Report: Tedford “Didn’t Feel Like Returning”

November 14th, 2014

TedfordcoachinghardWhoa!

Harsh words were typed this morning about Bucs offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford, who left the team in September following heart problems in August.

PewterReport.com chieftain Scott Reynolds offered a powerful, unsourced take in his latest column. Reynolds implies Tedford jilted the Bucs.

The reason why Tedford was placed on indefinite medical leave was because he didn’t feel like returning after he was cleared from his heart surgery. That’s about all I can disclose at this time due to HIPAA laws. Tedford has a right to privacy regarding his medical conditions, and I’m going to respect that right.

At the same time, the Bucs were expecting him to return by Week 4 and he chose not to for reasons the team thought he could ultimately manage, which deeply upset some inside the organization.  Tedford most likely wouldn’t be welcomed back at One Buc Place because the organization feels like he left the team – and quarterbacks coach Marcus Arroyo – in the lurch.

First, Joe is confident HIPAA law only applies to employers and employees, not reporters. But that’s not too important here.

These are very strong claims by Reynolds.

Joe’s heard loads of things about Tedford, but Joe’s not big on anonymous sources.

Joe will say it is awfully odd that Tedford has completely disappeared into a cone of silence. Joe has long suspected that money is a major factor here, as it relates to contract terms and insurance policies Tedford and/or Team Glazer have that connect to Tedford’s availability to work.

Also, as Joe wrote earlier this week, Lovie Smith needs to be prepared to hire an offensive coordinator in 45 short days. Joe sincerely hopes Lovie will be ready.

    Bucs life!

  2. FanOfBucs Says:

Move on. Get a better coordinator and WIN!!

Also, as Joe wrote earlier this week, Lovie Smith needs to be prepared to hire an offensive coordinator in 45 short days. Joe sincerely hopes Lovie will be ready.

    This.

    This is all that matters.

  4. lightningbuc Says:

Joe, most “inside” sources don’t/can’t be on the record, so they have to be anonymous. Watergate involved anonymous sources. It’s up to you guys, the media, to vet the source and decide if you want to run with the information.

As for Tedford, this makes perfect sense. He realized Lovie is a Boob and didn’t want anything to do with him. Not that there is a good time for a heart issue, but it seems the timing was right for him to wiggle out of a bad situation.

Please don’t lecture Joe on sources. Tedford’s disappearance, and unwillingness to speak about his own condition or status, or issue a statement, raises Joe’s antennae.–Joe

  5. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I had a stent placed in my Heart, and was back to work in Days! I hope the real truth comes out about Tedford.

  6. PhillyBuc Says:

Add him to the long list of Coaches jilting this franchise. Let him be and move on to the next disastrous hire.

  7. BucFan20 Says:

And once again here come Reynolds as he always has with his usual garbage. This is why I quit paying and even going to PR a few years ago and came here. He has always come up with some unfounded crap but won’t back it up with fact.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    WTF?

We selected all offensive players in the draft….and one can only presume that Tedford played a big part in that…..

Maybe he wanted to re-sign Josh Freeman and was shut down!!!

  9. Patrick in VA Says:

@Lightning – Your first point is a strong one and something I’ve felt for a long time. People knock the anonymous source all the time as some spineless, untrustworthy person who should be disregarded but a lot of times they’re people who want to keep their job and are just trying to answer a question honestly. If it’s not your source, speaking to media folks, then you have to determine how well you judge the vetting ability of the person who has the source. Just because they want to keep their job that doesn’t make their information bad or invalid.

As for your second point, if Tedford wanted to get out then he would have done it during the year he spent with Lovie prior to this season.

  10. Matt Says:

The guy might have had a heart attack and didn’t want to go back to one of the most stressful jobs a person can have.
    I don’t see the issue.
Health and family are well above job and sports or else your priorities are severely fe*(ed up.

  11. Matt Says:

    If it’s even true.

  12. Thegregwitul Says:

This is why Lovie will get another season, even if the Bucs finish 1-15. The team missed on a bunch of free agents and they have to get that right in 2015, but Lovie is generally hands off the offense and if this report is true, and I do believe it is, the team had the carpet pulled from beneath them and it resulted in a disaster. Lovie is totally excused, of course, but in the end this bottoming out might finally result in the Bucs landing a franchise QB, which should be an intriguing piece for a new, ideally established offensive mind to work with.

