Redskins. Same kind of win. So right now every five games, we wake up.
Plus the weather forecast for Chicago on Sunday is a temp between 34 and 52 with rain to heavy rainstorms and winds between 14 and 32 MPH. They say the rain in the afternoon will bring warming temps to the 50’s. Doesn’t sound like a good passing day for anyone.

Well lets see if the Bucs can “play 60” up in Chicago and manage to get a win….. If they do play a complete game and actually win then I really think that fans will start taking the spew that Lovie has been dishing out a little more seriously. Right now he reminds me of the first GM of the Devil Rays; Chuck Lamar; one of the best BS artists to grace the Tampa sporting scene….
That being said I think OB brings up a good point about the weather; a sloppy field with windy conditions sounds like it may be an advantage for Forte and Da Bears running game as the Bucs running game shown up for the Lamb game and then the first half of the Brown game only to disappear again…. Perhaps Sims can add a wrinkle the Bears are not anticipating, maybe McNown gets some throws off to VJax and ASJ as its a good bet the Bears will be paying special attention to Mr Mike Evans. Heres to hoping the Bucs get win #3, but this has all the feel of a trap game for Bucs fans who have a little hope; though I thought the same thing last year when the Bucs went to Detroit and actually won…..
