Time For Bell Cow Bobby

October 31st, 2014

bobby rainey 1006Doug Martin was in the dreaded walking boot on Wednesday and he hasn’t practiced all week. Consider him out for Sunday.

This provides yet another huge opportunity for the guy averaging 1.7 yards more per carry than Martin.

That man is Bobby Rainey (62 carries for 287 yards). Rainey’s got 22 catches out of the backfield, too.

Are the Bucs better off without Martin? Maybe.

It should be interesting on Sunday. The Tampa Bay offensive line is struggling, to be polite, but the Browns allow 4.8 yards per carry, one of the worst rates in the NFL.

Given the 40-degree and breezy conditions expected in Cleveland, Joe suspects Lovie Smith will want try (yet again) to establish the running game. Rainey surely will get a shot at his second 100-yard game of the season, if he can find some daylight.

Mike James finally got one carry last week, and rookie Charles Sims is supposed to make his debut but Lovie seems to think Sims will need another week of practice to be sharp.

Rainey will get his bell cow chance, a potential knockout blow to Martin’s playing time.

Give James the ball more than once this week. I know he can run.

  2. RastaMon Says:

Bwhahahaha…take your pick of 5 Hall of Fame running backs…..NONE could do squat behind this offensive line

Who really cares Joe? I just don’t want to blow this draft pick slot like last year. Maybe we wouldn’t have got robbed with no gun by michael johnson because clowney was sitting at the top of the board

Some people thought that the previous coach for the Bucs was wrong for getting rid of Blount, Talib but the two of them are on their 3rd team. Stop blaming the coach especially Lovie because these players won’t turn into hall of famers under him. Look, some more of these players will be traded or let go and will perform better at their next stop but not at pro bowl levels. They’ll perform well enough to continue their NFL careers. Blount, Martin, Talib, Clay, Bowers, Barron will become marginal players who will do better than what they did in Tampa not because of the coaches but because they want that money and don’t want their NFL careers to end. Shiano had Barron play in the box and Lovie had him play a lot of coverage he did not excel at neither.

Hey…I understand every new coach and GM bring in “thier” players…….sad thing is this coach and maybe the GM….need to GO…we have the wrong guys calling the shots….Lovie has not shown ANYTHING !……lost in the past…the game and players have past him by….communication…bye in….is ZERO !!!

  6. Biff Barker Says:

Still don’t understand why this staff won’t use Mike James more.

  7. NewTampaChris Says:

Rainey ran for 144 against the Rams and the Bucs still lost to a third-string QB. It will take more than a good running game to win.

  8. Skyline Crew Says:

    Interesting stats for the O-Line:

TB is 30th in Run Blocking (SD and Phi are ranked 31 and 32)
TB is 29th in Pass Blocking (STL, MIN, and Jax are ranked 30, 31, and 32)

  9. Skyline Crew Says:

Our Left side is very weak and our Right side is only marginally better. However, if you want to run you should run to the Right side vs. our very weak left side.

  10. Chef Paul Says:

Rainey is getting more than 4.5 yards per carry behind this line.

Bobby must be better than an HOFer huh?

  11. ander Says:

bobby rainey can be a pretty solid starter if he didnt fumble the ball so much

  12. Zam Says:

Who cares, he had 144 yards v. St. Louis and they still lost. It’s a passing league. And we have a quarterback whose rating is 26th in the NFL, who takes sacks and can’t scramble for anything. Good plan.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

Zam …there’s a kid in Tallahassee that processes things 5 times faster than Glennon. He need to process things quickly too with this o-line.

  14. rayjay1122 Says:

    Bring on the fumbles

    L. Smith- Bobby, you need to really try to hold on the that football better. I know it is cold but we need you son.

    B. Rainey- Son? Son of a bitch, it is cold coach. I can’t feel my hands much less the damned football.

    L. Smith- You need to watch your language or I will be forced to cut you. Now I want you to really try to hold on to the football.

    B. Rainey- (shivering and teeth chattering) I can’t help what I say coach. My effing tongue is frozen.

    L. Smith- Sigh

  15. Skyline Crew Says:

So Glennon is rated 25th with a Rating of 85.3 and is rated 20th with a QBR of 57.5.

Fun Fact for you. Eagles have the #1 pass blocking O-Line, yet Foles is rated the 28th QB with a rating of 80.7. Imagine if they had a good QB behind that line. They probably want to move up in the draft and take a QB.

  16. Skyline Crew Says:

    *TB is rated 20th

  17. Skyline Crew Says:

^^ignore that. Joe you really need an edit function on this site.

  18. dmatt Says:

    BoJim,
I agree with you 100%…give Mike James the dang on ball more than once!! He will wear a defense down and often he doesn’t go down upon the first or second contact. Our collectively offensive coordinators need to take a snippet from FSU and come out hungry as if they r behind 4th quarter aiming to score and not dink n donk or student body left n right. Take charge n lead means playing through pain, making up for his 3 ints by stripping the ball away, running to make the first down, getting on ur offensive lineman, as in Jame is Winner I mean Jameis Winston. Maybe Michael Johnson can learn a thing or two from Winston.

  19. ddneast Says:

Yes NewTampa, a third string QB beat the Bucs The same one who beat the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. What was your point or do do you just like to be a parrot.

  20. Skyline Crew Says:

    Amen ddneast,

This losing to a third string or a backup QB is BS. A lot of teams do. Doesn’t mean crap. The Bucs lose to everyone except the Steelers. HA