  13. Vic Says:

Unless Reynolds talked to Tedford himself, then this is all throwing stuff against the wall. The man had heart surgery and isn’t coming back. Pretty straight forward.

  14. DallasBuc Says:

I joked early on that the FA talent or lack there of is what gave Tedford heart trouble. I probably wasn’t far off because he spent the offseason with LovieDovie&Co and saw that these guys are frauds. I fully believe SRs reporting on this and would not be surprised if Tedford is coaching somewhere else very soon.

  15. Thegregwitul Says:

My goodness I didn’t mean to write totally excused…I meant to state that Lovie is not without blame here. My bad, yikes.

  16. DallasBuc Says:

“Speed in space” as it relates to Tedford’s exit strategy from this sinking ship of a team!

  17. billy buckaroo Says:

For whatever reason-the whole situation has turned out be rather Bizarre to say the least. Probably never find out the whole truth in this but regardless it has caused the Offense to operate like a bandaid situation which shows.

Hopefully it will get addressed soon.

  18. Chef Paul for Brandon Scherff Says:

Heart problems will do crazy things to your head. I know a guy that wont leave town, because he doesn’t want to be too far away from his doctor. I worked with another guy that had a heart attack, came back like 5 weeks later, and just didnt have it in him any more, and eventually quit.

I’ll never judge a man by how he thinks after having heart problems. It’s not my life. It’s his.

  19. BucFan20 Says:

Who was upstairs with a headset on after is surgery? Why was he there? If Lovie was screwing with the offense? Tedford had been telling coaches what to do and call the plays.

  20. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

Like I said, it all comes back to Tedford. It makes one wonder if a Glazer ancestor ticked off a Indian chief in upstate New York. Our team seems to have an evil eye over it.

  21. Patrick in VA Says:

@Chef Paul – That’s a good point. I’d say his family is happy to have him there with them after the complications he had. Who knows whether the next one will be his last and it won’t help his family feel better to know that he spent that time with the Bucs.

  22. 941 bucs fan Says:

People keep saying Lovie will be back next year because he has no Offensive Coordinator… Our defense is worse than our offense. And our offense sucks MAINLY because of our OLINE that LOVIE put together from scratch. From Overpaid and Barely Played Anthony Collins. Too a trade for old ass Logan Grandfather Mankins, to Green Bay and Ted Thompson would never let a franchise center go aka Evan Dietrich Smith, to NO right guard at all!. L&L should be Fired, and it would not upset many bucs fans…trust me

  23. rhenry Says:

Lovie should ask Dungy for Clyde Christison’s phone number.

  24. Mike10 Says:

So much negativity surrounding this team!… its funny

  25. lightningbuc Says:

Joe’s awfully grumpy today. A lot of us have been reprimanded today. But it’s cool – trying to derive an income off of a turd sandwich year after year would take a toll on me too.

  26. Bogiedr Says:

@chef paul, you get it! Thanks for understanding. The rest of you, heart problems affect everyone differently. Because you were back at work in days after a stent, does not mean everyone can or should be able to. Not reason to belittle anyone who can’t be back that soon, if ever.

  27. bucs4lyfe Says:

Hippa laws apply to everyone especially a reporter but what concerns me is if the Glazer boys are obligated to pay him anything.

Let’s not be silly. HIPPA does not apply to reporters or media writing about subjects, unless the media/reporter is a healthcare provider or employer. –Joe

  28. gatrbuc17 Says:

If you’re going to start your comment by saying “I know this is off topic but” then don’t do it. Save your Jameis Winston love for the next Jameis Watch post.–Joe

  29. The Buc Realist Says:

I guess tedford is way smarter than he looks, Congratulations on keeping your name away from the dumpster fire that is the Bucs Season!

    #1more_year_of_lovie_till_bucs_start_over!!!

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The new OC will have a huge influence on what we do with our QB position….and we may have some insight before the draft…..we will have our new OC near January…..
Hopefully L&L will select an OC that has near total autonomy with the Offense….

