Trestman: Bucs Offense Has Recovered

Bears coach Marc Trestman thinks the Bucs have recovered from the loss of offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford.
Joe has written repeatedly that when Bucs offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford left the team due to health issues in August, it was the equivalent of tossing a hand grenade into a china shop.
The Bucs offense, all the work that was put in since January, through minicamps and OTAs and training camp, was blown up and left in the hands of someone (Marcus Arroyo) who, through no fault of his own, was terribly over his head.
And it showed. But after putting up 27 points on the road in both of the Bucs’ wins this season (thus far), Bears coach Marc Trestman believes Tampa Bay has finally recovered from Tedford’s exodus.
Trestman, prior to joining the Bears, logged 10 years in the NFL with various teams as an offensive coordinator (including a stint with the Raiders when the Bucs defense clobbered Trestman’s charges to win the franchise’s lone Super Bowl). So clearly Trestman knows something about being an offensive coordinator, but when asked how much losing Tedford hurt the Bucs, Trestman declined to comment because he did not know the inner-workings of the Bucs.
However, Trestman did say the Bucs have finally recovered from the wreckage that was left in Tedford’s departure.
“The reason you have coordinators is to bring it all together,” Trestman said. “When you are missing that component, certainly everybody has to pick up the slack to be able to do that. It is apparent the Bucs have — this past week — been able to do that. I think that is a credit to each and every coach on the staff to get that done. You are certainly missing a component and Jeff is a highly regarded football coach.”
Is the Bucs offense playing better than it was? Sure it is. Does that mean the Bucs have been able to move past Tedford? Joe isn’t so sure.
On Sunday, the Redskins converted more third downs than the Bucs. They were five yards shy of what the Bucs pounded out on offense and had three times as many rushing yards as the Bucs.
No, Joe isn’t about to type that the offense is totally fixed after losing Tedford.

20 points in the best and only decent offensive showing of the entire year (minus a running attack) does NOT a “recovery” make.
Hopefully the offense will continue to improve – and if the Bucs can beat the Bears on Sunday – maybe -just maybe that would contribute to Trestman getting fired which would greatly increase the chance that Marc Trestman would be calling plays for the Buccaneers next year.

What difference does it make how washington’s offense did as a gauge to judge how the Bucs offense did. I don’t remember our offense playing against our defense on Sunday.
However I do think the offense has improved but it certainly isn’t being utilized at even 60 percent effectiveness.
Still very few screens being run and when you are running 90 percent run on first down, you certainly aren’t being very imaginative or keeping your opponent off balance. Very few rubs being rubbed as well.
For Atlanta game I gave him a D and for Skin game a C plus. Sorry, but when you run 90 percent on first down that brings your grade down despite the win.

The Defense and ability to connect on the deep ball for TD’s helped. Now only if the other rookie who JOE claims is a man beast can get involved we would be ok. But until now he hasn’t shown anything but the ability to drop passes and commit dumb penalties. (That comment is for my avid follower @Hawaiian)

Good piece Joe but you missed the part about the ad hoc L&L OL and all the absolutely stupid penalties.
The mental mistakes to some degree were but neither of these are Arroyo’s issues.

I didn’t see as many plays ran last week where the defense already knew exactly what was coming from the Bucs offense. I’ll just take that as a good sign of things to come.

ZERO running game, tight ends aren’t a factor, no slot receiver, very few screens or any passes to the RBs, and V-Jax is not involved and looks disinterested.
Other than the bombs and jump balls to Evans, this offense is horrid if not downright pathetic.
Love Evans but a good defense will take him away and then what do they have?
Arroyo & Co. have a lot of work to do…

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t this the first game where we had no turnover….(fumble or Interception)……yea….we muffed a punt but that’s not considered a turnnover…
If so, that had a great deal to do with our offense’s success…..

as fans and analysts, we’ve been starving for some positivity and last sunday provided a little. it would be a mistake, however, to say the bucs have turned the corner. their play was as sloppy as it was in the minnesota, new orleans, and numerous other games we did not deserve to win in the least. we just happened to be outdone in the miscue department once again. we are a couple missed deep balls (antonio brown & desean jackson) from a soul-crushing 0-10. if we can keep forcing turnovers, we can compete despite the mostly inept offensive output.

Yawn…call me when this team wins 2 games in a row. Beat a lousy team, that we should beat anyway, and all of a sudden our season is turn around? The offense is fixed?!! Puh-lease…half of this roster still needs to be overhauled along with the coaching staff!

Our offense is far from being recovered. 3-10 third down conversions. No rushing attack at all. I was there. The pass blocking was really good, I’ll grant them that, but then the run blocking was pitiful. Keep in mind their starting nose tackle got hurt, which could account for the better pass blocking. If our big guys can keep Josh on his feet we should do okay. If our big guys can open up holes for whoever runs the ball, well, we’ll win. Now that our esteemed rookie got some time on TV, other teams will worry about him. Good. That might free Vjax up. So, it seems our hopes of a successful season turnaround (offensively) pivots around the big guys up front. If we have more takeaways than giveaways and break 100 yards rushing I can almost bet the farm we’ll win.

Really…. Should have beat this team? Then why were they favoured? Why do they get more sacks and pressure and have a better offense than us? Malcontents you play who’s on your schedule and by all accounts redskins should have destroyed is which is why no one was picking the bucs to win including their own fans