  31. crazy Says:

Poor performance from guys who’ve played well before sure makes your wonder if playing for Lovie isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Maybe Tedford’s failure to return is telling us coaching under Lovie isn’t all it’s cracked up to be either. Sure hope not…

  32. gatrbuc17 Says:

    REALLY
So I cant talk about what MY BUCS team since 1976 means to me JUST because it doesn’t pertain to THIS Particular Article?
WTF is this? the USSR circa 1980s
Ive been to more Bucs game than both of you Joes put together.
Go ahead and moderate this comment out too

Sir or Ma’am, this isn’t a free speech zone, nor is it Russia. It is a comment section where Joe asks that comments at least be related to the posted article. It’s not that complicated. When Joe sees a blatant violation, then Joe will bring it up. It’s nothing personal. And as for the USSR, as least they allowed jaywalking there, something you can’t do on Dale Mabry Highway. –Joe

  33. gatrbuc17 Says:

And you must not have read the comment thoroughly or you would see that there is No love for Winston in me

  34. buddhaboy Says:

Its a bucs life. Cant Win for losing.

  35. Justin Says:

Enough of this drama garbage. Way too many “bizarre” stories surrounding this organization last couple of seasons. I actually feel bad for people who pay for the season tickets. Because they get no real answers.

Last year with Schiano there was a ton of hype. Bucs got Revis. Freeman going to lead a great offense. And then after the third game, the Bucs and Freeman divorce with no explanation. None. The fans doled out their hard earned money and the franchise QB vanishes like a fart in the wind. And fans are left speculating.

Fast forward to this year. Tons of free agent signings, new coach, new schemes. Lets go. Bucs might make some noise. Buy tickets. Folks, #itsabucslife.
Nope. Free agents bust. New defensive scheme cannot be grasped by players. And Lovie’s handpicked OC has an emergency medical procedure prior to the first game. Tough situation. But he never returns. NEVER. Tedford and Lovie became friends during their fired/paid offseason. They planned their return to the NFL for months upon months.
Its remarkable to me that he would just never return to the team and go into hibernation. If he does, thats fine. But the fans are owed an explanation. Something.

Way too much mystery at One Buc Place. It’s ridiculous. Its dysfunctional. Its Oakland Raider like. And its no coincidence the dysfunction leads to poor results on the field.

Lovie has to own up to this failure:
    Why won’t Tedford return?
Why on earth did you no get help for Arroyo?

I’ll say this about Raheem. At least he had the balls to remove his coordinators and tell the people it was a mistake and why the Bucs were moving on.

I know winning will cure all problems. It always will. But the disconnect between the Bucs and the fans can be tied to all this ridiculous drama this year and from years past.

  36. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

If this is true it is BS. If they knew after week 4 he wasn’t coming back then they should have found an OC to help this team for next year. Why wait until the off season to start to learn a new Offense. Just start it now…I mean what is the worst that could happen?

  37. ander Says:

this is the guy lovie smith chose to be in a basement and study football with tedford. i thought he would be loyal but i guess he rather back off and just get paid, on another note alot of ppl are giving arroyo alot of heat for his plays or playcalling. but damn give the guy a break he wasnt even brought here to be an offensive coordinator.

  38. Robert 9 Says:

chef paul gets it. best post yet.

and if you already know there is major stress be it for lack of talent, contract, not enough control, racism or whatever.

check out before it effect your life.

I raise a beer to Tedford.

  39. ElioT Says:

    Speed in Space BABY!

I’ll bet Mike Tice is available!

    #APATHY

    Go Sucs!

  40. buddhaboy Says:

this all comes back to lovie. This is all new territory for him. And needless to say, he hasnt exactly handled it well.

The decisions he has made or havent made, has only contributed to NOT stopping the bleeding.

I am very challenged right now in thinking this guy will get this team turned around.

  41. The Buc Realist Says:

The bucs are not going to get a good Offensive Coordinator! who is going to sign up when Lovie is on the hot seat!! It will be a 4 game try out next year before a full on Lovie revolt starts!

  42. flmike Says:

This goes back to running it on 3rd and goal from the 7..Tedford saw that and said, nope, just can’t do it. If you remember, thats the play they showed him grabbing and shaking his head in the pressbox….

  43. Espo Says:

HIPPA applies to those who take the oath. Medical professionals take the oath. I doubt had to take the oath for his current gig but it’s still the moral road to take. Plus it would probably violate company policy.

  44. Robert 9 Says:

I’m convinced lovie does not give a rats a$$ and that he only took this gig for one last retirement check.

I understand no emotion and level headedness.

but this is more than that, this is a guy IMO that HAS NO FIRE IN HIM WHATSOEVER to win.

  45. Espo Says:

*I doubt Reynolds took the oath.

  46. me Says:

Please don’t anyone say Mike Martz, as lovie fired him in Chicago after a year. Looking for names? Here is one with local ties…………………………Lane Kiffin

  47. mike Says:

I said this weeks ago. tedford found out how much of a moron the head coach is and jumped ship! I don’t blame him.

  48. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Maybe Harbaugh would come (laughed a little) if he could pick his QB in next years draft? Bring in Ryan as DC. Fantastic, let’s go.

  49. buddhaboy Says:

    kubiak

  50. Patrick in VA Says:

    @me – he fired McCown once too…..

  51. bucrightoff Says:

This now makes 5 offensive co-ordinator (or 6 if you wanna go Tedford and Arroyo seperately) in 10 season for Lovie as a head coach. Odds he doesn’t hire a good offensive co-ordinator? Roughly 96%. Dare to dream he finally gets one right though.

  52. BucBob1 Says:

Lovie should ask Dungy, for Les Steckel’s number too, in case Clyde Christianson isn’t interested.

  53. Robert 9 Says:

lovie can’t hire any strong coaches because they would either be to strong willed and cause strife or they would not take the job.

we’re skrewed with lovie as head coach IMO. I agree with the guy before. that 3rd and 6 run call with Tedfords facepalm was his ah ha moment, fuk it i am out of here.

    and who wouldn’t.

  54. gatorkmk Says:

HIPAA doesn’t just apply to those that ‘take the oath’. It applies to all organizations that collect medical information from individuals. Your employer cannot disclose your medical conditions to other individuals, because of HIPAA regulations. For example, if you call in sick and tell your manager you have the flu – your manager cannot disclose to other employees that you have the flu, there are exceptions for ‘vital business purposes’.

Reynolds would not be covered under the regulation, but an employee of the Buccaneers would be. If the information leaked from the Bucs, a violation could be brought against the organization (it doesn’t have to come from a complaint by Tedford) that could cost significant money and additional oversight.

  55. LJ'sDaddy Says:

While I agree that Joe seems a little grumpy today. This website and the information posted here is far from a turd sandwich. I think some of the comment posters is what may take a toll on Joe. Joebucsfan.com is one of my favorites I read it every day.

  56. Couch Fan Says:

All coordinators will go. I say hire Schiano as D-Coordinator so he can show Lovie how its done! Lol

  57. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

Since we benched Glennon will the Panthers bench Newton? Same stats as last year and the same this year. Only difference is they have a defense.

  58. Patrick in VA Says:

@LJ’s – I think the sandwich he was referring to was the team

  59. lightningbuc Says:

^^^^ Correct, thanks. Definitely not referring to JBF as a turd. LOL!

  60. biff barker Says:

Reynolds wrote: “But the real culprit of Tampa Bay’s demise has been the offense, which was supposed to have been run by Tedford.”
    ————————————-

I don’t agree with this. At all.

Anyone think Tedford might have been disgusted with…

    1) The offensive line debacle.
    2) Lovie handpicking McCown.
    3) No QB competition.
    4) Maybe Lovie meddling?

Sorry. Something just isn’t adding up here.

  61. MTM Says:

Tedford wanted to stay consistent with “Bucs philosophy” sign a contract, collect pay checks and then quit. Well played Tedford.

  62. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

I wouldn’t blame Tedford for leaving with Lovie meddling, but Tedford was new to the game and needed to do this in order to help his stock. He is only hurting himself from any future jobs.

  63. pick6 Says:

the reporter is not directly covered by HIPAA, but if the reporter has definitive info about JT’s medical condition, his employer or some medical professional\institution involved in his care violated HIPAA.

  64. iamkingsu Says:

    @joe
Thanks bud! That’s some of what I needed. When you here more I’m confident you’ll post more

  65. iamkingsu Says:

But I’m sure there’s more to it than that sound like this might’ve been leaked by the bucs. There’s another side (tedford’s) then there’s the truth

  66. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

    LJ’sDaddy Says:

“I think some of the comment posters is what may take a toll on Joe.”

@Joe is that true? Ha ha ha

  67. LJ'sDaddy Says:

@patric and @lightning …we’ll I stand corrected. I see that now I have re read. And of course in that case you are absolutely correct.

  68. RastaMon Says:

After Tedford got up close and personal with Lovie……he said to himself….WTF !….

  69. BoJim Says:

Maybe Lovie told Tedford that the offense will be Tedford’s but can and will be overridden by the HC.

Cops see you jaywalking in Austin they’ll throw you face first on the concrete.

  70. Christopher Says:

Look many here are saying they were back to work in days after a stent in there heart. However no one knows the stress and hours put into this job. Coaches put in twice the amount of work than a normal 40 hour week. Some have had 80 hours logged. Some sleep in their office.

  71. Fuzzy Red Coin Purse Says:

Tedford left us with our cranks in our hand, so lets move on. As Large Marge puts it, “Whooooooo Cares!” We suck and I don’t know of any OC coming in when Lovie acts like he’s the King of Tampa Bay. “My way or the high way” it seems and if he doesn’t right the ship its gonna be the latter. Lovie your killing me with this mess, clean it up son!

  72. Patrick in VA Says:

It’s pretty ridiculous that people are knocking lovie for overreaching into the offense. His history says that he has no desire to be there at all. He doesn’t have an OC. The qb coach is there because someone has to be there. If lovie getsa legit OC in there I can’t imagine him being anything but more than willing to hand it over so he can focus on the defense that clearly isn’t where he wants it

  73. Fuzzy Red Coin Purse Says:

    Patrick in VA,
Lovie had a chance to bring in another OC and chose not to for whatever reason.

  74. Trevor Says:

Its rather obvious what has happened.
everything was on plan through the summer and Tedford was excited about the season… Then he has Dr. visit and they find a bunch of shit and he has to have major surgery ASAP…afterwards, his whole outlook on life and football is changed and he isn’t up for the task (i get that), but he doesn’t want to not get paid. So he uses the medical excuse to stiff the bucs rather than resign and forfeit his salary. Can’t blame the guy, but fans got F@*ked again in tampa.

Freeman, talib, Revis, Blount, Nicks, Barron, Penn, Zuttah, Joseph are all highly talented players that wasted away to nothing here in tampa.

we are the Bermuda triangle of NFL….can’t explain the bad luck and horrible happenings here, but it just happens and that’s Tampa Bay Bucs

  75. bucrightoff Says:

Lovie’s OCs are the first guys he fired in order to buy himself more time. By year 11 of his NFL coaching career he’ll be on OC number 7. It’s a death sentence to become Lovie’s OC.

  76. Tgregs Says:

I don’t understand the obsession with a guy that had called exactly as many pro plays as Arroyo. Bottom line is Lovie is an ass clown

  77. ddneast Says:

I literally have to laugh at all these monikers with “fan” included in their name who say the catiest mean spirited things about the team.
With fans like you clowns it’s no wondered the stadium is half filled every Sunday. You morons have never been to a live game in your lives so it doesn’t cost you a cent to keep you big fat butt on the couch while you load up on chips and beer and bemoan the team.
Cleveland has real fans. Buffalo has real fans. You guys are just chronics with nothing better to do in your sad pathetic lives.
Whatever the reason is, Tedford quit on the team. For chronics like you, that is something you would of course defend. It makes perfect sence to losers.
He knew what his deal was or he wouldn’t have signed it. So when it got a little tough, he quit. I repeat he quit.
If you losers think quitting a team is something’s to defend, it shows what type of character you possess as well.
Tedford will now no longer be able to get a job in the NFL though. Much like the loser who quit the Falcons years ago.

  78. Mike J Says:

I hope he doesn’t have any disability insurance scams in mind, a la a certain NT-turned-lawyer, well-liked by Bucs’ fans 15-20 years back….

  79. passthebuc` Says:

    I am sick. he says

I am sick of working with Lovie

  80. MIssingSchiano Says:

Please don’t lecture Joe on sources. Tedford’s disappearance, and unwillingness to speak about his own condition or status, or issue a statement, raises Joe’s antennae.–Joe

I agree with you Joe, the fact that he has said NOTHING raises my antennae as well. You are so right, there is more to this story.

  81. jlynch Says:

    the players and tedford quit

  82. Greg Schiano Says:

The players and Tedford are quitting on Lovie Smith! What does it say to you when the guy Lovie hand picked was driven to stress so intense that he has heart trouble and decides to pass on his first big break as an NFL OC?

The issue with the players and the coaches all stems from Lovie. He is not inspiring his staff and he is not inspiring he players. The failed experiment is over, but please don’t tell me anyone wants 2-3 more years of this?

The Glazers need to find the big time HC necessary to return this team to prominence! Lovie is not the answer and he is not going to improve! Lovie is the same as the Big Poodle….all blow and no show! Need to get one of these awesome, innovative college coaches!

    Greg Schiano

  83. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

ddneast…STOP calling out fans. It’s effing wrong. You don’t know ANYTHING about us. Yet pretend like you do and it’s getting old real fast.

People that aren’t real fans would not even be on this site. They wouldn’t even bother with it all at 1-8. So your making yourself out to look like a jack ***.

You write this looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong drawn out paragraph that FANS like me won’t even read. You wanna know why clown? Because you start it off with questioning whether we are true fans or not. Get a grip on yourself no one likes being called something that they are not. That includes your racist rant a few weeks ago.

    STOP IT!

NOTHING pisses me off more (that includes the race card)than someone questioning my fandom or love for this team.

  84. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    lightningbuc Says
“Joe, most “inside” sources don’t/can’t be on the record, so they have to be anonymous.”

That is the exact reason news cannot be trusted these days. It has become the norm for “reporters” to make up things and credit sources that they cannot name.

It allows the media to avoid accountability, and laws need to be passed that prevent such practices in some way. I, personally, think that sources can be confirmed in private by some authority so that there is accountability AND the source is protected. The source does not have to be publicly named to be confirmed.

You know, like it was in the old days. When media was held to actual “ethics.”

A lawsuit or three against lying bloggers and lying newsmen would solve the issue I bet.

  85. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    AS TO TEDFORD…

If anyone paid attention to my comments, I said the exact same things about Tedford a month ago. Didn’t have to name “sources” because anyone with a lick of common sense could see it if they looked hard enough.

Yet another confirmed case of me being right. Props to me…because I earn them. In your face people.

Disclaimer: This does not, in any way, mean I support the shoddy journalism style of Pewter Report. A “reporter” should never publish a story with unnamed sources. Period. Because if you cannot name a source, it isn’t a story, it’s a unconfirmable theory.

  86. Fort Myers Dave Says:

This season nothing surprises me with the Bucs; nonetheless the question has to be asked Joe: Vegas Inquiry on Tedford”? The +- on Bucs wins this summer was around 6.5 to 7 if I recall right maybe even a tad more; imagine the $$$$$ someone made if theoretically they knew Arroyo was going to be OC?

And conspiracy theories aside: Christ Almighty! The Glazers let L&L go with a bad college OC/qb coach instead of bringing in a new guy???? Even Rah was able to replace Jagodzinski with someone a bit more competent than this garbage OC! BTW: I saw a blurb in a local SW FL paper that coach Jag was actually coaching at NAIA Ave Maria down in the Glades, a new start up U founded by the guy who founded Domino’s, I think Jag moved on to Ga State but am uncertain. The point is that the owners obviously do not care if the GM and HC (L&L) embarrass the team with assinine coaching reaches and are willing to let the inmates run the ayslum…. Jagodzinski and Arroyo as OC’s on an NFL team; where else but with the Man U/Tampa Bay Glazer Bucs…..

  87. Oingo Boingo Says:

Theirony is that Tedfor wasn’t wualified to call plays at the NFl level anyway. It’s not that he has a bad heart; he has no heart.

  88. Jeff Says:

Good riddance you old f uck

  89. ddneast Says:

Also, I have never ever made a racist rant out here. The only time I ever brought race into play out here was when I said a lot of the hatred I was reading about Lovie was probably thinly disguised racism. I still believe that,
